  1. Unfortunately, unless it is a factory part from a Springfield gun on the approved production gun list, you are outta luck.
  2. As an update, apparently someone already used my gun's serial number to get the free mags before I submitted mine. Smith and Wesson could not provide any other info on this for confidentiality reasons, so I cannot pursue that issue any further. Smith and Wesson did send me two new mags anyway, which is really good of them considering the circumstances.
  3. AAARRRRGGGGG !!! I just received a response from Smith and Wesson customer service regarding my rebate / magazine slip that I submitted. The response was that the free magazine offer did not apply to used gun purchases. Imagine my shock when I read this. Either my dealer sold me a used gun under the impression that it was new, or Smith and Wesson has some really screwed up records. I obviously responded, and am awaiting a response back from Smith and Wesson. My dealer gave me the rebate slip to send in, and I seriously doubt he would have done that knowing the gun was used because he is a well respected dealer in the area.
  4. It has been said that no one truly dies until they are no longer remembered. Keep shooting that gun and your friend will live on.
  5. Off topic, but did anyone notice that Kelly seems to eat ALOT of cereal ? Almost every scene in the house he is slugging back a bowl full. Maybe thats the secret to his good performance..... like Popeye and his spinach. LOL
  6. To all of you guys using the Taylor Freelance extensions for your M&P's, do you have to modify your followers such as shortening the legs ? One of my mags I can get 23 rounds into (9mm), but it is difficult and practicaly impossible to reload into the gun with the slide in battery. My other mag I can only get 22 into, the 23rd just won't go in no way, no how. I am using the longer springs offered by SSS, not the factory springs. 22 rounds can be loaded into both mags without a lot of trouble, and are easy to reload into the gun. I have a third extension, just waiting on the mags from Smith and Wesson to put it on.
  7. One thing I have noticed is that some shooters who don't shoot classifiers well are the same guys who shoot long field courses well due to better athletic ability, in that they run faster than the average guys and they don't tire as quickly so there shooting is better on longer stages. I don't believe that classifiers always tell the whole story of a shooter's abilities when compared to how they can perform on field courses.
  8. I just pulled out my paperwork today, I sent my voucher in for the free mags on 5-6-2010. As of today, I have still not received them. I just sent Smith and Wesson an e-mail to see if there is a hold up. Hopefully, my paperwork didn't get lost in the mail.
  9. I thought the swinging targets at the elimination were really cool, especially with no shoots swinging in front of the shoot targets. I didn't get to really look at it with the way it was presented on the show, and I wonder if there was a pattern or sequence to it or if it looked like a random "mess" swinging back and forth. I would like to see something like this at a USPSA match, I think it would be pretty challenging.
  10. My rifle started shooting all over the place, and I noticed that the barrel had gotten a little loose. It was tightened up and the groups tightened right back up to where they had been. 3" at 50 yards is pretty bad, and not at all where an AR should be shooting. Re-check that barrel before buying a new one.
  11. To anyone who has gotten free mags from Smith and Wesson from one of there special offers when you purchase a new gun, how long did it take to receive them ?
  12. What clubs do you shoot at? Shoot me a PM some time if you want to shoot SS at a match. That way we can at least have another person in our division. We shot in the same squad at the last Topton match. I shoot at Topton and sometimes at York. I also shoot some of the Pa. Steel League matches that are at other clubs like Guthsville, Ontelaunee, and New Holland. In the off season I shoot some of the indoor IDPA matches that are within driving distance. I won't make the three man three gun this weekend.
  13. Pro2, We both shoot in the same area, and your right, not a lot of SS shooters at the clubs we shoot at. Even at IDPA matches in the area that I have attended, there really aren't a whole lot of 1911's being used in .45 cal. I often consider shooting single stack, and often look at stages when a shoot to try and figure out how I would shoot them with a SS. stage management does seem to be "challenging", to say the least.
  14. Note on the guide rods...... the longer guide rods, especially in tungsten, are heavier and they protrude slightly into the pocket in the front of the slide. They DO NOT protrude out of the pocket in the front of the slide, only slightly into it. I recall reading somewhere that the factory spring is supposed to be 15#. I have the 13# and 15# ISMI springs, and both do feel lighter than the factory spring, as others have mentioned. Based on the feel of my 13# spring, I don't think I would go any lighter than that. I have read posts on this forum of people using glock 34/35 springs in their M & P's with good results. Do a search and you will probably find those posts.
