Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I took the gun out again today. The guy on the ECN was right. I slowed down on the trigger and I fired 50 rounds of Federal low base loads without one malfunction.
  2. ECN has it right. The gun is cycling and the trigger is dead. I will be testing it again tomorrow with 00 buck and Federal low base birdshot. I was firing fast when the malfunctions happened. The gun is very clean and it is a standard straight stock. Everything is lubed and the cam pin is okay.
  3. Ecn, I am convinced you are right. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply!!!!!! Would you say the solution is just to run hotter loads? Would I run this risk with 00 buckshot?
  4. That is an interesting theory I had not considered. However, if I were outrunning the gun, I would expect to get a “click” with no shot. I do not think that happened.
  5. Hello. I have a Benelli M2 with a 21" barrel and a Nordic +5 extension. I took it to the range last week to run drills and practice with Federal 7.5 low base birdshot. I had multiple failures where the action cycled and it loaded the next round, however the bolt did not move far enough back to cock the gun. The gun was clean and lubed properly. So, I cleaned it again. I really went after cleaning the barrel chamber thoroughly. And, I flushed out the recoil spring tube with gun scrubber. I lubed the trigger assembly and bolt in the right areas. Nothing looks broken. The gun has about 500 rounds through it. I have not experienced this problem before. I am taking it to the range Saturday. My test: 1. 25 rounds of F127 9 pellet 00 buckshot. 2. 25 rounds of Federal low base 7.5 birdshot My Question - if the guns runs 100% with buckshot, but fails occasionally with the lower powered birdshot, would you trust it for home defense? I hate to give up on it. But, I don't like unreliable guns. What do you think? P.S. I shoot the same Federal 7.5 birdshot all the time at skeet, trap, and clays in my other 28" hunting M2s. I have never had this happen once in my other M2s.
  6. I have two of these brand new (not in box) for sale. $75 each. Please email me at dave@on-trak.com
  7. I have two. I cleaned them very thoroughly when I brought them home. Neither one has ever had a malfunction from day one.
  8. I wanted to buy some spart parts for my new FN SLP Mark I. Specifically, the plastic follower and magazine spring retainer. Does anyone know where to find them?
  9. I just cycled some loaded shells in the gun. It launches them 5 feet away. I emptied the shot from a bird load. Just the plastic cup and powder was in the shell. It sent the semi empty shell about 3 feet away. Fired shells don't do as well. They vary. They go 1 foot away sometimes. Other times they only go an inch away.
  10. I have a new 870. There is no sticking of the shell in the chamber after I fire it. However, the ejection strikes me as pretty weak. For the most part, the shells just dribble out when I VIOLENTLY VIOLENTLY work the action. Mine does this with low base, high base shells, buck, and slugs. Is this normal for the 870? I looked on youtube at videos of other peoples 870s. And, they were pretty much the same. The shells dribble out 1-3 inches from the receiver. Every once in a while, one shell will be ejected forceably.
  11. The manual says that my gun should have included a cylinder choke (no notches) and an improved cylinder choke (4 notches). I received: 1. 3 notch choke that says lead shot Modified / steel shot Full 2. 4 notch choke that says lead shot improved cylinder / steel shot Modified What did your gun come with? Slugs - is it okay to shoot a 2 3/4" lead rifled slug through the choke with 4 notches? I am a bit concerned that the 4 notch choke says "modified". I don't want to damage the gun. Thanks.
  12. I thought the FN SLPs were reliable guns? Anyone else?
  13. Thanks. I realize now that I was wrong. The heavy piston is for loads over 1.5 oz. I can shoot birdshot and F127 with the same light piston. So, it is a non problem.
  14. I'll answer my own question and make a comment. I have read that it is recommended to change the piston when going from birdshot to heavy buckshot. Shooting buckshot with the wrong piston will wear the gun. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE DESIGN FLAW. What do you do if you are going to take a class that uses both birdshot and buckshot for training purposes? It seems silly to have a gun that needs a timeout just because the load is changed. Most importantly, you will shoot the gun mostly with birdshot and the light piston. Do you 100% trust the gun to reliably function with the heavy piston and buckshot if you want to use the gun for home defense? Most people can not afford to shoot a gun too much with buckshot at nearly $1 per round.
