  1. I have the SFP XTR 1x8. Also a Viper PST 1x6 Gen II, and a Razor HD 1x6. Glass & reticle in the XTR is very similar to the Viper. Both very good, but not quite as good as the Razor HD. Can't go wrong with that price. I paid around $900 for mine. Nice to have the higher power when you need it. Many of us run 1x8 especially if you ever plan on shooting any majors. gerritm
  2. Could be that. Plus I am not really good about cleaning the lube off cases. Might be a build up of both. Gerritm
  3. Yes I did. Ran perfect in testing. Shot a couple of matches this weekend and both big mags malfunctioned. Tried them in 2 different guns 1 with JP barrel & other with Taccom ULW setup to see if it was the gun or mags. Failed in both. Jammed the first round just below the chamber so hard it pushed the bullet back. Ended up using my small pistol mags and they worked fine. Cost me the match. Noticed that there seems to be some burrs or crud right under the feed lips on both. Cleaned & polished the inside of the feed lips & mag with a SS brush on my Dremel. Noticed that the follower was traveling slightly higher & at a better feed angle. Hard to believe that could make that big a difference. Because the mags are so long long my normal mag brush will not reach this area. Also had a Taccom feed ramp laying around. Never really needed it before, so I installed it on mine. Did some dummy rounds and they all fed perfect on both mags. So back to the range to try them out. Just in case I ordered 2 new Glock 33 round mags to replace if needed. gerritm
  4. Pretty sure I solved my Mega problem, new 28 coil MBX springs. Replaced both and tested several full mags and back to 100%. Cut down one of the old springs to run in my 41 round TF Glock mag setup. Cut it 2 coils longer than the original and it has run 100% in 3 matches. Probably just jinxed myself. Shooting tomorrow. gerritm
  5. Agree. I also have a Burris XTR 1x8 to compare. The PST other than slightly less power is very close. Really like the PST reticle & dot is super bright. Info on holds is on Strelok. The HD glass in the Razor is what gives it the edge over the PST & Burris, reticle & dot are the same, also the increase in cost. $1200 against about $600 for the PST. gerritm
  6. This, I have a Viper PST Gen II and had the Strike Eagle. Also have a Vortex Razor 1x6. Very close to the Razor in quality & glass. Excellent scope for the money. Recommend it highly. gerritm
  7. Have one on one of my PCC's. Been about a year with no battery change and figuring it is due. When you remove it, change the battery, & reinstall will it maintain zero? Will definitely check zero after just curious. gerritm
  8. I had C-Rums do the lifter. Did a good job. Not a lot of room to open the loading port due to parts that interfere inside. Had loading port opened up by Benny. Don't have any pictures, Gun was great, but went to M2 for quad loads. gerritm
  9. I have pretty much shot PCC since day 1 it was approved. As far as our USPSA matches around Houston, there is no need to redesign any course of fire. There are techniques to move the PCC that do not involve sweeping or breaking the 180 up or down and to shoot it on any angle. As a 3-gun shooter I am used to running and gunning with a rifle. Problem is like anything you have to learn them and practice. My only issue has been when a MD designs the stage to mess with the PCC shooters, which has happened. Unsafe leans, one handed shots, etc. gerritm
  10. Counted the coils on the Mega ext spring that came out of my granddaughters and it had 28 coils. Maybe a bad temper on the springs. Oh. well going to test the new ones this weekend. gerritm
  11. I will count the coils, didn't do that just compared the lengths. Should be 28 coils. I know yours have mucho rounds on them and work. You know thinking back on the few failures before this, it was always the same, not feeding the round all the way up into the chamber. gerritm
  12. All my other Glock mags work fine in this PCC, just a problem with these. And only after sitting for the month or 2. Like I said they both worked perfect the last outing. This was on my PCC not the ULW Taccom upper. Don't have the ramp, never really needed it on this JP barrel. Pretty sure it is the springs. Got the new ones from MBX and laid the new and old side by side. Even after I had stretched the old one, there was about a 3-coil difference in length. Guessing either the original springs were either bad or they just wear out quickly due to the length. These were some of the first mega extensions when MBX came out with them. I really did not have that many matches or rounds on them. Have talked to other PCC shooters who have way more rounds and time on theirs with no problems. Still going strong. gerritm
  13. I guess my question is, why would the 28 coil spring loose its tension from sitting unloaded for a month or 2. It worked perfect before, never had as issue. Could it be a bad spring? Anyone else had any problems with these springs. Would putting a small spacer in the bottom that takes up 3 or 4 bullets help hold the tension? gerritm
  14. I almost exclusively shoot PCC now except in 3-gun. Really enjoy it. I never shot classifiers well, but always finished up in the standings whether PCC or open pistol. So I don't really care where I am classified. I like to shoot against the best and use them to judge my performance. We have some really good pistol & PCC shooters here. Here in the Houston area we have many USPSA matches to choose from and shoot PCC. All are well run and once they got over the PCC/rifle prejudices are great to shoot. Luckily we have a USPSA & falling steel match not too far away that really caters to PCC shooters. You can shoot any gun you want at the match, but PCC is the way to go.. The MD is a PCC shooter and sets them up to be super challenging for all. I have shot PCC only matches and don't really see much of a difference between them and USPSA. We also have hoser type matches with up to 25 paper or combos of paper and steel that are put on several times a years. The big mags & no reloads make for a good time. Now in UML 3-gun PCC becomes much more of a challenge with shots out to 100 yards. Totally different ball game. gerritm
