  1. The surfaces most in need of touching up are all very flat blued, so I guess I'll be okay Birchwood Casey it is!
  2. I was wondering how to best touch up scratches and blemishes on blued guns. There's severall products available with very different results, color mostly. I'm looking for a flat black touch up. Any idea's? Thanks!
  3. Sorry for the late reply, not receiving emails on replies anymore apparently.. @Frank: First match already under the belt (1 day after I picked the gun up!) and she performed perfectly Shooting the qualifier in Leiderdorp on august 28th, maybe I'll see you there. @Tommy: Yep, came from Jürgen. Total delivery time from order date until arrival at Jürgen's was 16 months..
  4. Update: finally got all the issues with my STI resolved. Here's how : Flawless performance since day 1.
  5. Wow, he's still got 95 in backorder? Business is good! That you will I'm shooting Dongen on June 4th and Hoorn on July 9th
  6. And there we go! Mail from the distributor just in, with a picture Now for the paperwork (Europe..) and I'll be picking her up at Jürgen's very soon! Pic: http://members.home.nl/mwille/Wille.JPG
  7. Not really, it's a blued long dustcover Sighttracker with the steel signature grip, AET barrel and xclerator serrations. No special additions.
  8. That's a generous wife you got there! She doesn't happen to have a single sister mh?
  9. There's a mention on the SV site that they cannot respond to questions about delivery times, which I can understand. I'll send you a PM in a minute
  10. Jürgen Flass in Germany. Great guy and I know he can't do anything about the delivery times, that's why I thought I'd check here how they are averaging out at the moment.
  11. And if so, how long did it take to get there? Reason for me asking is that I have been waiting for almost 15 months for my sight tracker now. Just wondering if the general turnaround time on orders has increased..
  12. Will do. I might even have the one mag that was still giving me trouble exchanged for a new one, under warranty. Tested for the extractor hangup as you mentioned, and when feeding really slowly the extractor still "grips" the round so I guess we're good as far as that goes. And don't worry, I respect the 4 rules religiously! I made a set of dummy rounds (spent case & primer, no powder) especially for testing things like this, I never keep live ammo anywhere near the weapon if not at the range. We'll see how the gun keeps performing over the next few weeks. If I'm happy with it after another 2000 rounds or so I'll consider taking it to a match. Thanks for the help everybody!
  13. I'm not entirely shure I know what you mean by that (round is not sliding up under the extractor).. :$ The factory extractor did get replaced by one from Caspian during my second visit to the smith. Here's two closeup views, maybe you will be able to see what you suspect: http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti4.jpg and one with a round on the extractor: http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti5.jpg The recoilspring has been replaced by a heavier one (9 lbs was all they had, all the other don't fit over the recoilmaster) and things are looking up. 250 rounds on friday night and the problem only occurred a few times with only one mag. So where not entirely there yet but almost
  14. You might be on to something, it looks like at least one of the mags has that area way tighter then the others: http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti3.jpg
  15. Yep, giving the slide a good ol bump chambers the round.
  16. I keep her oiled up pretty good, as per the advice I've gotten here. The problem also occurs when hand cycling the gun, as well as when you stick a new mag in with the slide back and disengage the slide stop.
  17. Little update on this. Ever since the smith exchanged the extractor no more problems with spent cases not being extracted. The other problem persists though, the slide is unable to push the next round into the breech (picture in the second post of this topic). Some of the 3 mags I have are worse then others, but they all do it. Popped Arredondo mag springs in which are a bit stronger, no difference. I have another appointment with the smith this friday, speaking to him on the phone he seems very reluctant to give me a heavier spring for my recoil reducer, let alone a standard guiderod with a heavier spring. He feels things should work with the factory spring and intends to work on the ramp some more.. Will make sure I get heavier springs to use if neccesary though, no matter what he says..
  18. I agree completely. Unfortunately if you're in Europe like I am, sending the gun back to STI is not an option. Not just because of the time that would take but our laws won't allow it. I have had an SV on order since januari and kind of intended this STI to be my temp gun, unless I liked it really really well. Looks like the Edge is going out the window the second the SV arrives.
  19. You can say that again.. I've had mine (Edge in 9mm) for 2 month's now and it's still not running. Ramp was polished and the extractor was exchanged on the two visits to the smith after the purchase. Myself I've replaced the magsprings and followers with the ones from Arredondo. Yet still it is impossible to shoot 12 steelplates without at least one feeding error. Back to the smith yet again this week.. As far as I'm concerned STI sell expensive guns that simply don't work out of the box. Unless you're very lucky..
  20. Back from the gunsmith. Extractor completely replaced and adjustments made to the recoilmaster. 30 something test rounds on the small testing range using all 3 mags went without any trouble. Now I have to wait untill friday for some rangetime at the club to do some serious testing Anyways, looks like you guys were pretty much spot on in identifying the cause of the problems, thanks!
  21. Just spoke to the gunsmith, he will sort it out for me tomorrow morning, with me present. Curious to see what he is going to do.. Will let you guys know tomorrow!
  22. That's a spent case that failed to extract. The slide doesn't get locked back with rounds in the mag, the feeding problems started the first day with 5 left in the mag, not pushing the next round into the chamber: http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti.jpeg Shooting this afternoon that same problem also started occurring with more then 5 left in the mags. Reading through the comments I think I can summize that there are two distinct possible problems : recoilreducer spring is doesn't have enough power to push the next round into the chamber and extractor tension is to low to reliably pull the spent cases out. Still makes me wonder how these guns get shipped like this
  23. Almost forgot: the malfunctions are now also occurring when there are over 5 rounds left in the mags.
  24. Sorry guys, for some odd reason I wasn't getting the normal emails on replies so I'm just noticing your tips now.. The mags have spacers, also standard STI. Actually just got back from the range again, this time tested with 4 different kinds of factory ammo and things seem to be going from bad to worse. With Fiocchi 115gr, Magtech 124gr and S&B 115gr the feeding problem persist and the extractor failure just got way worse with all the ammo.. http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti2.jpg It is impossible to get 3 consecutive shots out of the pistol, no matter which of the 3 mags or kind of ammo is used. Just to see what would happen we oiled her up real good, which made no difference what so ever. Some of the other shooters at my club also suggested the spring should be heavier. Maybe so, but still I feel a gun at this price should be running out of the box, at least a bit. I can live with a few malfunctions due to the fact that the pistol isn't run in yet, but not every other shot.. I have already emailed the gunsmith that sold the pistol to me, being in Europe I'm not sure STI itself will be much help..
  25. The attachement doesn't seem to be there in my original post. You can see the image here: http://members.home.nl/mwille/sti.jpeg
