  1. Bummer. I don't think I'll be able to shoot Saturday or Sunday. Come on up if things change for you. We'll make room! Thanks John. This is Paul Carlson. I was particularly looking forward to the match as a chance to catch up with old friends. I'm going to give it some time before I pull out. See if I can make something happen. Hi Paul, Was surprised to see your name in the entry list and was looking forward to seeing you. Hope you'll still be able to make it up here and shoot. Jim H Hey Mr. President. I was looking forward to making it up, but it isn't in the cards this time. Friday was my only opportunity. I'll have to try to make it up for a 2nd sunday match in the future! pc

  4. Thanks for the great topic Brian. The mind and the body are interesting things. In teaching one of my science classes I used to have a kid run across the room and pick up two mini basket balls one in each hand and run back across the room. we used a stopwatch so that we could measure speed after about five trials with a kid that could take a joke I would switch one of the basketballs with a basketball filled with sand. without fail the kid would run over grap the balls and the empty ball hand would shoot to the sky while the sand filled ball would stay put. we all got a good laugh, but it just shows how quickly we can allow our perception to fool us.
  5. I found this airsoft gun. seems cheap, versitile, and except fot the light rail, matches my gear setup prettywell. I especiallyliked the fact that with another mag itis co2 compatible. any thoughts?
  6. Tld - looks interesting. For fast upclose shooting, there is a technique called shooting the notch. instead of looking at the front post through the rear ap, you simply center the front post over the rear ap. this is faster than trying to aquire a picture through the rear and it also takes care of the the sight bore offset we deal with on the ar platform. your rear ap gives a reference point to help make shooting the notch more accurate, but im guessing that would be at a price of a touch of speed. in return you could extend the distance that you could shoot the notch. pc
  7. There is no doubt for a bit more money an ar is a better tool for many as accuracy and accessories are much easier to comeby than with the mini, that being said, got the ar realm covered and the mini fits the bill for a gun that goes bang no matter how you treat in and is accurate enough inside 100. Manual of arms is simple enough and it is a less imposing looking firearm. it can be handed to anyone that needs to shoot and it will work. For a bit more than half the cost of a basic ar, can be the right choice depending on the application. great buy! pc
  8. ok, so it seems that they are worth 450 - 500, but are selling for a bunch more. Thats kina what I was tring to find out. We will see how much we can talk em down. then its a matter of finding some mags as well...
  9. Hey guys - (mods: I thought this was the most appropriate location for this thread, I'll be happy to put it somewhere else if I need to, as I enjoy the +200 karma hit factor.) I bumped into a used ruger mini14 at a pawn shop yesterday and was surprised by the price tag of 550usd. At the time I didn't think to look for any details such as ranch rifle or not, but it was in decent shape. I'm guessing the value of these guns has increased recently along with other guns but how hard oes a used, blued, walnut stocked ruger mini14 impact your checking account these days? I may have to go back and do some more research on the gun, but thanks for your help. pc
  10. Helo all- I am considering the purchase of a Nordic 10/22 conversion. With out a doubt, this is a cool product, but I am wondering what your opinion is on a particular topic. How well do you feel practice with a Nordic modified 10/22 will transfer to shooting with the AR15 platform. Lets assume for this discussion that all options such as sights, stocks etc are identical. Why is this a good/bad training tool? What can you do to make it as effective as possible? What other tools should be considered as an alternative and why? Thanks for the input. pc
  11. Interesting story about these lights. I caught an interview on the radio today with the director of the trans siberian orchestra. The song in the video is called winter wizards and it is recorded by trans siberian orchestra. Apparently they got wind of this video on the web and did some investigating. Basic premis is a guy bought the lights and equipment so that the lights are timed to whatever music is played. This setup would elikesomething found at a fancy night club or at a rock concert. He added 16,000 strings of light and a 1 watt FM transmitter. He posted a sign in front of his house that says "please tune to XX.xFM and enjoy." You blast the music he is broadcasting from his home in your car and watch the lights flash perfectly in time. His neighorhood has been having a lights competition for years. This is the second year he has done this setup. He said the most noticeable reaction from the neighborhood is that his house was the only one with lights this year! Trans siberian orchestra was pretty impressed with the whole set up and apparently the concept includingtheir music is being considered by advertisers, so this might not be the last of you see. This guy lives in ohio.....Flex? I thought you folks might be interested in the real scoop. pc

    Family

This year has been particularly kind to me. Although I have moved away from some family to be with my fiance, I have grown closer to my family in general. At this moment I am in Atlanta, GA visiting my sister and I am feeling closer to my family than I have in years. I hope that the next 12 months help our family grow even closer together than we already are. For those of you that have had struggles with family in the past I hope that you are able to make progress in the next year to repair the imperative bonds of family. For those of you who are beginnning a new family, have the strength to base that family on solid principles that will lead to long term success. For those of you who continue to be sucessful with family relationships, use your family as an example to lead others toward more valuble relationships. Thank you to Shannon and your family for helping me to understand the importance of those who we are connected to by blood. There is no stronger bond... Happy Thanksgiving. pc

  19. I've recieved some complaints from people browsing my gallery that it is boring because it is the same picture over and oer with different people. Your post is why the gallery is there. It is only through a series of shots where the variables are controlled that we can really compare the pros and learn from them. thanks again
  20. According to your data kyle, I'm guessing that a zero of about 7 yards would also give you a zero at 65 yards.... Easier for me find a place to shoot 7yards this time of year than 65. pc
  21. Pierruiggi- flex is correct some ofthose shots are on the LAMR etc. Julie has completed her string Turtle is reloading Dave has completed his reload Robbie LAMR Robbie Reload Voight reload Voight Reload Travis Reload TJ reload Thanks for linking these pics. Keep in mind these are all standing reloads. Think of geometry. If the gun stays at eye level, it travels a slightly shorter distance, however the off hand with the fresh mag travels farther. Come down a bit both hands move an equal distance Come way down, gun hand moves a lot, mag hand a little. BALANCE. straight line from full extension to belt line, hands meet in the middle. Chest height see into the magwell...
  22. I like to use Aperature Priority. I choose the fstop and the camera does the rest. This lets me control the depth of field so I can keep the background out of fucus to highlight the subject. I set the ISO high enough to stop most of the action. These photos were mostly luck. I had only had the camera for a week prior to the match, so it was a learning exp. Thanks for yout positive feedback. pc thanks kyle. I will shoot you off an email in a bit re the video. pc thanks td
