  1. In IPSC/USPSA the idea is to never run the gun dry, however as Run n Gun pointed out, "with a 1911" it is MUCH faster to release the slide via the slide lock as your acquiring your grip, the timer doesn't lie.
  2. Its a Nowlin 5" with a long throat and tight chamber, it is to bad my ammo won't make major in any gun but mine, super accurate too. My 650 throws charges +/- .01gr., avg. for 10, almost like clockwork. I let the case feeder feed cases and short stroke one time so I get a powder charge and not punch the primer, makes for a consistant charging on lots of 10 ea. cases. It will throw the first few shots a bit slower like almost any gun.
  3. Ok after lots of chrono work, Here are the results from my VV320 lot changeover. My old 8lb. lot of VV320 #642/02, 02334, 13.11.2002 would throw at 4.85gr. from my Dillon 650. This 40S&W 180 gr Zero JHP load @ 1.20" @ 65F, would go 939FPS, PF 169.0, SD5, @65F. Just changing lots over to lot # 657/02, 00009, 5.29.2003, changed the weight per charge to 4.8gr, a drop of .05gr. This changed the velocity to 920FPS, PF 165.7, SD4, @65F. Just for info this is with the dial at 10:30 on my 650 powder measure. As this is a bit close to the PF limit, I added .10 gr. up to 4.90gr. which is 12:00 on my powder measure, and got 940FPS, PF 169.2, SD 6 @ 65F. FYI; I have found that my VV320 loads will go up from 169PF @ 65F, to 171PF @ 80F. Results; Lot changeover dropped the charge weight from 4.85gr to 4.80gr, had to go to 4.90gr to make it back to same power factor.
  4. When shooting High Power at 300+ yards you will notice an impact and group shift, for 3 gun should not be a problem.
  5. Now be nice Ok not all of the Peoples Republic needs to go, just from the San Andreas West. 30 days notice to NRA, USPSA, and IDPA members should be enough. JM2C
  6. I had this problem when I had an 18 lb. recoil spring in the gun, changed to a buffer and lighter springs 12.5-14 and hits got much better. I found that when seeing my front sight it would drop below POA, then up, then down again, just due to slide slamming home with heavy spring and subconscious muscle tension fighting it. How is your Bill Drill? Rhino; Same thing just lighter springs?
  7. Now all the fun with options. Barrel length and weight? Handguard type, color, and size? Sights? Weight of operating system? And thats just the upper?

After many tries got one to post.
  9. Has anyone noticed a difference on the cronograph of in burn rates from batch to batch of VV320 or other VV powders? I have seen small deviations in burn rate from differant batches of rifle powders like RL15, but am wondering about pistol powders specifically Vihta Vuori? See my changeover results 9 posts down.
  10. If you were asking about a tactical type AR I would say they were about equal, however the JP is hands down the winner for competition. Besides the support to the sport JP has, the light weight of the JP low mass operating system, the excellent JP trigger, the adjustable gas block, teamed up with the Bennie Coolie break make for a winning combo.
  11. I have a goal of A class by the next Florida Open, we will see what happens?
  12. Much to my chagrin I sometimes get a 357 Sig case mixed in with my 40's complements of the Airmarshals. I have expanded 2 of them, and neither of them would I trust for a reload, the necks had tiny cracks and buckles from resizing. Have learned to hate the caliber and don't understand the Airmarshals using them. And for the record, none I have talked with like them either and would have prefered 40's instead.
  13. If you are talking about Over All Length, use the length your gun likes and adjust powder and charge weight to power factor using a chronograph. Just be sure to use a powder that is compatible with length. Most manuals are written using a fairly short OAL to function in most guns, where in IPSC we many times we use a longer length IE 40S&W to function better in S-I's and to shoot softer by using fast powders. It is usually safe pressure wise to go longer, but presures go up quick going shorter.
  14. Clays is about the softest and cleanist 45 powder out there, softer and cleaner than Tightgroup, it is also dirt cheap. I have never had a metering problem with it in my 650 although my standard deviations are a bit high at 12-14, and it is not as accurate as 320 with my 200gr and 230 gr major loads. I still use it for 45 and reserve the 320 for my 40.
  15. A side benefit of Oneshot is you don't have to clean it off your cases, and it will help some hicap mags feed better.
  16. Is there going to be an Infinity Open this year? Have looked at Infinitys websight and done google searches and found nothing, I forgot to ask them at the Open and I need to make some plans.
  17. Lets not forget lots of those tough guys are 12 years old.
  18. Plate racks at 50+ yards. Who said no D?
  19. Don't think of it as a crimp, think of it as putting the case back into shape after belling, use just enough to ensure reliable feeding. You can destroy accuracy on just about any bullet using excessive crimp but plated seem even more picky. Case tension should hold bullet from setback even if it is not crimped, if it does'nt ether your resize die is not small enough or your expander and powder die is to big. I have found on Dillon powder dies that the expander is many times to big and needs to be polished down. When you have good case tension you will get more consistant powder burn, softer shooting loads and better standard deviations out of your loads. I have seen SD's go from 12-14 down to 6-7 just by increasing bullet case tension via EGW U die and polishing the Powder die.
  20. Plated bullets work great in some guns and shoot like a shotgun in others, it just depends on yours. I have a Kimber singlestack 45 that loves them but my 40cal. limited gun shoots JHP's much better. I have also found it takes just a bit less powder to make major with plated vs. jacketed.
  21. I agree, but at this point I am not going to fret about not winning HOA.
  22. This is just how I figured it would end up. We are a group of amatuers and pros trying to compete on the same playing field. The M and GM shooters that are trying for the big match win don't care about anything but the match win. They have practiced and worked there way up the class system and progressed to a level where they "stand a chance" at the HOA. I have held a Pro card in other sports and know the feeling. Without the class system I feel the sport would die off. How many times have you heard someone say "I'm competing against myself". This is bull, we compete to compete against others, otherwise its called practice. But guess what guys, if it was not for the D-C-B and A class shooters paying the bills at the matches and clubs there would be no matches or any place to hold them. The shooters that pay the bills should be recognised with trophies, plaques and ribbons, this will encourage newer shooters to stay competing, practice train and move up. I am working at improving, some say I am doing well. I am still along way from taking a match win away from someone like Travis, Eric, Phil ext....However.. This is an expensive sport no matter how you look at it. I have won a few plaques and trophies and these tokens have allowed me to show my wife, boss and friends the results of spending thousands of dollers on equipment and ammo. Its amazing that a $5 plaque will convince someone that the $2000 dollar gun you just bought and the time at the range away from home is worth it but it does. Ok if you are single and living the life of a hobbit you may think I am full of it but IMHO this is how all amateur sports work. When you get to the level of GM or even M you are getting out of the Amateur realm and starting to think and act like a Pro.
  23. At this years Florida Open the high Limited hit factors were, 6.68-9.10-6.45-5.48-5.42-8.03-7.92-7.93-6.97-7.28. This is at a match with not one no shoot, just some interesting target placement, hard cover and lots of movement. The D was there for all to find? or not
  24. As a middle of the road shooter I don't really want or need cash, lets face it why should a 1st place D-B shooter get more than the 4th place A shooter. What I think would be best is gift certificates for Bullets, Brass & Powder, to help improve our shooting, IMHO what we all really need is practice.