  15. I have 2 of these on Glock 33 round mags. Did the transition and they have run almost perfect. Keep them unloaded between matches. Last time we used them they worked perfect. Both about 1 year old and used regularly. We have been shooting 3-gun lately and they have not been used in maybe a month or 2. Shot my first match with it a couple of weeks ago and total failure, would not feed consistently. Took it apart and cleaned, stretched the spring, made sure all was good and tried again, no go, worked intermittent, would feed then not. All my other mags with TF extensions ran fine, so not the gun. Sure it is the springs. Checked my other one that my granddaughter uses and it was very weak feeding the rounds, but did seem to work. Tried to order 2 new 28 coil springs, but MBX sent wrong items and have shipped out the correct ones. Thinking of making a spacer to put in bottom, really never need all of the capacity, we do shoot a hoser match with 50 rounds per stage once in awhile. Maybe take up 5 rounds or so to give spring a little more push. Generally change out my springs once a year depending on use, but thought it was kind of strange after sitting unloaded that they both did not work properly. gerritm
  16. I did make my own CF handguard for my PCC. Got a good round type of barrel nut. Measured the OD. Went to ebay and ordered the CF tube with the closest ID. Cut if off to length I wanted. Sealed the end with black paint. Drilled 2-holes and screwed it to the barrel nut. Cost less than $100 total. Works and looks great. gerritm
  17. Shot a small 3-gun match. Helping the RO. Shooter started in a small box with a barrel in front of him, low ready. Knelt on 1 knee to use the barrel for support to shoot 3 hanging steels at about 80 yards and the 8-10 paper targets from 40-60 yards. About 20 plus total shots. His rear foot was out of the shooting box the whole time. Could have given him 1 procedural for each shot, but decided no advantage so only 1 total. gerritm
  18. Not running an adjustable gas block, yet. I shot well over 1K rounds thru this combo, but changed the barrel out. Never mono podded it before as I usually shoot open with a bipod. We tested it, zeroed it, and ran couple of hundred rounds before the match to make sure all was good. I guess this is one more check before taking it to a match. gerritm
  19. Almost a super senior, discussion with another senior shooter. "Wow, that last stage felt really fast, good movement, quick double taps,... until I looked at the video." I quit videoing my stages. gerritm
  20. Will this Yoga class work? https://www.workforyourbeer.com/blog/12-beer-yoga-poses-you-need-to-try At least you will stay hydrated. gerritm
  21. Figured this out. Wasn't the bolt catch or out of spec lower. Replaced the bolt catch and no change. Changed BCG's and no change. Replaced the buffer & spring with a slightly heavier one and problem went away. I think when you went prone mono podding off the mag put just enough drag on the bolt to slow it down slightly, enough not to completely close. gerritm
  22. We shoot alot of PCC matches here locally in Houston area of Texas. Shot an all paper hoser match Sunday with roughly 25 paper target per stage with 5 stages. Being an outlaw 5th Sunday match and not really affiliated with any national group almost anything goes. SBR/Suppressors, AR15/10/9, limited pistol, or open pistol, you could shoot anything as long as it was legal. How fast is your trigger finger? Not sure about pistol braces, though. It was a blast. These are rare matches. Problem I see, and we shoot mainly sanctioned USPSA & 3-gun, is you are trying to shoe horn your build into sanctioned matches. Depending on your final build, you will need to find a MD that will allow what you shoot. Sanctioned matches have a rule set and generally don't allow someone to shoot a firearm that is not allowed, even just for fun. Mostly insurance rules. I would build one gun what I want and shoot it in those rare outlaw matches and then build one to compete. Or build one that will work in both. My lightweight 16" 9mm PCC is a great home defense gun and competition gun. gerritm
  23. Tried in mine with a KVP bolt & it would not reset the trigger. CMC trigger will work with my Taccom BCG. gerritm
  24. I have both. The Viper PST Gen 2 1x6 is absolutely worth the extra money over the SE. Reticle and dot are great. Also have a Razor 1x6. Very close in glass and half the price. Look on Gunbroker. Some pretty good deals on them if you get the auction. Picked one up over $100 off going price or get a 10% discount at Optics Planet code. gerritm
  25. Had a weird malfunction with my .223 AR over the weekend I built. Have shot this lower/upper combo many rounds without an issue, but never went prone before. Went prone with a double mag & it malfunctioned. BCG would reset enough to go click, ejected the spent case, but BCG would not close completely. Looks like the bolt catch may be getting pushed up by mag and dragging on bottom of BCG. Tested it with several different Magpul mags and could duplicate this. Mag release works fine. Insert the mag & shoot offhand and it works fine, use mag as a pod and it happens. Bad out of spec lower? Magwell is very tight with little play in mag when inserted. these are Magpul mags. Replace bolt catch (seems to be more play in it than my other rifles)? gerritm
