  1. Cool. Good info. Once the shrine is complete, I will know what to chant.
  2. Shooters are bastards. Fun bastards , but bastards nonetheless.
  3. If he's going to be my plastic-totin' hero. I want to be able to say it correctly.
  4. Steve, I wish you weren't getting pinched by this. The greed at the source is a free-market problem, and sharing is the only free-market solution. Maybe the execs, sony shareholders and megastars will get the point.

  6. "Thanks for reviving the thread blue. It's just what I've been struggling with lately." No prob. IDPA scoring is simplicity itself. It shows the raw time, and the number beside it is points down (poor hits, penalties, etc.). Everybody in each division is held to the same PF, and supposedly, you're only shooting against those in the same class. Only that's crap, because you're shooting against everybody. I revived this thread, mostly because a couple of those fellas whose times are close to mine are pretty new to competitive shooting, whereas I've been at it for a couple of years. I have improved (I was slow and inaccurate.), but compacency isn't advancing me any. BTW, I'll be using that PAR time trick. Never woulda thought of it.
  7. Thanks, Bill. I agree on your asessment of Corky. He is pretty good people, along with the rest of the club at MVSA. None of the area clubs provide much reason to gripe, and CASA and MVSA shoot IPSC if I decide to start that.
  8. I knew there was no need to start my own thread on this. By the numbers, is it time for me? The pseudonym I use to compete in IDPA matches is "Steve Owens" I'm in SSP/MM, toward the bottom. http://www.hotspringsar.net/mvsa/080302.html
  9. I have an Aftermarket barrel in my 22. Since the loads I crank out for IDPA are pretty soft, I tried them in my spankin' new (to me) 35. I've seen much Glockdafied brass, and these showed no evidence. Definitely cool with light loads.
  10. I'd hate to bring about the end of a username. That's speed over accuracy, I guess. I posed this q on GT, and Hoss weighed in with the suggestion that the roughness might be from the reset "nub" needing fitting as well. It's moot because I whiled away the time aiting for replies by dremelling away the stop, so the thing is pretty much a $26 toothpick. I know I can take the guarantee, but I think I'll just let Matt do a trigger job, as well as try to fit my barrel a little better. I had the housing in tight, it was pinned back in every time. The GR connector was a looser fit than the other connectors I tried in the gun, and i figure with the pressure from the trigger bar, it will just get looser.
  11. I stared at the word thinkin' WTF? I giggle. I didn't roll because there's Glock parts all over the floor. Some of 'em might hurt me. Then I thought, "Do I edit? Naaaah, wouldn't be fun anymore." Stack knows I meant well.
  12. I get the part. I put it in. I test it, and the striker (that's Austrian for firing pin) releases, just like it oughta. First try, no filin' no nuttin'. But the slide cycles rough. Rougher than rough. Nasty. The instructions (I know, I know) say in this case, you shorten the stop. I did, and now, while there is noticeably more travel, movement of the slide has not gotten better. At this point, the travel is not much better than my new, stock G27. Any more, and I'm afraid I'll have to take ghost rocket up on their I-screwed-up offer. GR is closed today, so no help there until Monday. I know singlestank did a successful install, but if anybody else (CGR?) has some ideas, help a brother out.
  13. We of the peanut gallery commiserate. Many pop psychologists would say it's why we own guns.
  14. http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...2&topic=103 http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...2&topic=117 These make mention of trigger options. The gunsmithing forum, parts & accessories forum, and maybe the competition forums on GT. You'll just have to weed through the "why you shouldn't have/want a lighter/better trigger" responses over there. Almost every thread here touches on the Glock's trigger. It seems to be the prevalent gripe about the gun. (Edited by bluemeanie at 1:14 pm on June 22, 2002)
  15. I dig mine, except for the fact that some of the IDPA matches I've been to have called for the dreaded low-light tac reloads, and trying to handle the grip, two mags, and a flashlight is tough, even for large hands. I also screwed up and put ashley express sights on it.
