  1. I would still like an 8 shot L frame in 327 federal magnum, with a 5" or 6" barrel. If we are going to dream big it could be moon-clipped and chambered in 30 super-carry. I am sure all those ammo manufactures that geared up for production of the 30 super carry might be happy. A titanium cylinder would be nice, but I am not sure it could handle the pressure.

I suspect the BOD is discussing rule changes to Revolver Division without seeking any input whatsoever from those of us who actually participate in that division.

Can anybody prove me wrong?  MWP, did anybody talk to you about this?

Good to see you back posting Mike, I hope all is well with you.

I am not aware of who the current USPSA officers are, or president. Do any of them have a classification in revolver at all or shot a revolver in USPSA?

  3. I had finally decided to break my oath, and actually get an 8 shot revolver. My first firing pin in frame S&W I bought, an  L frame was a mess. It's only saving grace was it would shoot any bullet weight and powder I put in it dead nuts accurate. After a trip to a gunsmith who I had always wanted to work on my gun, it is perfect, I love the damn thing. That was going to be the last new S&W (Lock, firing pin in frame) I was going to buy. I decided for an 8 shot gun I would get one of the new Ruger Super GP100 8 shot guns when they became available again. I have contacted Ruger customer service, and they still are in production, just no ETA on when they will resurface for the past year or so. I am sitting down tonight catching up before I go climb into the rack, and what appears in an ad from a gun store. The 8 shot Ruger I have been waiting for? No! I am sure there is a reason behind the "Need" for this revolver, maybe handgun silhouette is making a comeback. I am not sure, but I find it hard to believe there would be more demand for this, over the Super GP100.

I still wouldn't have done it, but it would have been a lot more feasible here than at almost any USPSA match I've been to.

I have a lot of moon clips to disassemble before my flight home with two rounds left in them.

Thanks I thought that might be the case. A few of the guys in the matches I watched, I think one was in Poland, did appear to be using six shots.

  5. I also would really enjoy seeing you guys shoot if you are able to post some of the stages. I have seen some the European shooters posting on the IPSC Revolver Facebook page from their matches. It seems a lot of the stages there are 6 round neutral in the European IPSC matches. If this is the case with this match,  I would be interested also to hear what you think of possibly shooting 6 shot major.

  6. For what it is worth this is what S&W has posted on their YouTube page. I hope that S&W will do some editing and commentary of the actual run and post it in the future, at least that is what I would expect. It is just my opinion, but the choice of music in this video would seem to indicate how completely out of touch with the revolver market audience the S&W marketing team is.

  7. Well I am going to suggest trying the most painful, slippery, and seemingly awkward grips I tried on an N frame major gun.  I would say give the JM broomstick grips a try and see how those feel. Using them on an N frame shooting minor and CHECKERED is actually pretty good.

  8. Check if your wife has any dryer sheets and give the loaders a wipe with those. That should knock the static down on the plastic and then try the air to clean off any dust. The static will return, so if the dryer sheets work, pack a few in your range bag.

Such a neat looking gun, why they don't offer it as a 6 shooter will anyone ever know ??

You know Dave I just gave up on why and how these manufacturing decisions are made. S&W make the exact same gun as a 6 shot in the 4" version......
    https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/l-frame-11759
I went and read the IDPA rules after answering his question. In SSR, the part would have to offered on a factory gun. It does not specify dimensions however. So if someone wanted to argue(Game it) and could get the part from S&W on the above L frames it does meet the wording in the IDPA rulebook for SSR. If you showed up at a match to shoot SSR with the above gun a factory offering would they make you change the cylinder release to compete?
SSR-Cylinder latches may be changed to another factory offering from the firearm manufacturer
In enhanced service revolver it says aftermarket is allowed, but specifies dimensions.
ESR-Cylinder latches may be modified or replaced, but may not protrude past the frame in any direction and may not be thicker than 3 /8" as measured from the side plate of the frame.
The release Hogue made for the GP100 would also be out for SSR and ESR it would seem.

Let me rephrase that to more harassment.

Almost all gunsmiths have an FFL or should, and the AFT has been less than cordial. Also shipping companies have been difficult about shipping firearms and accessories. Before Jim Hoag passed several years ago, he was having customers bring parts in with the guns they wanted him to work on. Some DOJ agent gave him a bunch or grief about selling parts and installing them, said that was considered manufacturing and threatened him.

And SDM and TK Custom and Revo-Gear. Alas, I'm trying to game an IDPA rule, so it would have to be direct from Smith.

I had called and tried to get the cylinder release from the model I linked above. You might get lucky and get someone who will sell it to you at smith. The young lady I spoke to was able to find the part number, but said it was a Performance Center item only and could not sell it. That or see if TK will sell you an unbranded one as they look identical.

  12. Without knowing the caliber or seeing more of the gun it is hard to tell. Some of the S&W Brazilian contract 1917 did have that style of ejection rod, but that is all I can really make out from the photo.

I read where a European Revolver competitor had loaded Short Colt or Long Colt to major PF back when we had only 6 shots in IPSC.  Don't know how it worked in the long term for him though.

Might be as simple as finding the right powder and setting up a light on your press.  I ended up putting a mirror and a light on my 1050 so I can look right down into the case.

I remember some post from shooters in Italy and Germany were cutting down 38 special cases and loading 200gr RN bullets.  I have a saved post where Sascha Bach/Cooper_999 from Germany was loading 38 short colt to major PF for IPSC will link below(information is near bottom of first page).

Ok guys, I got a 627 cylinder ordered from S&W. Any tips on where I can find the rest of the cylinder assembly (minus yoke)?

You could get them from S&W where you ordered the cylinder, or as suggested e-bay and Numrich. I have also had good luck and service  with Jack Fist Gun Parts.

The factory barrels are 1/10 twist.

Ymmv.   Of my 4 929's only 1 factory barrel shot something id call good at 25 yards.  The others were 4" ++

Ok thanks, I was wondering if they had the 1-10 or the 1-18 3/4 that the .357 guns used to come with.

  16. I did not want to start a new thread for this question, so going to ask it here. There has been a bit of back and forth over the diameter of the barrels S&W used on the 929 and people have slugged the barrels seem to get the a pretty consistent result on the diameter. I wanted to know what the twist rate of the barrels are in the 929 vs the 627, 38/357 guns?
