Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Good Point! When I was warned, it was the first time I ever heard of the rule at our club. I did attend the new shooter orientation and all the briefings before each match and it has never been mentioned. The other complicating factor is on the 25 yard range, the berm is pretty close, so takes a good tilt of the muzzle to get over the berm. But move two lanes over to the extended range lane and setup #3, and a 'safe' muzzle angle on lane one could get you up-and-over-the-berm illegal on lane 3 with such a distant berm. I appreciate the input from everyone. Not something to fester on, I just want consistent rules applied across all shooters, from unclassified newbies to GMs.
  2. In a recent match, I received a warning from an RO after the COF that if my muzzle went above parallel with the ground (broke 'horizontal' 180) during my reload, I was to be DQ'd. He claims I was just past it a couple of times on reloads. I have seen a number of muzzles tilt upwards during reloads and have never seen anyone called on it. I have looked through the USPSA rules and fail to see where a high muzzle is a DQ. I am not arguing the fact/point that it is unsafe to point a muzzle in a way that could result in a shot going over the berm (ie ND during reload). No doubt about that. I am working to keep things a little tighter on the mag change. I just see it happening quite a bit on some very experienced and fast shooters. Is there such a thing as a 180 horizontal rule resulting in a DQ? If so, how consistently is it enforced?
  3. My parts list from Glock lists three parts for mag catches. The standard small frame 00287, the large frame 01035 (which can and was used as the extended on the small frames for some time), and what they now list as the extended 1981. I just placed an order today for some spare parts and included a 01981 and 01035 to do a comparison myself. I thought someone else already compared these, but I can't find the thread I thought I saw it in.
  4. Just gettin started

  5. Shot this last night as my first ever classifier. If I recorded things correctly, all As --> Prod 60pts 11.25s 5.3HF. I could have sped it up a bit, but being my first 'counter', I didn't want to blow through it and have hits/misses all over the place. I started on the left (right handed), and went stl, stl, pap, pap on both sides, outside in. I would like to try it stl, pap, stl, pap sometime, to see if things tracked better. I did notice most in our squad went stl, stl, pap, pap, and I noticed a few of those that tried to go stl, pap, stl, pap were pulling shots low for weak hits or outright misses on second stl...I would guess from moving quickly from top paper to lower steel. For my first classifier, I found it interesting and addictive. This is fun stuff...not cheap...but fun.
  6. I am new to USPSA and was reviewing the rule book recently. I stumbled across the rule book section below, then saw the above post. Are 'early' walk throughs legitimate? I see it happens at our club level matches, but is it allowed at regional matches? I could read 8.7.3 to be live fire, but it is under 8.7, which deals with sight pictures and range inspection. 8.7 Sight Pictures and Range Inspection 8.7.3 No person is permitted to enter or move through a course of fire without the prior approval of a Range Officer assigned to that course of fire or the Range Master.
  7. Hi all. I just shot my first USPSA courses this week. Had a blast. I have shot GSSF matches and bowling pin matches, so I am not new to shooting. I wanted to add movement into it and found a local club that runs USPSA setups. A good bunch of guys and gals and a good bit of fun. I am planning on running in production to start and get things tightened up, then see where it takes me. I have already collected a few items to work on from reading the forums, but will likely get more active participation as I get involved in the game.