  16. Steve, The G21 is the full-sized, wide-body, couldn't-conceal-it-in-a-space-suit........ .45
  17. Hey, Flex! The 1.125 loads would feed, but some loads are 2 or 3 thou below that (I think due to variations in the bullets themselves. My plated .45's were the same way. ) Going with the "longer is better" theory, I ran my seating die out. I also tightened my crimp die a little. I'm loathe to put a true crimp on them, cuz Brian's reloading video says not to. 1.165 seems huuuge, but I might try it if this new batch isn't satisfactory. Steve: I do have a chrono, and will follow your suggestion, concentrating on feeding, then getting the feel I want. From what I've seen I shouldn't even need it, since the velocity I need to make IDPA's Minimum Power Floor is ridiculously low. I shot a couple of Winchester "white box" loads for comparison yesterday, at about 950fps, and then six of mine, which averaged right at 900. ,ES of twenty-something (sorry, don't have my notes). Oh, yeah, to answer Kyle's question, the barrel is from Wilson Combat. Given that they stamp their name into other people's products, it'sa anybody's guess who the manufacturer is. They usually sell good stuff, though, and this bbl has fed factory ammo like a champ. (Edited by bluemeanie at 7:25 am on June 19, 2002)
  18. In my lurking here and on GT, I've gotten the impression that #5 was inconsistent. I only bought a pound, and that was before I started really looking into it. After I use it up, I'll probably be buying another powder. This is funny-looking stuff to a guy used to universal. There is a somewhat coarse flake action going on, but there are also much finer pieces in there, as if it's breaking down. Wierd. As for losing velocity, this is a pure "gamer" load, and soft is the name of my reloading game. I appreciate the input.
  19. Okay, the range yielded more questions than answers today. I figured this was worth a whole new thread. I'm using the above named powder, starline brass, and Berry's 180gr plated flat points. My goal is the softest loads that will reliably run the gun, a Glock22 with a match barrel. My first attempt was with a 6.4gr charge. At an average of 900fps or so, it was a litle snappy, but I had 2 failures to feed at a COL of around 1.121. These bullets seem to vary in length as most loads were about 1.125, matching some factory loads I had on hand. Now, to end this little ramble with a question: If I increase my COL to 1.135 or so (which is max in my manuals, and feeds through the gun when cycled by hand) what happens with pressures in the chamber? Do they spike? At this charge weight , is it even worth considering? Given that these are IDPA loads, and that I can drop to 700fps (!!!) am I using the wrong powder? (One question, three questions, who's counting?)
  20. Once again, the board comes through. I had no idea the cases would actually get shorter. Since they're 2 thou shorter than max, I should be golden. I hand-cycled a few through the gun, and once my shooting buddy shows up, I'm off to test the dozen rounds I've loaded so far. I tested a couple of rounds for setback, and all was cool. I decided to switch to 6.4 grs of AA #5, and I'll report this evening when I get back.
  21. Thought so too, but the books list a max length and a "trim to" length. I lack experience with loading new brass.
  22. Getting ready to convert my press this afternoon. It occured to me to measure my new brass. The new cases are .848", within a couple thou of the max case length listed in my Hornady manual. Any potential problems with just loading it up? Additional info: Gun is a Glock model 22 with an aftermarket match barrel. I'm making softball loads with 180gr flatpoints and universal clays.
  23. I'm not sure whose barrel Wilson Combat sells, but I put one in my G22. It required some pretty serious fitting. As near as i can tell, it is more accurate, and after doing everything I could think of to cause feed problems with it, it has performed well.
  24. I'm not sure what steel shooters in general call it, but the club at CASA in LR AR call their monster target a triple dropper. That is a lesson in frustration, no matter what cartridge you use. I'd like to get in some practice on GSSF-type stages, so I need to round up some steel.
