  1. I have a Gen 3 G34 that currently has the Zev Tech competition spring kit in it, minus the reduced power striker spring(left the stock one in for reliability with factory ammo). It also has the Zev Tech V4 Race connector. It's primary purpose has been for 3 Gun use, may do some IDPA, and USPSA as well. I just got back from a trip to the Phoenix area and got to visit Glockmeister's store while I was there. I picked up one of their stainless guide rods(captured, but can switch springs) . I ended up getting a 13 and 15# recoil spring for it. Just wanted to make sure my understanding is correct regarding the springs. From what I've read, I should most likely be ok using the 15# spring with the stock striker spring! but if I switch to the 13#, I should probably put in the reduced power striker spring to prevent OOB discharges?

I just got my reloading stuff together and will be reloading for it, but as yet I haven't actually loaded any to work up a load for it. Just wanted to make sure I am understanding the spring thing and what should work in my gun.

  2. 5.2 is a good starting load, any lower and you will run into feed issues. 5.2 is still a little too low to feed reliably in my xdm. I found my ideal load for 124gr with PP was 5.5-5.58gr. I had it written down somewhere, can't seem to locate it right now.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help. Just wanted to make sure I was where I needed to be as far as a safe starting point.

  3. You should consider buying a lee loading book. I own more than one loading book. I suggest going to the alliant site. Look up power pistol recipes. Knock 10% off and work up a couple tenths at a time watching velocity if you have access to a chrono and also watching for over pressure signs. Lee gives coal for tn bullets and prob for power pistol powder. Choose a jacketed rn bullet of the right weight and start at the bottom. Best wishes.

Thanks for the info. I actually have the Lee book. If I remember right, it only showed recipes for Power Pistol with 147gr and 115gr bullets. The Alliant site only has one recipe for a 124gr bullet, a Speer GDHP with 6.4 gr of Power Pistol powder. I did find a recipe in another manual I got to look through for a 124gr TMJ RN showing a starting charge of 5.6gr and max charge of 6.4 of the Power Pistol. Does that sound like a reasonable recipe to try with the Berry's bullet?

  4. Getting started back reloading after a long time away from it and need a little guidance. The components that I have been able to get are Berry's 124 gr RN projectiles, Power Pistol Powder, Winchester SPP, and assorted brass. I have had trouble finding a recipe for that combination of bullet/powder. I will be shooting it out of my Glock 34. From what I've found in a few reloading books for similar bullets is starting at around 5.2gr of the Power Pistol powder. Just curious if anyone has any more specific data for this load, including a recommended COL.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  5. Simply amazing. I can't believe I didn't think about doing that. It worked perfectly. I won't even go into all the other attempts at "melting some substance" into the holes.

It even looks nice and factory. Thanks a bunch for the fantastic idea.

Wow, that is a cool trick. Pretty neat to have the option to go from a colored fiber optic rod to a blacked out one. Actually, kind of surprised now that none of the manufacturers make black fiber optic rods yet as far as I know.

  6. Another fan of fiber optic. I think that for competition, they help you pick up the front sight quicker. For a lot of the shooting sports like IDPA, USPSA, & 3-Gun, you are not really trying to achieve bullseye accuracy, so I think the fiber optic is well suited in those types of competition. If I were doing some sort of bullseye competition, a plain black front might work out better for that.

  7. Used to be a hard-core Glock guy. I tried out the M&P one day, and I was hooked. They have FAR better ergonomics and just shoot better for me. I've since sold off all of my Glocks and replaced them with M&Ps, including my EDC.

I did the exact same thing a couple of years ago, however, I recently picked up another G34. I really like both platforms I've decided. They both have their strong points for me, so I'll keep shooting both platforms for now.

  8. I went to the NRA show and Glock did say they were doing a new run of the 17L's. They did have a display model there to fondle. Wouldn't mind picking up one.

  9. Picked up the shotgun today. Looks great, but haven't had time to shoot it yet. Thanks to legion85 I have a +1 extension for it. Now I need help installing it. I assume that you just screw off the cap that is on it and screw the extension on, but the cap doesn't want to just screw off easily. I don't want to screw it up, so any help would be appreciated.

I used a strap wrench (with the rubber type strap and plastic handle) to remove my factory cap. Came off pretty easy with it. I hadn't been able to remove mine just by hand prior to using the wrench.

  10. I like my Versamax Tactical. I ended up getting C-Rums to weld the lifter and install a rear XS Sight. No issues with slug POI for me. If you get the lifter welded, you will have to break the edge on the extractor cut on the barrel to avoid issues.

    It does shoot very soft.

Before Roulette Tactical went out of business, they were selling the caps for buy one get one free, so I ended up getting a +1 and a +2. I have the +2 on my shotgun, but I could work out something with you for the +1 if you were interested.

I got my caps when they were doing the buy one get one free thing too. Somehow I missed the fact that they were going out of business. That's too bad, they were great to deal with and have great products.

Do you like the XS sight? I've been thinking about doing that too, but have been unsure so far. How does it change the sight picture? Are you still able to see the mid bead too when using it? Did you have to send in the whole gun to C-Rums or just the barrel?

  11. Has anyone installed the tt carrier in the versamax with no other mods? I have heard if you weld the lifter without throating the barrel it can cause feed issues.

Not a tt lifter but I installed a c-rums modded lifter without doing anything to the barrel. Just ran mine this weekend and it was a top.

Jeff does a great job on the lifters. But there are slight variations in the combination of the lifter, hulls, power level, etc. that can result in needing the slight throat of the barrel and the extractor cut radiused. If one load runs, great, but there is a slight chance that another load may not at some point.

Just got my lifter back from Jeff the other day. So much better than the stock evil pitchfork carrier. I did have a few of my dummy rounds that caught up and didn't load right while practicing. Did a little very light sanding to the extractor cut area and so far, no more issues. I still need to get out to the range and get some live fire in to make sure it is good to go.

  12. Good to know. Been wondering about this myself. I also made my matchsaverz type device and so far just used velcro with it practicing at home with no issues. Wanted to play with it a bit and see if I like it before I go drilling holes and putting screws in my new Versamax.

  13. Taran Tactical is selling a lifter that already has all the stuff done. I think they are listed mainly as Benelli M2 carriers, but they advertise that they will fit the Versamax too. Of course I noticed it a few days after I had mailed my stock carrier to C-Rums to be welded/extended. They were even on sale then, just my luck. I actually got mine back from C-Rums today and it is great. No more evil pitch fork carrier for me.

  14. Send it to Crucible Armament and be done. Best shotgun I have ever shot.

Great looking shotgun! Just got my Versamax Tactical that I haven't even had a chance to shoot yet. Added a Roulette Tactical +2 mag cap and have a new lifter on the way from Remington to send to get welded. Was hoping to be able to order one of the new Remington lifters from the versamax competition tactical, but they aren't available to order quite yet. Also might add a rear sight at some point, but will shoot it a bit first and see how it does.

  15. I have used Talon Grip on my M&P and it has been great. I recently experimented on my G34 and got a big sheet of skateboard tape from a local skate shop for less than $10 and made my own. I used blue painters tape on the gun to make my template, then I peeled it off, stuck it on the skateboard tape(remember to stick it to the rough side) and cut out the pattern. It actually turned out pretty good and I have tons left to make more if I need to.
