Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I am currently shooting a G22 and am looking for a replacement set of sights. I want the sights to be USPSA legal so that limits some of the options I think. I have seen the threads of what is and is not legal for USPSA and am left with more questions than answers. So to improve my sighting ability in some of the local matches in PHX I would like those who have different sights on their glocks and who have tried several kinds to rank them in order of prefernece. I think I want a rear adjustable because I dont like the way my current sights work. The bullet hits where the huge white glock factory dot is and I prefer that it hit at or near the top of the front sight so I think I would use an adjustable to get me there. Any comments and preferences as far as sighting system for Glocks go? AZJeeper
  2. Thanks for all of the input gents! What I was attempting to do was to gain an understanding of the behavior of the powder using the titegroup data as the ceiling and definately not a starting point. What I am interested in is the behavior of the powder at charge weights about 5-10% lower that any max listed. I am shooting a glock 22 with stock barrel so I will not load max and usually stay to about 4% below max weights. I am currently loading some 180 berry's and will chrono the data to see if I am anywhere near major PF. In reducing the change weight my question is how does the behavior of the powder change. Does the same pressure spike occur? and if so is it later or earlier than with a max charge weight? Just interested, I am not sure how I would ever use the data, I am still a youngin in the shooting game, and I guess I have more questions than answers.
  3. I recently took the data for 40SW of the hodgen website for titegroup powders. They only list 3 bullet weights 135 180 and 200. I took this data and graphed it in excell and then fit a trendline to the three data points and developed an equation using the data. The equation could then "calculate" the max charge weight for any bullet weight. My question is, is this a legitimate thing to do? I did not assume the data was linear however with only 3 data points it may have been. I used a second order polynomial. So is this OK to do?
  4. Flex you are Brilliant! I was not aware of this option and looking at the website for Fobus I found what you were talking about. I am going to look for it locally here in Phoenix and should be able to find this part if not I can just order it online. Thanks for the help. AZJeeper
  5. I just recently bought 3 single glock mag pouches and already have a Fobus paddle holster (adjustable rake) for my G22. I went out this past weekend to try this setup out. I also bought a nylon 1.5" instructors belt. First I notcied that the belt is too thick for the paddle Fobus holster and it is turning the gun into my waist. Also the Glock mag pouches sit straight up and down and for production IPSC it makes getting to the mags a little awkward, but I believe the rules state behind the hip. I want to know what other people with Glocks are setting up with for IPSC. Particularly the holster, the mag pouches I can live with, but the holster is a problem. I had thought of cutting the paddle portion off of the holster, but I dont even know if that is legal. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking to shoot my first USPSA/IPSC match at Rio in Phx Aug 12 (tues steel) and just want to make sure that I have the basic equipment at least and its safe. AZJeeper
  6. flexmoney, your are absolutely right! I was only searching the last 30 days and since expanding the search have found quite a bit of information. What about the intangibles like recoil feel, how the gun behaves etc. I would like to know more about the "feel" of titegroup vs. the mechanics of the reloading. From what I understand most shooters in IDPA and USPSA matches are reloading with VV or titegroup. Is that also accurate?
  7. I did a search on titegroup powders and did not come up with much. I am trying to find out just how titegroup powder works. I have been reloading with power pistol just because the overall pressure spike the powder produces is low and we all know about the problems reloading for a chamber that is not fully supported. The results for the power pistol were pretty good, but I would like to try out titegroup based on the advise of a friend. I want to know peoples expieriences using titegroup in glock factory barrels (I'm using a g22). The information I found so far included that titegroup was dirty? compared to Uni clays. Also is anyone loading to a pf165 or greater using titegroup and a factory glock barrel? How badly are the cases bulged? Any signs of extreme case stress? anyone loading cases multiple times if so how many times about. Any info suggestions would be appreciated. Paul I am using once fired brass (mixed), wsp primers, 1.125 coal, and rainier 180 RNFP.
  8. I wanted to find out what powders people are loading with that are shooting glocks with factory barrels. I am currently loading with power pistol and have had excellent results in the stock barrel with little or no case bulge. Granted I am loading 7-10% below max. I am going to give titegroup a try based on the advise of a friend of mine and I just wanted to get input from all of you about what your expieriences are with different powders and glock barrels and the inherent difference in a glock barrel vs. others. Paul
  9. Flexmoney, your load for titegroup powder and the 180 g bullet, is that out of a Glock barrel or an aftermarket. I had a chance to talk to a friend recently who is also thinking of switching to titegroup from VV. I am still shooting out of a Glock factroy barrel and just wanted to know if the load you placed on this thread was in a Glock barrel or not. I am going to get a pound of titegroup and try it out (work my way up). It is one of the faster powders out there, I have been using power pistol for that exact reason it is slower and also keeps the pressures down. Paul
  10. Well I purchased your book online today Brian and plan on reading it cover to cover several times. I also read your post link. I tried the link to the 60/40 grip but it did not work. What is the 60/40 grip theory. Paul
  11. Actually I have just recently in the last year started to get into shooting more. A friend of mine started me into it and I have progressively gotten into it more and more. This friend also helped me out with your competitve reloading tape and Todd Jarret's tape on competitive shooting. He also got me a great deal on an RCBS rock chucker press (I have already told my wife I NEEEEEEEEEEED a Dillon soon). So bottom line is the interest in competitve shooting is fairly new. I have shot in a few matches with a local honeywell (in Phoenix) team, but I really need to overcome my fear of the unknown and show up at a "real" match. I am a member of Rio Salado range in Phoenix, and I should probably go to the Tuesday night match and at least watch the first time and then try it out. Paul PS I will be getting your book ASAP
  12. I have recently started to develop a nasty habit of pushing my shots from my G22 just before firing. I have a tendancy to push the barrel downward a little in anticipation of the shot going off. I would like to know if there are some drills or other methods to correct this problem? Paul
  13. I really appreciate the help gents. I can get a chrono from a friend and check out the bullet speed. I am also going to go back and investigate the 180 grain bullet again. I have one final question on this topic and that is about pushing the gun just prior to the round going off. I noticed when I last shot that I am developing a nasty habit of compesating for the muzzle climb by pushing the gun downward ever so slightly. Is there a drill or something I can practice to address this or do I just continue to practice and concentrate on having the gun "surprise" me when it fires? Paul Again thanks for all the help.
  14. OK it sounds like I was going in the wrong direction. I am currently reading over the ipsc rules and putting a ported barrel into my G22 not only eliminates me from ipsc competition but also idpa. That being said how do I establish the accuracy of my present barrel and the loads I am using. I know all about the postings on not loading for Glock, but done properly I have no concerns. I was out in the desert this past weekend with a course I made up and then shot repeatedly, but my accuracy seemed way off. My questions are, how do I establish the accuracy of my present G22? From a bench and rest I would assume? I should add that I bought the pistol used and am not sure how many rounds have been through the chamber. Next any comments on the loads I am using. I just shot (this past weekend): Brass assorted 6.3 grains power pistol 155 rainer WSP primers 1.125 COAL I am basically loading to about 8-10% below the max listed on Alliant's web site. anybody else shooting with this combination? The loads do seem a little light and I may move up to about 5% off of the listed load on alliants web site. Paul
  15. Well I have a friend that is shooting ipsc right now in Houston and all the matches I have seen video from him on look really cool. The courses look different and challenging. So for now I would have to say that I would be interested in ipsc style matches. Paul
