  1. Research your area for a mom n pop tool grinding company, can't beat personal service.
  2. Bounce back stems from dimples or plate angle, copper jackets are nasty. SWPL and NRG don't restrict PF, but nice to know
  3. What's wrong with using open loads? Dropping PF will change cyclic timing.
  4. Give the charging handle an extra bump during seating, also helps clear powder bridging when using Varget.
  5. 9 major AA7, Save the AA5 for open gun steel challenge loads.
  6. Bypass comp, built one for a friend. After it burned out we cut it in half. The powder deposits in the bypass port was interesting, wish I'd kept it/
  7. Take a look here, wish Blind Hogg's site was still up. Barrel Fitting the 1911 Auto | Top Rated Supplier of Firearm Reloading Equipment, Supplies, and Tools - Colt (brownells.com)
  8. She's really good when she sez "That one is cracked."
  9. Test for OOB hammer fall. Cock hammer, pull slide OOB 1/4". Allow slide to move slowly toward battery while tickling the trigger, if hammer falls before battery the problem is the disconnector nose is worn. Ignition is fast enough to prevent the slide from going to battery and start extracting the case. Brass fatigue will show a slightly shiny ring around the case internal web, usually mid way down. Annealing won't help. Accepting the risk is complacency, don't. Please, be careful. Powder measure, measure 10 - 20 powder drops to get an average. Most powder measures will vary 1-2 tenths of a grain.
  10. You'll say Fak when the chrono sez Minor Been using HS-6 & WAC, I like a little snappier powder. Be careful tho, WAC hot loads give my gun a bad side shimmy where HS6 doesn't. Look thru the reloading forum. Tread lightly with Open load development, disaster factor is a trigger pull away.
  11. I've let many a new shooters try my open gun, I do make them dry fire a bunch so they know the trigger (sub 2) and only load one or two rds at first. Some ranges don't tear down their stages, ask the Match Director if it's OK to practice run an empty stage.
  12. Compare your existing disconnector to a new one, short disconnector nose will allow sear engagement out of battery.
  13. experience and expectation, get more trigger time. See what it's doing for doubles. Experiment with loads, never tried vectan sp2. Comps like lots of gas volume. One the guys at Norco said "If you don't like your comp, add more powder" 165PF is the power floor, doesn't mean your gun likes it.
  14. Can't speak to Tac Sol products, have a Nelson Custom on a 2011 frame. Cyclic is slightly slower than an open gun, std vel ammo. edit: ejector not mounted.
  15. Yes. Word of warning, keep you finger out when reholstering.
  16. Mini IPSC USPSA 1/2 Size Cardboard Target (alcotarget.com) Bought these for indoor ipsc, actually 1/4 scale. Not associated with ALCO, just a customer.
  17. It is accuracy and speed, both depend upon your skills. The plate is your 10 ring. Shoot your speed, when confident, push 5-10%. Leave your emotions and expectations in the parking lot. Thinking you can go faster, well it might work (2) getting started for steel challenge - YouTube
  18. If you have a 22 pistol, use that. Save your money til you know what you want. Ask questions of your fellow squad members, watch, help with scoresheets, set up / tear down.
  19. 10/22 is almost as bad as a wife that likes the newest furniture.
  20. First 2 ports are the most important, after the third port its fluff. Look at artillery muzzle brakes to get an idea. Each port length is a percentage / multiple of the caliber. Maximize baffle surface area. You'll learn about exit angles. Long comps can become entangled with props, be careful. Glad to see some of you are involved with rimfire steel, try it with a holster. Finally got a local indoor range to host an after hours ipsc & steel challenge nite.
