  1. Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Benny Hill, Triangle Shooting Sports. He is quite familiar with the RIA nose dive problem.

Get a set of calipers and check in inside distance of the front, and back of the feed lips. That should be .350 checked all of mine and noe were correct. Front way wide and the rear two narrow. He says that RIA does that to try and use the mag for 9mm and 22TCM so if they get a compromise both rounds will work one mag, Cuts cost of the gun. If not then nose dives or some other BS to fix.

I am giving this a try today. Will let you know.

I Have the following mags with performance and dimensions listed:

    Unused new factory RIA .22TCM - .330 rear / .325 front (2 other exact same mags function 100% w 9mm)

    Used STI 140mm - .365 rear / .380 front - 100% function

Used "new style" Para 18 rd 9mm mag - .355 rear / .380 front - 100% function (I have OPENED the front of the feed lips to .380 dim)

Used "new style" Para 18 rd 9mm mag - .355 rear / .360 front w Arredondo follower - 100% function (I have OPENED the front of the feed lips to .360 dim)

NONE of the above mags have the "nose dive" gap

Does anyone know if this would work in a p18 mag to help feeding problems?

I have NOT used STI followers in the "new" Para 9mm 18 rd mags, BUT - I do have new style Paras that are now functioning well after the feed lips have been "tweaked" outward just a bit.

In their factory form the mags had MANY nosedives (3-4 per 18 rds). Bending the feed lips (OUT, toward the front of mag) helped measurably - did this (3) times, just a little at a time and the mags functioned nearly 100% yesterday.

Over 60 rds per mag fired 100% reliably - save for on a completely stock Para mag that locks slide back with one rnd left (easily remedied if you choose to file on the follower).

Also, I have an Arrendondo follower in one of the Paras and it functions 100% as above after (slightly) bending the feed lips.

May test both STI and factory RIA (TCM) followers soon.

  3. Got it a few months ago - the fist few minutes are somewhat entertaining.

All the comp guns are airsoft pistols with some muzzle flashes "added" for effect. The pistol match between the 2 main characters has more potential DQ's than we would normally see in a years worth of twice monthly matches.

The $9.99 w free ship that I paid was fair, but do NOT go for this for any higher price .............

  4. For anyone with a 51687 .22TCM/9mm pistol, who may be as frustrated as I (still) am -

    Here's a few facts:

The factory 17 rd mags (marked .22tcm) with flat sheet metal base pads, do function 100%. Also, the Dawson .200 base pads installed on these mags do NOT lock in place with or without a Dawson magwell.

New style Para mags do NOT work as shipped - many rounds nosedive at base of chamber, but some tweaking of the mag lips MAY improve this problem (I have had some success, BUT Para mags are not 100% reliable at this point).

140mm STI mag locks in and feeds well, BUT must be sanded/filed to drop free.

Brand new SV 140mm mag is a VERY tight fit in the gun and is difficult to remove - mag must be sanded to fit but I am hesitant to mod a new $130 SV mag !

I've also installed a Dawson fiber optic front sight with no issues and a RIA ambi safety (it was necessary to Dremel the right side lever to reduce annoying rub at base of my trigger finger).

Last, a Dawson Para magwell fits and installs easily BUT the factory 17 rd mags won't work with magwell without some serious grinding on any base plate or base pad.

All the above are FYI, may help but I'm suspicious that the RIA frame dimensions may vary a bit from gun to gun.

  5. Let me explain again. The Mec-Gar mags are the same mags that come with the 9mm high capacity TACTICAL model and the PRO MATCH 40 model. RIA uses the Mec-Gar mags. These two RIA pistols have the factory mag well installed, which means that the frames have been cut (shortened) for the factory mag well. The Mec-Gar mags will work with the Dawson pads that came with both of my pistols. The combos that I am explaining will NOT WORK with the stock high capacity frames due to Mec-gar mags are shorter. Just trying to help.

    THANKS !!!

  6. Just to give the Rock Island shooters a heads up. The mag that comes with the Pro Match are MecGar mags and Greg Cote LLC has MecGar P-16 mags in stock . The will work with Dawson base pads for 19 to 20 rounds. Greg also has MecGar P-18 mags that works in the Tactical FS 9mm. This mag works with Dawson pads as well, but will only get 19 rnds of 9mm due to the rounds dropping below the ribs on the mag. I am going to try the Arrendondo spacer that fits into the Dawson basepad and it may solve the rib problem on the mag. I love my Pro Match and also my Tactical 9mm. The guns are accurate beyond belief.

So you own mecgar p-18 mags, have fitted Dawson base pads, they insert & lock with a magwell and, they function 100%. ???

Just checking to be certain about this ..........

  7. I bought the .22tcm/9mm a few weeks ago

installed a Dawson FO front sight, Brown 2 PC guide rod, and an Armscor ambi safety (a LOT of fitting required)

Also have a Dawson mag well and some Para mags w Dawson pads & Arredondo kits. BUT, even thought the Para mags lock in and drop free perfectly, they do NOT function well. Many rounds nosedive at the base of the barrel and fail to feed.

Unfortunate because the Paras allow for the Dawson magwelll and the Dawson bases hold 21 rounds ..........

The factory RIA 9mm mags function 100% and the pistol shoots great, so my next step is to try a STI 140mm sanded to fit.

STIs will be more expensive but if they function well and the magwell can be installed, the Rock will be a great pistol for limited and 3 gun.

    Fingers crossed. .................

  8. First -

ARMSCOR SUCKS (and this week so does Dawson) !

There, now I feel better. !!!

Bought a .22TCM/9mm about 2 weeks ago, pistol functions 100% (9mm) and shoots OK. Since I'll be using it primarily for 3 gun I ordered some mags and parts last Sunday -

Ambi safety and mag fm Armscor

    2 Mags fm Para

Base pad kit, mag well and front sight fm Dawson

2 PC Ed. Brown guide rod fm Shooters Conn

Got the guide rod ambi Armscor & Para mags but no parts fm Dawson as of today. I did email them to find out they back ordered the base pad kits BUT failed to notify me ! They offered to ship the magwell & front sight and ship the base pads later - which they should have done 3-4 days ago.

Armscor sent (2) TWO left side safety levers and no right side. And they fail to detail you need a special sear pin to install the ambi. I called a few hours ago and some guy who spoke broken English answered the phone "hello". Was able to get to a parts guy (Jhune) who after some difficult explaining will send the correct right side safe lever BUT I'll have to order the $2 sear pin seperatly and pay another $9.00 shipping.

Last problem is probably my fault - the .22TCM mag w base pad will not lock in my pistol. Can I Dremel on the pad or a bit on the mag well to get the mag to seat, or, is it best to just pitch this mag in the spare parts bin ???

Bright side is today was a great day at the range practicing for steel challenge on Sunday with my major 9 STI open pistol !!!

  9. I have tried both with an M&P Core w a Deltapoint red dot - felt recoil and muzzle rise was about the same using factory 115 gr ammo with either a comp or magnaport. Its likely the comp may work a bit better if you step up to major PF. ..............

  10. Just shoot 9mm in your gun as it is, usually it works like a charm.

Load up an STI .38S/9mm mag w 9mm ammo and shoot in an STI .38 Super (TruBore etc) ???

To be clear, I was asking a "loaded" question up above - I'm NOT going to try my 9mm major loads in any .38 super pistol .......................................................

    :):):)

  11. Draw with thumb on the safety, disengage safety when extending and leave the thumb on top of the safety until you want to engage it again. No chance you will accidently engage safety during fire that way. Cheers.

    Ditto !!!
