  1. Thanks Paul... What's acc-u-rail?

Loves2shoot, I'm a mech engineer.. so I always worry about things that don't fit right :D even when it ain't broke, we tend to try fix it when it starts wobbling about even a little bit....

I'll leave it alone until I can feel the whole barrel/slide/frame assembly move abit more.

Let me see where I can get this accu-rail :D

    Regards and Thanks lots

  2. Hi Flex.. Thanks for the link. I'll try some of the loads...

Didn't get to chrono it yet... I loaded some 50 rds, took it to the range to see how it felt.. and BAM! SHAKE! BAM! SHAKE BAM! SHAKE... :D And I couldn't hit anything with it (",) as in groups the size of a 10" plate

So switched back to 3n38.. that got me down to 1" at 25 yds again. Same head, 124gr... I need to work this load out some more. It loud and I get more felt recoil.. Let you know what Load I finally end up with..

    Thanks Again :D

  3. Hoping that I could get some recommendations from the gunsmiths here. I was just wondering what would be the best way forward. My 38S open gun slide to frame fit has now become a little loose. Nothing like a production gun....

Although when the frame, slide, barrel are assembled, there seems to be no play at all....

I did notice that if I use slide guide on the rails, the play is significantly reduced to become almost unnoticeable :D (This is w/o the barrel)

I'm just wondering whether I should get the slide-frame fit fixed immediately even though there seems to be no apparent loss on accuracy. What would be the best way to remove the slide-frame play?

Thanks in Adavance to all and Regards,

  4. :D I am learning the truth of the "Shoot A's as fast as you can" the hard way....

when I looked back at my match performance, my best finish was when the gun was new and I was very careful of the dot while I was shooting the match... after that.. and don't ask me why... :D I sort of delved into the dark side and went as fast as I could .. but didn't consciously track dot/sight pictures.. he he..

  5. I got a couple

    - bringing a half loaded magazine(back-up) to a stage and using it :D I was supposed to use the other one... now i only bring full mags to a stage to make sure...

    - not blocking/counting the number of targets before shooting a stage. Easy FTE penalty here. this was just last weekend.. grrrrr cost me at least 5 places in the final order of things...

    - moving out of a start position... sometimes i get to that point when i'm not even sure which foot to move first

    - and the classic one....

    MATCH PRESSURE

  6. Tried the timing drills.. i'll stick with a medium grip.

While speeding up the shots, notice that if I keep splits at about .2 to .18 secs, I can keep the hits in the A box... anything faster will more likely result in a A/C double. I also noticed my flinch was back so got to work that off again....

    Thanks for all the advice...

  7. Also, I have stages that never seem to recall seeing, indexing and shooting the targets. I just shoot. But the hits were pretty good and these are normally my best stages... (nothing like a Matt Burkett or anything)... Do you guys always remember acquiring the targets/sights/firing in all the stages?

    Rgds..

  8. One of funny things I noticed was that my splits were in the .13 - .15 secs on bill drills. Not great for A hits :D definitely not seeing enough... even on lev 2 and 1 match stages which were long course/hose n pray style... splits were .13-.15. With close in targets up to 5 meters, I could index well on them and end up with most A hits.. but on ranged targets from 10 meters above... A then C hits were more common. the double was normally a C.

The guys at my club say I need to work on accuracy... and to slow down. I'm one of the fastest shooters in the the club... but definitely not the most accurate :P

I have to find a balance.. but I love shooting fast!

Thanks all... great advice and great forum!

    Rgds,

  9. Was looking to put together a new open gun and kinda like the idea of going to the shorty versions. My current blaster is 6", bull barrel, comp and is relatively heavy.. but very reliable.

I know it uses a shortened 5" Govenment Slide, a Cone Compensator... but then

what type barrel and length is used? I like the Schuemann barrels and was gonna use one of these.

Could you guys let me know... TiA,

    Regards,

  10. Experimented again over the weekend with the club and some other open shooters.....

Flex was right.. it is my grip and I'm pushing the gun to the left most of the time. I'm gonna go back to group shooting for a bit to get it right as well as bill drills. My bill drills are not consistent with shots splattered all over the A/C area. I'm going to slow it down and see if I can track the dot better such that groupings are smaller before speeding it up. I'm not seeing enough.