  15. UPDATE Before I had my EZ loader installed, I had just used it in a match and had 150+ rounds of grime in it. I also think that when I tested it after the EZ Loader was installed, I was using some fairly light target type loads when it was malfunctioning. I did not mention that every malfunction failed to kick the round out and it got hung up in the ejection port. I already threw away the box, so I am not sure what these rounds were. Yesterday I took the gun apart and cleaned it up and lubed it. I took it out today and ran some Walmart rounds through it, but these rounds were all purpose rounds with probably a heavier load and a higher charge. This is the same stuff I had been shooting before the EZ Loader was installed that would run in the gun no matter what. Today the gun ran every round I shot through it without a hiccup, and I ran a full box. It appears the EZ Loader was not to blame, as today it ran like a champ. My issue was likely a too dirty gun, too light of a load, or a combo of both.
  16. I recently had a DMW EZ loader installed on my 11-87. I ran about 25 rounds through it to test it out, and it was locking back the bolt several times during the testing. It wasn't consistent as to when it would lock the bolt back without feeding the next round as far as the mag tube being mostly full or mostly empty. For those of you with this part installed, is there a break in period required to get it to run 100%, or do I need to take it back to my smith ? This gun would run 100% all day long prior to installing the ez loader.
  17. Instead of modifying the stock XDm part, you could put on the slide release from the XD, which will fit and is flatter than the XDm part. Because it is an SA factory part from a production approved gun (the XD), it would be legal in production.
  18. In the most recent issue of Front Sight, I read with interest that Phil Strader is advocating using targets without "heads" in order to make USPSA appear to be more sport than defensive or militia type shooting, especially to outsiders or newcomers to the sport. What do you guys think ? Would anyone leave the sport if there was a switch to the classic target or a change to the current target to eliminate the upper scoring zone ? I gotta say that I agree with Mr. Strader on this point. I don't think that a switch to the classic target would hurt the sport or attendance. The rules already don't allow competators to dress in military type clothing, and I can only assume that this is because they do not want to portray the game as anything less than sport. Furthermore, are we making this sport less attractive to the parents of junior shooters who may not want there children shooting at a target with a head. I have heard the argument that the target doesn't look like any person anyone has ever seen. However, it is a humanoid shape, and if I had a dollar for every time I heard someone at a match refer to the upper scoring zone as a head, I wouldn't be going to work tonight. Opinions ?
  19. Nothing like taping targets and setting steel so that you can shoot.... as in taping and setting the last shooter's run so you can shoot next.... 'nuff said.
  20. i have one of these that I bought used for next to nothing. I cleaned it up and added a mag tube and it runs well. I use 100 round boxes of field and target ammo from walmart and have never had an issue, not a single jam ever. I did try to use the stock carrier release button, and it sucked to say the least. My gunsmith has it now and is installing an ez loader. If you are trying to go fast, the stock carrier release will seriously hold you back. Not sure how it would run with really light target loads. Recoil is light with the field and target loads that I shoot, and would not consider recoil to be an issue with this gun.
  21. I believe your right, non-members can only shoot local matches. question is, do you stop being a member as soon as your card expires ? is there a rule on how long you have to renew ?
  22. Decided to go with the M & P 9 pro, and picked up a new one at a decent price. I am gonna deck it out with SSS parts (which I just ordered) and shoot limited minor for a little while. I figured I can always grab one of the 40 pros when they come out, and swap the SSS parts to it and use the 9 for production. That way I will be shooting the same platforms in limited and production. I have been comparing my production scores to limited scores at recent matches, and I don't think that minor scoring will hurt me too much (fingers crossed). I am hoping the extra capacity helps me more than major scoring will..... time will tell. At any rate, it should be tons of fun, which is why I am in this anyway.
  23. To those of you with the SSS magwell on your M & P's, can you use any of the grip inserts or are they designed to work with only one grip insert ?The SSS website does not specify.
  24. I have the act-mags that came with my S & W, and they are decent and reliable, but...... I much prefer my Wilson mags. Others swear by Chip McCormicks, but I have no experience with those. If I was buying, I would take the drive to Cabelas and buy Wilson's, especially when Cabela's is giving away money again with their credit card offers.
