  1. Is the match full? Looks as if all the unsquadded shooters will fill the open slots. If I can still get in I'll put my app in the mail.

    G34 springs

I ran a 13 lb ismi with the stock guide rod, then a buddy of mine gave me a steel guiderod with a wolff 14 lb round wire spring. I can't tell any difference, honestly. I ran both with a vanek trigger, so i can't really say what works with a stock striker spring.
  3. Have you tried heating it with a torch? I'm not sure your question will be considered a contribution, by the way.
  4. Will Friday shooters have access to the range on Thursday to walkthrough?
  5. Steve Anderson's first drill in refinement and repetition.
  6. Pretty sure "unclassified" is not recognized as a class. I could be wrong.
  7. I've been experiencing this for a while. I enjoy progressing more than competing. I would rather shoot 300-400 rounds in practice, and see an improvement in some aspect of my shooting, than to shoot a club match. I actually enjoy dry fire. Being able to notice with every session something got a little smoother, a little more efficient. I enjoy getting lost in the process, I guess.
  8. +1 on that. I pay 34.00 per thousand for 147s. There is NO jacketed bullet coming close to that price. Accuracy is as good as jacketed, and I can practice twice as much. I load with solo 1000, which doesn't smoke as bad as some powders, but there's still smoke. Honestly, the only time I notice it is if I'm shooting a classifier or some other type of stand and shoot stage where you engage a lot of targets from one position.
  9. My 34 was very accurate with the stock barrel and jacketed bullets. Once I started shooting lead, the accuracy suffered a little, but not really enough to worry me. My problem was every so often I would have one keyhole, so I bought a KKM from shooter's connection. The accuracy with my cast bullets is now as good as it was with the stock/jacketed combo. If you aren't shooting lead, I would stay with stock.
  10. Lot 2308, 4/5/12. I'm loading 3.8 grains @ 1.150 behind a 147gr cast bullet to make 133PF out of my Trojan. Probably not too bad for 100 degree heat, lol.
  11. Placement and angle are personal preferences, you'll just have to experiment. One thing i do, running four or five mag pouches for prod. or SS, is to put some adhesive velcro on the belt loops of my mag pouches and holster. That way, everything stays nice and secure.
  12. Welcome! Where in east tennessee do you shoot?
  13. My wilsons ran 100% for me in my trojan, but I switched to the dawsons simply because the wilsons are so hard to seat. So far, the dawsons have been great.
  14. Does Dawson make their own mags? They look a lot like metalforms.
  15. I would recommend Manny Bragg. I just did his two day class and learned a lot. The GMs are doing the same things you're doing, they just do them so much better! Having someone explain technique, and the nuances of what you should be seeing and feeling, is worth it.
  16. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm in a bit of a bind because we have Manny Bragg coming into town next weekend for a two day class. I know if I send it to sti, i won't have it back by then. I left an email for the warranty dept. yesterday, but today I went ahead and drove out the link pin to find out which link I had in the pistol(a #2). Everything looks good with the barrel, and lockup seems good, but the battery in my calipers is dead, so I can't measure the lugs to see if the link is maybe too short. Right now, I might just go back with the same link and see what happens, or try a #3. That is the standard size from what I've read. I'm going to measure tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I'll keep you posted. Thanks Again!
  17. Yesterday at a local club match, my 9mm Trojan malfunctioned. It would fire one round, but only cycle enough to half-cock the hammer. I could rack the slide, ejecting the spent case and chambering the next round, and fire again. Upon disassembly, I found the barrel link had broken where the slide stop pin goes through. This pistol is only about five months old, with around 5000 rounds through it. Anyone ever have this issue or have any idea of the cause. Would an improperly fitted barrel cause this? TIA for any help.
  18. I've been loading lead 147 gr. flat points @ 1.15 in my trojan with no issues. It runs just like a glock, lol. Maybe try a longer oal?
  19. You don't need ambis for steel challenge, and you'd just have to disengage the safety before transitioning to your weak hand if you're required to shoot weakhand in idpa. I usually do that anyway, it's just nice to have that safety to ride. I think with some good mags(wilson, tripp, or metalform), you'd be in good shape with a stock gun. Are you reloading yet? If not, I'd probably buy the glock and use the rest for a 550.
  20. I have a G34 and a 9mm Trojan. While it's true that glocks just keep running, no matter what, I can honestly say that my Trojan hasn't given me any problems. I think it comes down to the fact that I leave my guns stock, and don't really mess with them. The glock is definitely the more affordable of the two, but in my opinion shooting the Trojan is more fun. If you can, try to shoot both and see which one you like the best. Don't let all the stories of finicky 1911s sway you, a lot of people create their own problems. Good luck!
  21. I shoot ss minor with a bladetech kydex holster and four safariland 771 mag pouches. Go with whichever holster you like, but definitely go with the 771s!
  22. I was shooting production with a G34, and recently picked up a trojan 9mm to shoot in SS and idpa esp. I still have the Glock, though I don't shoot it much anymore. I usually have 4 mags on my belt, giving me 51 rounds at the buzzer. Even for high round count stages, you shouldn't need more than that.