Thanks for the all advice again.... its a great thing when you have forums... lots of help available and it really is appreciated :D

    Regards

  11. Thanks Guys...

I've had two others test the gun already, and they say that it does push left... I'll have some of the others try it out... its certainly an interesting problem for me here...

i'll look at my grip again if it is neutral. but if in slow fire mode, for group/zeroing shots only, I can erase a patch at 25 yds (gun zero).... but each time, the gun is steered to the left... I actually thought it was my trigger stroke and I was pushing the gun to the left....

let me try experimenting again with your added inputs... thanks lots :D

    Rgds,

  12. Hi to all.. just wanted to ask around on open guns and recoil.

My open gun pushes to the left after each shot. I guess it became more noticeable while I was changing/adapting my grip from a firm to a light, neutral grip...

What has happened now is that I shoot with a light, neutral grip freestyle and I've noticed the second shot on doubles is to the left. Is this a compensator problem?

I've experimented a bit to see how its affected by grip and the results were much the same...

Tight/Firm Grip - dot moves more or less vertically with shots relatively straight or a little to the right. I can manage the hits/recoil more consistently in the A box (w/ the occassional C) using this grip. However, speed is definitely affected...

Light, Neutral grip - groupings are more haphazard on doubles with the second shot consistently to the left. More C/D hits and more dot movement to the left.

Strong Hand (right) - dot/gun pushes to the left every time. not so much torque 1/32" barrel. In fact, I notice the push more than the torque and you spend most of the time getting the dot back to the right after each shot.

Was hoping if I could get your opinions on this problem. Just wondering if I should just change the comp out right rather than trying to add another port to steer the gun more to the right. Appreciate all opinions.. Thanks in advance.

    REgards,

  13. Hi to all... happy weekend...

I went to the range and tried shooting the back out of the berm with my 9mm.... :D I can now see the sights tracking again... although its not always there.... but 70% of the time, I can track it... appears I was flinching again (somehow, that things keeps creeping back.. I thought I'd gotten it the last time  )

so mixed up the blanks and the live rounds and did that exercise to get rid of the flinch again and stop blinking...

then switched baack to the Super 38... and I can see the dot going up and down and up and down.. this time with bill drills... 2.01 best time, all A's :P Fantastic!!!! I could hit 1.8's- 1.9's but the shots were all over the place (A & C hits)... more practice...

then i noticed something peculiar... when I'm going for fast hits, i'm pushing the gun to the left... and naturally, the shots were all to the left as well... so went home, did some dry fire and experimented with trigger finger placement (tip, pad, first joint)... and guess what... no matter where I put the damn finger on the trigger, I nudge it to the left every time! @#!&^*$]

Is this more a technique thing or should I look at how I can modify the gun to suit my hand better? I've got little hands and I think the palm pad corresponding to the trigger finger is pushing the grip left everytime...

So just wondering and wanted to see if anyone could put some ideas on solutions... Should I lengthen/shorten the trigger?

    Thanks Again...

  14. Thanks, lots of good info there. I'll try the berm exercise and report back on it after I'm done. Really appreciate the inputs...

I currently shot a super 38, open gun in IPSC type competition and although the misses/stage are not the norm... they do occur. Also, I've never been able to "confidently" say that I called a shot.. but sometimes... I know when I missed one. As for the hits, as a norm, the hits would be a A then a C hit on IPSC metric Targets... w/c is not all that great.

I wanted to see if going back to basics would improve my stage performance.. w/o unduly sacrificing time so went back to the 9mm to do some of the exercises mentioned here.... Hopefully, if I can get to a point where I can confidently call a shot and track the FS continuosly... it will remove some of the target doubts and poor hits...

Thanks again and let you all know how it goes...

  15. Newbie and was wondering... and apologies if this seems like a thread hijack, but on FS tracking do you actually... really see every movement of the front sight as it tracks up from the rear notch... or do you just visually acquire it again when its about 1-2" above the rear notch?

reason i ask is I've never seen the FS lift out of its notch, but I catch it when its about 2" above the RS and about 45 degrees to the right and coming down ... I'm just wondering if I'm missing something and if I should be seeing every moment of it lifting, tracking and returning... we're talking 5-6/100 (FS movement) of a second visual input here right?

    Thanks

  16. Hi to All,

hoping for some help. I'm new to open guns (2 months or so) and my open currently has a c-more dot that is probably about 12 or 16 moa. The dot is big so I ordered the 8 moa dot module to replace it.

The 8 MOA dot arrived, but C-more forgot to include the instructions on how to replace the dot module. Could someone describe how to replace the dot module? Would really appreciate it. Thanks.

    Regards,
