  1. Need some help, I'm trying to get comfortable shooting at 300+ yards for the upcoming MGM Ironman and I'm not seeing a lot of choices in the Seattle area. The closest range looks like Paul Bunyan. Does anyone know of a range closer to Seattle with 300+ yards for high power rifle?
  2. In that case, I'll get in line! Please do let us know if he's interested in working on other slides.
  3. I've got a m&p pro I'm considering doing the same thing. I'm shooting open in 3-gun without an open pistol so I need to decide whether I should buy a used SVI/STI as my first open gun or convert the m&p. I see cost savings sticking with the m&p as I already have mags and an Apex kit in the gun. And it wouldn't bug me to roll around in the dirt with the m&p as 3-gun sometimes requires. However, it might be nice to keep it as a production gun for uspsa. Also, I have no idea what it's like to shoot a pistol with a red dot. Will having the red dot fixed to the slide be a significant detriment compared to one mounted on the frame?
  4. Buy your press from Brian Enos for sure, "as it should be." Gets you started right. I began with a 550. My priority was to load match grade 224 to save money. I was new to reloading and I'm glad I got the 550. As this point I'm getting very accurate rifle rounds though it. Recently I purchased a 650 for loading pistol rounds. Soooo much faster. That being said, I still do my rifle rounds on the 550. Not sure if that's helpful for you. but if I had to do it over I'd do the same thing.
  5. At my range 40 cal brass is super easy to find as the border patrol trains there. Even so, I went with 9mm for production. There's plenty of 9 brass to find, in a shft scenario 9 will be more prevalent IMO, I carry a Kahr pm9 so I have one pistol caliber to reload and I'm about to start looking for a used 9 open gun. It just makes my life simpler for me.
  6. For sure. I've been running an open AR config for two years and love it. If you are sold on shooting open then I don't see any reason to purchase a true 1x scope. Because the red dot is so easy to use there's no reason to put the scope down to 1x. However, open is expensive with all the gear including an open shotgun and pistol. If you're considering shooting scoped tac divison in the future the Burris is a no brainer for low cost. Great way to see if you like shooting open. Or if you have better eyesight than me I'll sell you my Burris XTR-14 with the PERP mount and you'll have the flexibility to go into either division. That was my original plan.
  7. I've ordered the NightForce 2.5-10x32 with the velocity reticle. The bdc calculator on their website used to select a reticle was a big selling point. And I can use this with my NV setup, which is definitely cool. Hopefully it will fit nicely in my existing Warne mount. Thanks for the input.
  8. Agreed on getting it "right" (for your needs) the first time you buy. Optics are my last major purchase in my 3-gun kit. Thanks for the relative rankings, so to speak. Understood, I'll be looking into the Vortex then. I'm already onto my second long range AR optic for 3gun. It'd be nice to be done with this for a long time.
  9. Wow - I'm assuming you're talking about this Burris I'm happy to save some serious money, I'm just surprised this price range of $200. Is there no reason to spend more for what I'm looking to do in the realm of competition? If not, that's great. Your going to save enough money to have a nice mount and red dot as well on the gun. I really like this scope and some of the Bushnell scopes for the money. I'm good on that. The Fastfire II I've been using is sweet and the Warne mount is rock solid.

  11. Thanks Dave. I'll definitely will check that out. The price is super low but if the quality is there that sounds like an excellent option. My eyes cannot be corrected to 20/20, seen the specialists etc, it is what is at 25/20. During Ironman I hit everything that was part of the regular stages, out to 450 yards. But I had to work my eyes to the max. My budget is $1,500 so if the extra money helps me out I'll invest money to better enjoy the sport.
