Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have a Witness match in 40s&W I ordered a MG61-40 MEC-GAR Tanfoglio LF Magazine 40sw. That is exactly what it says on the receipt. I know high caps went like hot cakes on all the other manufacturers so I dont figure I can find one of those but I only have the one mag that I trust and want to get a second mag. Problem is I go to gun broker and most people just list their mags as fitting witness. I just ordered a 12 rounder and it wouldn't fit my gun although the gentleman thought it might fit the full size steel. I don't want those horrid mags with the spacer in the front and the red follower. I have 2 and dont trust them. So where can I find a second magazine. I know mec gar was making them without the spacer. Anyone be able to at least give me the model number so I can search the internet. Its fine if its not a 17 rd. I would like to get at least 12 but if 10 is all they made then I guess that would have to do. Also .. I would like a replacement spring for the one I have listed above. Any chance of that? THANK YOU for any help. Alex
  2. HELP !! I have put up some pix to see if anyone can see something I'm not. I just recently changed my gun from single action to double action. Took it out the first day no problem. Second day I dry fired for the first time ever with out a snap cap. Now here is what is happening. When I drop the hammer the firing pin goes forward and sticks out beyond the breach face a good 1/4 inch or more. Its STUCK! The back end has pushed itself past the firing pin block and gets lodged and the firing pin block just drops to the floor. I put the firing pin in with the flat side facing left when you look at it from the top. I thought it was possibly a bent firing pin and spent about 50 bucks for a new firing pin and spring. I am so frustrated its killing me. I just want to get it working. What might cause this. It seems like the main spring is causing the hammer to fall with more force than it did and is driving the pin further than it should. 3. Firing pin was in correctly but the firing pin and the firing pin channels were rough as hell. A little clean up on the firing wide part of the firing pin that actually makes contact with the firing pin channel with some 320 and then rouge on a dremel and it slide in and out nicely. Before it was scratchy as hell. I put everything back together and have dry fired with a snap cap more than 500 times this weekend. Monday I go out and shoot so lets see. Alex
  4. I turn the firing pin backward and tried to push in the firing pin and it would get stuck. Just tried sliding it in and out with no spring. It was getting stuck in the firing pin cavity. It was so rough it was sticking. Now I fired about 100 rds through the gun before the change but who knows. Anyway I broke out some 320 wet dry paper and sanded it .. not the spike part that actually makes contact with the primer. I especially sanded where I could see the wear marks on the pin. Then I put some rouge on a dremel and polished it out. While I know you are not supposed to I went ahead and put an ever so small amount of white lithium and put it all back together. Pin now slides freely in the cavity with no felling of burs. Fired 4 rounds and dry fired with a snap cap in it and it seems that fixed it. Wont know until I get out to the range and put another hundred rounds through it but at least for now it works. alex
  5. Finished doing a S/A to D/A S/A conversion on my Witness Match. dry fired about 50 times with a snap cap and no problem. Trigger was gritty so I took off the slide and added a little oil to the interrupter. Put it back together and dryfired once and the trigger block fell off. I racked the gun open and put on the slide lock and there was my firing pin sticking out of the breach face about an inch and jammed in the hole. I was able to force it out but now it wont go back in! Help!! Alex
  6. I changed my Witness match from SA to DA/SA. I have decided that if I can I would like to lighten up the 60 LB pull of the double action. I see at the hennings shop that there are three different Weights. I plan on concealed carry/ nightstand for this gun. What are the down sides to putting in one of the reduced weight springs and which weight of spring has met with the most success. I need the gun to go bang each and every time. Alex
  7. What I don't understand is; the hammer was falling forward in double action and single action and nothing. No boom. Why would backing out the over travel screw make any difference. Its not like it was impeding the hammer action since the hammer was falling. But like I said. Backed out the over travel screw and it went boom but now I am curious ... how did that make a difference. If any one else wants to DIY maybe this thread will help. Alex
  8. Ok ... Im a dumb ass. I took the hammer out again. reinstalled the hammer and sear group .. a pain ... still no boom. Then just to cover all my bases I backed out the over travel screw. Dont know why that worked exactly but boom in double action and boom in single. YAYYYY I am now very happy with my gun! Its not the easiest install but if you are mechanically inclined and have time you can do it at home. This was not for the faint of heart! Off to the range on Monday to throw at least 50-100 rounds down range. Thank you everyone for your help! Alex
  9. Got everything together .. trigger with spring was a bear but done .. except for one problem .. it doesnt go boom. The double action action works fine. locks in the open position for single action .. but... there is some play forward and back in the hammer When it rests up against the firing pin you can move it off the firing pin a heavy 1/6 of an inch. I know that when the hammer is up against the firing pin there should be no back and forth movement but you can move it back so it is not depressing the firing pin without any tension like I said about 1/16th without pressure. Im thinking I may have put the hammer strut in backwards but the diagram shows the dog leg pointing back. Ogh .. any ideas? Feels like the hammer spring is not putting enough tension on the hammer. 10. THANK YOU !! So its going from the new double action hammer to make contact at the trigger bar under the sear group. Thank you again. Alex
  11. So I ordered the parts to convert my single action Match to a DA/SA. I'm not afraid to get in there and do it myself and have done so on other guns with no issue. I just sold off a standard witness 45 so I don't have a model to go by so ... Where does the interrupter go. I down loaded the frame disassembly video and take down doesn't look very different from my ruger P89. No worries but the video is for single action and not double.. so can anyone send me a link to a pic or video or provide their own napkin sketch on how the interrupter fits in. Alex
  12. Is it possible to turn the single action Match into DA/SA with a drop in part? Is it possible at all? Alex
  13. I have a match and I am wondering .. what are all the things that make the match a match. What are the specs? I got adjustable sight, single action, two tone finish... and? Alex
