  1. Thought you all might enjoy a couple pics of the pin shoot I direct. The club I belong to had no real matches of any kind and due to their rules it is a pretty static range. So no run and gun stuff. They had zero pistol comps at all and after thinking about it awhile Pinshooting was an idea I brought to them for an event that worked for the range safety rules. Its grown and grown over the last year with some pretty good payouts. When I wrote the rules I made it a combination of second chance rules, IPSA rules and modified them to fit our range. Due to that being a big success Im in process of setting up Ruger rimfire challenge hoping it will gain interest into Steel challenge. Getting non competition shooters to try it is like pulling teeth though..
  2. Often pin shoots have a rimfire event in it.
  3. Very often one can see groups that are tight close up open up mid range and then tighten back in farther out as the bullet goes transonic. Not saying this is the case but is very good chance of it.
  4. When you get your chronograph, study up on deviation, I think that will answer most of your questions. Fast is fine but accuracy is final. You will mostly likely see your best accuracy a bit less then your highest velocity. Not always but its common enough to pay attention to. 50 FPS (or more) isnt going to make any difference in a hunting situation and an issue only with trajectory with extreme match BR shooting.Wont make any difference in field position shooting. Having confidence in knowing where your firearm shoots and I dont mean how tight a group although that is a happy side effect, but if it shoots 1 MOA EVERYTIME then its accurate. If its 2 MOA ect ect. Obviously less is better but my point is accuracy to me in match shooting is knowing its going to shoot the same every time no matter how large or tight the group is within reason for the intended use. Constancy and trigger time will create accurate groups.
  5. I struggled between buying blue or red as both are great presses so the deciding factor was auto indexing. I have had to call Hornady customer service a couple times for a part that was bent from my own user error and they sent me two new ones free even after I offered to pay AND a pretty cool Hornady poster. Another nice thing about Hornady is if you have a reloading question or whatever you can talk personally to the ballistition or the guy who actually engineered a particular powder or bullet and talk at long length about it. Not to mention their prerecorded messages are funny as heck.
  6. Is there a bulge in the neck? Appears there is which can mean your crimping BEFORE your seating and hence swelling the case neck. Simple die adjustment would fix that. Also to help with your expander and run out, you pull your expander ball out , stick it in a drill and use 1500 grit sandpaper to polish it up real good. This will allow a little less tension and drag on resizing. That lil trick was taught to me by David Tubb and I do it to all my expander balls no matter the die or caliber. It will also improve case life because your not moving the brass as much.
  7. I use a sharpie as well, once I have the ammo in box I run red line through them. One line for 230 gr , a "X" for 200gr and so on just so I can quickly dbl check Im into the right box or right mags. After awhile others at the range I compete with quickly learned what my brass looked like as well. Some use nail polish, some use other marking methods, another shooter uses a sharpie with a different color ect.

Probably the same amount that test their reloads into their own leg, never on purpose I bet! I just finished one up yesterday and got by without a knick, scratch or severed tendon
