  1. Here’s my 2 cents. I purchased my new .40 Trojan late last year, having one of the great reputable smiths on this forum install mag well, trigger job & tune Tripp’s 10 mm mags as needed. The darn feed ramp problem began nose diving soon as I received it, fed nine cartridges fine, ten not always. So I tried about everything imaginable as recommended on this forum, except send it back to the smiths, including trying many .45 mags. This summer I eventually sent it to Virgil to rework the ramp with his mags & chrome finish being I spent the money to ship it there. Just got around to test firing my Trojan last month. Wow! It feeds 1.2 oal just like the rest of my other pistols, love it, and runs great. Was this experience cheap, answer is no. Lessons learned; if you’re going to switch to a .40 SS loading long with 10mm mags, you may wish to reconsider having a gun built from scratch from one of the reputable smiths; you will end up there anyway. I always learn the hard way, just like my other weapons. Again, it’s a repeat of my previous experiences. Do I love this pistol, answer is yes; was it worth the final costs at the end, marginal perhaps at the end cost wise. It’s been mentioned many had no problems, but I unfortunately did.
  2. Thanks Vegas! Ordered 2,000 too, I am down to my last 2,000 small. Guess I have been asleep & didnt notice the extra sleeve of primers I had remaining were large pistol. Last month I bought the last 4,000 small rifle remaining at my local shop. Who is going to start the rubber band gun matches?
  3. Was most likely his fathers blaster perhaps and was given too him probably, just a guess. Appears this pistol may spent many hours at Interlake Gun Range in Western Washington, know this because, I recently joined Interlake’s outside range several months ago and checked the membership sign in log, concluding TT spent many, many hours at the range practicing, sometimes twice a day. No, I never met him.
  4. I will sacrifice myself as an example. Decided last year to gather all my 3-gun gear, first with purchasing a Bushy V-Match flat-top for limited, not a bad idea at the time. Well....by adding good rear sights, front JP gas block, adjustable front sight riser with Lyman globe inserts, mag well, comp., decent sling, JP trigger etc. Spent so much time, money & aggravation; one could of almost purchased one of the finest weapons for 3-gun after all this. Its similar to buying a car and trying to add air conditioning to it afterwards, just not worth the costs or trouble perhaps. Yes, this was a great experience, as I learned lots, but it’s the cost of learning sometimes. If you truly wish to save money, buy a Benny Hill AR already built. Recently splurged and bought me a new pre-built limited SV pistol and new Remington CM recently to wrap up the package with air conditioning already installed. Basically I spent this last winter researching and slowly gathering needed gear and guess what? I have never, ever shot a 3-gun match yet, yes this is my first experience as well with 3-gun too. Will be shooting my first 3-gun match in a couple weeks and sure there will be some items added to my wish list. Just listen to what these people are telling you, as I spend my spare time just reading this forum in the evening and just absorbing information, beats watching the boob tube. Last year I watched a 3-gun match and took many digital photographs of everyone’s gear and weapons, asked lots of newbie questions. Most importantly, do it right the first time, we all learn the difficult way sometimes, but we also learn in the process. Best wishes with your decisions.
  5. Tried many over the last year or so, concluding spybot is the best based upon my experiences, as it was highly recommended in a magazine I read few months back. Tried it and believe it’s the best so far. I have two computers at home, one is operated by a teenager, as she can attract every darn pop-up ad in the country I swear. Run spybot about once every week on both computers and you would be surprised how many tracking cookies you will find on your machine. Every time you run spybot, it will continuously block any repeating cookie which was immunized within your machine. Beware not to run adware with spybot. This should link you to: SpyBot
  6. Just remember Quicksdraw.......”When the going gets tough, tough get going” Stay very strong! Know this well, I have sister currently and terminally ill, struggling two years now, somehow she remains positive, over the last two years. Always stay positive and find the good in everything. Prayer’s are with you always brother. Tony
  7. Good point Duane about ejecting rounds from your reloader into buckets, few months ago, it was announced at one of our local matches in the northwest, making sure we all accounted for all live ammunition that may have been ejected or fallen onto the ground during the match because previously, as freak as they may sound; at one previous match somewhere, one shooter’s pistol ejected a spent cartridge landing on the ground obviously and it somehow hit a live round laying on the ground and guess what? Yep, live discharge. Odds of this occurrence, who knows. I wasn’t present during the big surprise, thank god! Never heard much else about this and hopefully not ever again. Just not safe enough at times.
  8. Every novice or beginner person reloading, should check out this web site. Steve Ricciardelli has invested much work on his web site, providing useful compiled data pertaining to ballistics and reloading, including a vast variety of other information. This man has worked hard providing this information on his own time and expense. Lots of information! Check out Steve’s reloading data tables on this web site: http://stevespages.com/page8.htm
  9. Just recently experienced various spring usages several months ago on my recently new .40 SVI limited with heavy front/top end which came from SV with stock 14 lb spring too, experimenting with 10 lb to 14 lb springs, after running approximately 2,000 rounds; concluding 10 - 12 lb springs failed occasionally, experiencing some stove piping because the slide appeared still very tight unfortunately concluding after 3,000 rounds that lapping the slide rails was possibly warranted due to some very minor slide resistance, so the 11 lb variable and lapping slide rails lightly with compound, running longer cartridges with VV N320 powder 180 MG fmj and polishing the extractor recently did the trick. Unfortunately my slide ran very, very tight from the beginning, so I just gave it some assistance, finding the 11 lb performed well after some first aid work. My SV fed the shorter cartridges (1.12 oal) well when new with heavier spring, after several thousand rounds the SV became partial to the longer cartridges with longer 1.17 oal cartridge and lighter springs This runs the Schumann AET bull barrel. I just recently installed the Aftec extractor and love it, although the polish job on the original extractor worked well too. This pistol now has a very nice felt recoil and cycles nicely now, running perfectly. Just need to fine tune the power factor load. I was going to try the heavy recoil master springy thingy but may not now.
  10. Get a EGW die, just as Erik indicated. I bought one several months ago, wishing that I would of done so earlier. Running all your loads through case gauge becomes annoying after time. Dont need case lube either. Tony
