  1. How much difference between the 15 round frame & the 17 round frame? Thanks!
  2. I've rarely had good results changing my game plan right before the buzzer, so I avoid it. I'd rather stick with my clunky old plan that I planned, and apply what I learned at a later time. Another thing I've noticed is, It's not always the guy with the best plans that wins. It's the guy that makes the Fewest Mistakes with the plans he uses.
  3. Thanks guys. I don't run max loads, just medium. It's easier on the equipment overall. I'll just keep the HK brass segregated and run it til it starts looking bad. I'll keep an eye on the case head. John B
  4. I agree with this. Right now I have loads worked up for Bullseye, and Unique. If I run low on one, I can switch right over to the other. But...... If I need to, I would run anything I can get my grubby paws on......
  5. Question on this: When you fire rounds thru the 308 HK 91 and they come out with the striped appearance, are these casing still reloadable, or should they be destined for the recycle bin? I remember years a go having a discussion about this elsewhere, but it's been so long ago...... don't remember what was said. Thanks, John B
  6. I'm having pretty good results with 4.7 gr Bullseye, 1.120" The Stinars are excellent business folks. Their customer service is fantastic.
  7. Hang in there, Chris. If it helps, just think of diverting that income you used to spend on tobacco to spend on reloading components. That means more shooting time, which is much healthier because you are out and about and moving around. I've heard it helps to break a bad habit (in this case chewing) by replacing it with a good habit (shooting). For real. The good habit occupies your time, hands, and mind.
  8. I'm using 5.2 gr Unique with a 230 gr rnl in a 5" 625.
  9. This past year I've been using some CCI primers my Dad bought in the 70's, and some Federal he bought in the late 80's. they ran without a hitch. Stored properly, primers can last a while. I would try the double pump method, turning the case 180 degrees between pumps. Sometimes the cheap fix is what works.
  10. Same here. My favorite and best performing gun lube brands are FREE, followed closely by REAL CHEAP. The main lube/function issues I've seen at matches are the folks running their 1911/2011's too dry. Some just don't like the "dirty" well oiled look. Remember, If you're not getting oil splattered onto your glasses, your gun (1911/2011) is too dry!
  11. I prefer the Lyman 401638 175 gr TC. I load them to 1.125", with either 5.3 gr of Unique, or 4.8 gr Bullseye. I have two 4 cavity molds, and I crank out about 500 bullets per hour at a moderate rate. I can run close to 1,000 bullets per hour thru my Star sizer. I have tried some Bull-X brand SWC's thru my Edge with out a problem. I also tried some RNFP bullets from a local caster thru it. He wants to sell me a bunch of those. The RNFP went thru the gun without a hitch also. I will say the main reason I go with the TC bullet is because it LOOKED more reliable, and gives me the warm fuzzies.
  12. Um..... those are all I currently use for Single Stack, Limited, Revolver, Production.
  13. I run two 4 cavity molds, Lyman 401638, a 175 grain truncated cone, size them to .401 on a Star lubrisizer. I use any lube that is cheap or free, currently using Jakes Products lube 4.8 gr Bullseye or 5.3 gr Unique, OAL is 1.125, mixed headstamp brass. Lead is either straight wheelweights or straight range lead. These loads are run thru an STI Edge, 5 inch barrel
  14. Your 200 gr swcl bullets should be seated at 0.920" from the case head to the shoulder. So, instead of measuring the OAL, just measure up to the shoulder to get this measurement.
  15. I cast my own. Lyman mold #401638 175 gr truncated cone. They come out to 178 gr. I run them at 1.125 OAL at 179 power factor thru my Edge.
  16. I started loading 40s&w about 3 summers ago. I am using Unique simply because I have a good supply of it. 5.3 gr Unique 175 gr lead truncated cone mixed brass Winchester primer. 172 PF I've had good results. Reliable function , good accuracy. I'm running these loads thru an STI Edge.
  17. That hurts , I am not sure if I can sleep tonight now !!!! I tried , I won the classifier and it still is only a "B".There was a lot A shooters and 1 M there too. That will knock a high % out and lower percent I bet. I should try to practice but what fun would that be. Brent the sand bagger (new aka, had the machine gun thing long enough, Thanks John) Ok, I guess it's time to lay the "Machinegun Roberts" name to rest. I'll be sure not to tell anyone you actually earned that nickname at an IDPA match!
  18. What he said. Plus, on the occasion I feel having a shiny stainless revolver, I use Nevr-Dull. (That's how it's spelled). It's available at hardware stores and hardware departments of bigger stores. It's cheap and one can will last quite a while.
  19. Won my division. It was also nice to get out and be around old friends and other competitors. My oldest sister was finally able to fly in from out west. We got Mom, our brother and one other sister, and visited Dad's grave site. It's nice to have everyone together, but sad for the reason.
  20. Thanks, Everyone, for your kind words and support. Dad's knowledge and skill in so many disciplines of shooting is nothing short of phenominal. To say he loved to compete and win would be an understatement. I consider myself quite fortunate to have grown up under his guidance and teaching. He was not able to shoot the last few years of his life, due to failing health. I would video the matches I attended, and plug into his TV, and play them back. Boy that made not only his day, but his whole week. Thanks, also, to everyone who asked about him over the past few years. When ever I would tell him who had asked about him and said to say "Hi", it would brighten his day. He loved hearing that his friends still remembered and cared. Dad was laid to rest Tuesday, Feb. 23. I slipped a loaded .45 mag in his pocket for that final reload, before they closed the lid. Well, I have a revolver shined up and my shooting bag loaded for tomorrow's match. This match is for you, Dad..... John Blackwell Warsaw, Indiana
  21. Hello Craig, Yes, ambient temperature can make a huge difference, espescially with reduced loads. For this reason, I like to run my minor loads about 140 pf, as chrono'd during the summer. This way, if I use that load during cool weather, it shouldn't go below minimum. Plus, I like that little extra "umph" to make sure any steel goes down. John B
  22. Thanks, Chris. Looks like the Dynamic Duo (Aaron & Jake) just waled on me. I must be shooting too conservatively. Gotta start speeding up. As we say at Nappanee, "FASTER, STEVE, FASTER!" (Inside joke) Scores are up on USPSA website. The club is listed as Warsaw Practical Shooters. John B
  23. I was using Bullseye for everything (pistol). Then it seem to become scarce a couple years ago. So I switched to Unique for the autos. I'm saving my Bullseye for my revolver loads.
  24. Hello, Bruce. If it were me, I would throw them in there and use them. For my 40 major loads, I use 5.3 gr Unique for a power factor of 169-172 (depends on whose chrono they go over). I'm nowhere near max, 5.8 gr, so I wouldn't think the extra oomph from the magnum primers would make much difference. I would probably load 20 or so and check them out before I loaded the whole thousand, just to be sure the load was comfortable to shoot. I have already tried regular small rifle primers in my 40 major loads, just to see if they'll work, and didn't notice any difference. Good shootin' John B
