  1. We have a DSL line at work (small business). Everytime I am on the internet, I wind up getting that Microsoft error message--that one that asks whether you want to send Microsoft a message. I hit "do not send" and the internet shuts down. More specifically, I can get on the internet and use Yahoo as my home page. I then navigate to a site. If, for example, I log in to my web-based e-mail, I can open an e-mail, but then get that error message when I want to return to the inbox. This problem also occurs if I, say, look at some pictures on the first page of a website gallery; I look at the pics on the first page and then get the error message when I click to go to another page. Any suggestions?
  2. Moverfive, A computer salesman told me that in June Cingular is coming out with a new type of PC card, which, as I understand it, will be something different than the typical Type II card. I'm thus wondering whether that equates to an upgrade in speed. Any ideas?
  3. Seems like the limited (10mb, 20mb, 30mb, etc.) plans are too small. I guess I'll have to go with the unlimited plan to be pocketbook safe, though that tracking option looks good.
  4. I am looking at getting a Cingular Wireless PC card for my laptop to get internet access when traveling and not in a hot spot. Their unlimited access plan is $60 per month with a two year contract. They have limited plans--10mb of data access per month for $30.00 per month, for example. The question is--how much web browsing and e-mail checking can I do before I reach my monthly limit? Since the limit is not based on minutes like the phone, I am lost in terms of being able to gauge my usage.
  5. Erik, Frank Roderus, whose website is mentioned above, used a Grizzly mini mill to put cocking serrations in a slide (on his Sistema project), to cut a front dovetail sight (also on the Sistema project) and to port a slide (the Commander project). He sells a CD for about $22 that contains a detailed description with pictures of the steps he took on both projects. Well worth the $$$ for anyone considering using a mini mill to work on 1911s.

    Hurricane Charlie

It's a category 4 now. Crap. Many people are going to live through Hell for a few hours. Hurricane Andrew was a 4 and I will say, unequivocally, I never want to experience that again. Here in Miami we watched it pass by, and I'm real concerned the folk up in the central part of the state do not know what they're in for. I think I should move to Arizona.
  7. Are there any real differences in quality between these tool brands (looking to pick up a cordless drill, hand grinder, and a reciprocating saw). Did I just open the tool equivalent to the STI vs. SVI debate?
  8. Thanks for the ideas. I was able to download spybot and got rid of a ton of files. Overall the computer seemed to work better, but I still have the freezing problem. I tried to download Adaware a couple of times, but the machine froze trying to get there. Would it be worth it to upgrade to XP?
  9. Running Windows Millenium with IE and using Bellsouth DSL to connect to the internet. No problems connecting, and no problems browsing this and other websites, but the computer ultimately freezes when I try to access various of my favorite websites. I called Bellsouth and they could find nothing wrong with my settings. Also, I put disks (including an antivirus disc) in the DVD and CD drives and am not able to run them. Finally, FWIW, I cannot use start-shutdown to shutdown the computer. It simply will not shut it down (winds up freezing instead). I usually do not care about shutting it down, but thought this might give more insight into the problem. I was originally running Windows 98, which came installed on the machine. The hard drive crashed and I replaced it. During the reinstall, I could not find Win 98 disks, and that is why I got the computer back up and running with Win Millenium.
  10. Do not let a general dentist remove lower wisdom teeth, especially impacted ones. Have an oral surgeon do it. And, no, I'm not an oral surgeon.
  11. GTO, the only thing worse than Pete wrestling with his reloader would be Pete wrestling with the traffic to get on the Cape to go shooting.
  12. In light of the wiring found in a residential garage, obviously there are limitations on the machines you could use at home. What would be the common power input specs on a machine for use at home? For example, any machine requiring 3 phase is out. Something drawing much higher than 30 amps would seem to be a problem, too. Am I missing something here?
  13. If so, what type of welding do you do? What equipment do you use? What kind of stuff have you made or repaired?
  14. Shooter Grrl, do you handle the registration of the domain name, setting up the hosting, etc. I may have to steer my club in your direction.
  15. I use the CED bag for everyday run-to-the-range-after-work use. I have the Shooter's Connection bag for the 2-3 day matches I have yet to attend.
  16. How could Moore be the world's biggest butthole when OJ is still around? Can the poll be changed to add a tie between OJ and Moore?
  17. Summer of 1981, my parents had an extension put on the house. Complete on the outside, nothing but 2x4s and a subfloor on the inside. Plan was for my father to do all of the interior work. Well, every night after dinner, we hung freakin' drywall while my friends played out in the street. Two bedrooms--walls, ceilings, and closets--a hallway, a bathroom, three additional closets, and the walls around a staircase. So, yeah, I've got issues with drywall.
  18. These nearly real-time reports are awesome. Thanks Dave!!!
  19. TDean, pay closer attention if your system is being hard wired, as opposed to them using remote sensors. The former will require much drilling and caulking/gluing the wires in place, which can be sloppy looking when done.
  20. FWIW, as a newbie shooter, I'm experiencing exactly what dirtypool and tightloop are talking about--waiting to draw until the end of the beep. Time and time again, at a recent training session, my instructor pointed that out to me, and I was able to see how he was drawing the instant the beep went off. Fascinating stuff, really.

    Hoover Dam

I didn't have time on this trip to do the Hoover tour tiself. I absolutely will do that next time around.

    Hoover Dam

Just back from Las Vegas. Made a brief stop at the Hoover Dam on the way to the Grand Canyon. What a great example of man's accomplishments.
  23. I was told recently that, all other things being equal, a hard chromed slide will crack near the ejection port before one that is not hard chromed. YMMV.
