Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Been a while since I've been on here, need to be here and at the range more.

  2. Like DWFan I haven't shot the Bullet Hole matches because of when they are. Can't really get away from responsibilities. All the rest are great and yep...the forums are full of many folks from the KC area. I won't be back out and shooting matches until the weather warms up personally and I get my reloading stuff done. Trying to load enough ammo for all of next year which is taking a while.
  3. What part of Kansas are you in? Capital City Practical shooters and Mill Creek are two of the best places to shoot that I've been to so far on the Kansas side. We all look forward to seeing you out at the range. Sounds like you'll be shooting single stack which should be fun and maybe I'll join you in that division at some point but I'm still loving Limited. Welcome.
  4. Wonder if this is the reason there's been so many 3rd Gen 35's for sale recently. Could be good for those of us on a budget, snatching up the 3rd Gens.
  5. I agree, I currently use a Dawson ICE magwell and dawson base pads. No issues with fitment whatsoever. I really like both personally. I haven't tried the others though I've kicked the idea around. Just like Dawson products.
  6. As has already been said...grip angle isn't important truly unless it's for something specific other than firearms choice really. I was a dedicated 1911 shooter until I picked up the Glock and forced myself to shoot it only focusing on the basics of trigger pull. After that, I found I actually shot the thing really well and have been a fan ever since. The even BETTER thing is...since I forced myself into that mindset...it's actually made me a better all around shooter.
  7. Glad to see another new shooter. This was my first year shooting competition in the KC area and I've shot Mill Creek, Pioneer and Higginsville as regularly as I can though it all depends on funds and time as a Dad. I plan on shooting at the Bullet Hole once the weather cools down and I can't get outside to do it. I'm just south of the KC area. I was even so hooked on the sport that I shot at Area 3 in Grand Island Nebraska this year. Basically, with just a little travel you can shoot every weekend and like you...I hadn't met anyone else that shot competition until I actually went to one. It's a blast and the people at the matches are great. They are helpful and willing to answer any questions. I really don't think you could hope for better people. Be prepared to have a h@ll of a lot of fun.
  8. I agree...and I apologize. I usually don't get involved and I should have stayed out of this.
  9. Oh, I want to apologize for hijacking the thread.
  10. The word "better" is in quotation marks...denoting that it's about better as a perceived thing rather than truly factual. You can mod any gun to make it better for you personally in any Division within the rules. Basically, some guys think a huge oversized mag release is "better" and some don't since they may have larger hands causing the mag to be released at odd times they didn't intend. Just like the fact that some guys like certain triggers in Glocks and some guys like others (or stock in my case). Some guys like Production and some like Open Division. Neither is "better" than the other. They are just different.
  11. They are only talking about modifying them to the extent that you can in Limited and Open and not the internal mods and such that you can do with Production. Basically that if you want to tinker with LOTS of mods (externally)...then Production isn't really the division to do it, since it's against the USPSA rules. They aren't saying Production isn't a fine and fun division. Basically, nobody is bashing Divisions...at least the way I read it Though I will say...WELCOME TO USPSA AND COMPETITIVE SHOOTING...to the future competitor asking questions. You'll have a blast and people here really will help you and are willing to answer questions honestly if not with a little "tongue in cheek" humor at times.
  12. The Limited barrel is barely less than 5", and the TS barrel isn't much longer than 5". (125mm/~4.92" versus 130mm/~5.12". The difference is about 3/16".) The weights would be pretty close with the same configuration; Tanfoglio doesn't appear to make a standard full-length-dustcover Limited any more; you can either get a short-dustcover Limited or a Limited Custom, which has a full-length-dustcover but also sports a lightened slide with a different barrel. The result is that either Tanfo is spec'ed at 1200g (2.64lb) while the TS is listed at 1270g (2.80lb). (FWIW, my personal TS weighs in at 3.125lb with an empty magazine.) If you're after a lighter solution and can accept a shorter barrel, the choice would probably be a Tanfoglio Stock II; it starts out a little lighter than a Tanfo Limited, and it would slim down more if you cut back the dustcover and/or lighten the slide a little. Convert it to SAO and slap a Henning magwell on it and you'd be GTG. Now, I don't actually own one but the CZ-Custom website lists the CZ TS as having a 5.4 inch barrel and weigh 2.8lbs and the EAA sight lists the Witness Elite Limited with a 4.75 inch barrel and weighing 39 ounces (roughly 2.7lbs). Not sure how that works since there seems to only be a single ounce difference in weight but .65 inches of extra barrel and dustcover. Though, the EAA Limited does come with a mag well and such. Either way, it all really comes down to feel and comfort for each individual shooter. I'm sure both are great guns and would be good choices. Though I'd have a CTS conversion done to a TS to save weight and such...plus they look REALLY good that way.
  13. Well, I live in the KC area where CZ-USA is located and shoot regularly with many of the guys from CZ so I know the factory support is there and they are great to work with. EAA is a bit of a pain to work with but Henning is great to work with and there are several guys running Tanfo's here as well. Basically either gun works great and has limited support with really only the CZ-Custom shop with Angus and Hennings shop for parts for the respective guns. You won't be disappointed in either one. I have been considering a CZ style gun for both divisions myself so I've had the same questions. In Limited the Tanfo Limited looks great and the new flat trigger from Henning would be nice and it's around the $1000 mark and ready to go...but...the barrel is less than 5 inches. The CZ TS has a longer barrel at nearly 6 inches but is really heavy. Though, I have been shooting with a guy who has a CZ TS that's been totally reworked by Angus and given the CTS treatment and seems to be REALLY nice. The dustcover has been cut back with new sights, magwell, custom grips and a really nice all black finish. I'm digging it a lot but it's around $2000 (with all the CTS upgrades). Probably a little steep on my budget. For Open...it will probably be the Tanfo Gold Team since it's only around $1500 and I only need an Open gun for 3-gun matches next year since my Saiga forces me into Open anyway. But, I do LOVE my Glock 35 in Limited AND my Glock 34 in Production. Nothing wrong with Tactical Tupperware...it's inexpensive and performs fantastic.
  14. I do notice that you're absorbing a lot of the recoil with your body causing your head and body to rock with the recoil. Your elbows seem to be rigid and locked. Possibly try not locking your elbows. Also, you seem to be shooting the gun with the wrong hand, probably since the holster is on the wrong side Just kidding of course.
  15. I figured they would probably be too long. Guess I'll skip them for now but interesting none the less.