  12. Last weekend I shot the Ephrata match and while I really enjoyed the match, and placed ok as a relatively new shooter, I have become very frustrated with my Burris XTR-14 in relationship to my poor eyesight. I just cant see those targets at 300+ yards well enough to adjust my holdover. I'm shooing open, with a Fastfire at 1 'oclock in a Warne mount. I don't need a Swarovski z6i for the purposes of having a true 1x. And I believe there are some more affordable options for assisting my eyes in seeing downrange. I've got MGM Ironman in two months so I'm really looking forward to finding a solution. I think I’ve narrowed my search down to: Night Force NXS 2.5-10 x32 Vs Leupold Mark IV 2.5-8 x36 I’ve heard some say that Night Force isn’t ideal for multigun applications, I’m not sure why unless it was in reference to not having true 1x (which again doesn’t matter for me). I like the fact that the NF goes to 10x, although that is probably more than necessary. I think 6x or 8x will be plenty for my eyes out to 500 yards, and I don’t plan on engageing anything further out. On the Leupold side, it’s $500 less which is a significant saving. But it doesn’t appear to have a reticle set for 223 BDC, which the NF does. Any thoughts or input here? Am I missing something or another optic all together? Looked at Trijicon and the 40mm objective is too bulky for me. Experienced users’ input is very appreciated!
  13. Hmmm... I think there's confusion here (or I'm just confused). I believe the mount by Jt Engineering and Arredondo are NOT one and the same - two different mounts. Does the Travers need to be removed to get the dust cover off?
  14. Don't suppose you know where I can see a picture of the JT Engineering mount? I already have a upgraded receiver block and would rather not change it out to the Arredondo...
  15. Not DQ's in the safety sense, where I can no longer shoot. On the score sheet they list me as DQ'd. Their vernacular not mine.
  16. Shot my second multigun match this week at the Area 1 match in Parma, ID (The only other multigun match I've shot was MGM Ironman this year). On the first stage the first gun was shotgun. Got off to a great start with 13 rounds in my Saiga (12 round mag and one in the chamber). Had a couple nice guys say they weren't counting (wink and a nod) but in USPSA you can't have more than 10 + 1 in the shotgun, ie don't do it again. Word did end getting to the match director and the verdict is a procedural, right? NO! I'm DQ'd. I can still shoot for "fun". But no official scoring, Now obviously I'm a new multigun shooter so it's not like I'm going to score in the top 10. But really, this sucked. Don't think I'll be going out of my way to travel 10 hours one way for another USPSA multigun match. Too bad there's not a lot of 3 gun in the Pacific NW. Also thought it was odd that only 1 of the 12 stages utilized all 3 guns. Maybe I'm just comparing it unfairly to Ironman but it really wouldn't seem like much more setup to get a third gun involved on a few more stages. Anyway, I guess Open was not Open after all.
  17. Can anyone confirm that site registration for Open div. will be Saturday night (tomorrow) from 6:30pm-9pm at the Roadway Motel in Ontario? The site indicates this process for scoped tac on Wednesday night but does not provide info for the other divisions... thanks!
  18. Do I understand the Limited division correctly that red dots are not allowed on the rifle? Irons only?
  19. Thanks GrumpyOne! Searching for Coke Bottle pulls up a lot of threads. Now that I know what a "Coke Bottle" shape is that is.
  20. I've just started reloading 9mm on my Dillon 550b press. I'm getting rounds through the press but I'm concerned with narrowing of the case that is being caused by stage 1 (which deprimes and reshapes). Here are the numbers for the reloads: .388 Case diameter at head .373 Case diameter at middle of case .378 Case diameter at neck As you can see the case is narrower in the middle. I've only seen factory ammo and it never looks like this. Any thoughts? Is this normal? I've backed out the stage 1 die further out than Dillon's instructions indicate it should be and it's still causing this unusual shaping... I'm using mixed brass and 124 grain Montana Gold CMJ.
  21. How much shorter than 1.75? Let's say 1.65 and 55 grain without a cannelure... I'll give further context, I'm using a Giraud trimmer set at 1.75. Anything that doesn't get trimmed is suspect. There's a lot of mixed brass (not mine) I'd like to use but it's shorter.
  22. I've been trimming cases of .223 (mixed brass from the range) to 1.75 per my reloading manual recommended length. However, a lot of the brass I've collected is shorter than 1.75. I'm mainly reloading using 55gr boat tail, nothing smaller. How to short is too short to reload?
  23. I pulled apart the trigger mechanism, gently pulled the slide release arms outward and lubed the trigger pin. Works fine now. I might have been a little too rough on the trigger pin during the first reassembly. Anyway, now the gun with Apex upgrades (minus trigger spring) functions perfectly.
