I'm considering trading into this gun. I've never seen one quite like it. It's a Colt El Jefe 38 Super slide on a Caspian wide body frame. Comped, fiber optic sites, 5 mags. Any ideas what it's worth?

My dream sight set would be a TFO front with the Trijicon HD rear. I just don't want to pay for two sets of sights for one gun...

I really like my Dan Wesson PM9. I enjoy my Les Baer .45s, maybe I'll get one in 9mm too someday.

Production 1st Mag - Where do you grab it?
TimMTP replied to acpie360's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
My LAMR mag comes out of my back pocket. Then I have 4 more in pouches. -
I'm mainly an M&P guy myself but now have a couple of XDms too. I picked up a 4.5 XDm as a project to see how it matched up with the 4.25 M&P. I put in a drop-in PRP trigger and it's really starting to grow on me. I like it almost as much as the FSS in the M&P. I like the ergonomics of the XDm as well. I only have two complaints on the XDm, 1) is the slightly higher bore. I feel a little more perceived muzzle flip compared to an M&P. 2) is the slide release. I've locked the slide back accidentally a few times with a tight thumbs forward grip. I see that Springer Precision has an aftermarket slide release but I haven't tried it yet. For defensive use, the XDs is my EDC now. Suprisingly low recoil for the cartridge and very accurate.

I picked up a Dremel 4000 series that I really like so far. Wal-Mart had the best price. They beat Lowe's and Home Depot by about $20.

Couple of grip/stipple projects - M&P and Glock
TimMTP replied to TimMTP's topic in General Gunsmithing
Pretty much. Effort and duration vary a little bit depending on the type of material. Suprisingly, the Glock varied a bit from one end of the gun to the other. Of course that could have been the tool acting up a bit too. On the M&P, the backstrap burns faster than the frame. -
Decided to work over some of my guns. Decided to try stippling first. Put some sharkskin on the M&P 9c. I didn't totally wreck that one so I thought I would charge on into the Glock project. Got rid of the hump and added some sharkskin there too. After the pics I remembered to get rid of the square trigger job and enlarge the finger groove while I was there (no good pics of that yet).

I found some of the old info. It started with an article in Front Sight. I believe the initial mistake came with wording for Limited not Production. Here's a thread that discussed it a bit. Old link
-
I think this might have gotten started from some poor wording in the initial cut at rules changes for next year. It was quickly rectified. I think there's some threads on this forum that discussed it, I just haven't looked for them yet.

You sure about the EMP? Last I saw they only made it in 9mm and .40 S&W. Did they release a new version?

As long as you aren't shooting Production, try the FSS. Pull will still be in the 4.5 range but I think you can change it either direction with springs if you wish. I've got 2, one's at 3.5, the other at 4.5. Really close to my Burwell trigger.
-
Should be able to. I practice it a fair amount and my index finger hits it nicely. Of course at the range that gun will be utilized its not completely a necessity.

I think it's PowerPoint slides, not a video. Burwell trigger job link

Well, the cousins are gone now. Being replaced with Shields. The PPS was the closest thing to the Shield I could find at the time. Got the 9, almost picked up the 40 yesterday. Since I doubt we'll ever see a .380 M&P, I figure the Bodyguard is about as close as I'll get there too.
-
M&Ps are all I carry. Compete ith some of them too. Collection below (minus the new Shield). Never had a striker problem in any of them.

I use the brass ESP SSS magwell on mine.

I actually ended up going the other way. I tried the lighter springs while building up some light loads for my 9L and 9 Pro. Didn't have much success in the accuracy department. I was suspect that I was having the early unlocking problem with the factory barrels. I remembered reading something by Burwell about a really stiff spring may help keep the barrel in battery a little longer. So, I tried heavier springs with factory ammo. I ended up with a 17lb spring running factory Federal 115gn loads. Accuracy improved. I've since installed a KKM barrel with the same spring and load and accuracy is much better. I haven't tried light loads with light springs with the new barrel yet. I'm happy with the way they are performing now so I think I'll leave well enough alone.

Also, Apex will modify your current housing for you for about the same price as a new housing.

I got mine from Speed Shooters Specialties. Same here

Just put KKMs in both my 9 and 40. Much better results for me too.

I just picked up a PM9 to get started in SS. Got a .45 on hand in case point deficit outweighs the extra two rounds.
-
Yep. Good to see you on the boards. You coming out to shoot with us next month? We're practically in your back yard now.

Picked up a new SP-01 last week. Fired a few rounds to see what it felt like out of the box. Sent it off to CGW yesterday for a makeover. Can't wait to see what David can turn it into...
