  1. Dave, You should check out Dean's M & P. The trigger was worked by Randy at the Handgunner and is almost scary light. Randy's trigger job on the M & P is pretty reasonable, too.
  2. I read a post in this forum a while back about using two of the barrel seals (o-rings)instead of one on the 11-87's to get improved reliability with lighter loads. I tried to find the thread, but now I can't. Is anyone using two seals instead of one or has anyone experimented with this? Can anyone report on their results?
  3. Good advice..... I was always amazed at how much group sizes change when all things are equal except for target size. Shoot small, miss small.
  4. I just had jury duty, and voir dire wasn't my fave......
  5. Almost two years ago, I purchased a Gunvault storage unit which I use to store my on- and off- duty pistols. This unit has four buttons on top, one for each finger, and allows you to create a sequence with the buttons to unlock the unit without needing to see it. Just rest your fingers over the buttons and enter your sequence, the door pops open electronically. As mentioned, I stored my both my on duty and off duty pistols in this unit, and I probably opened it at least four times a day, sometimes more, every single day. This is probably more use than this unit is supposed to see, as it seems to be designed to store a home defense gun securely but with quick access. In this intended roll, it is probably designed to be opened with far less frequency than I was using it. After nearly two years of service, mine broke, and the electronic lock failed. I could still open the unit with a key provided with the unit. I intended to replace it, but I gave Gunvault a call and described the problem to see if maybe there was a quick fix I could do instead of replacing the unit. With no questions asked, the customer service rep told me he would be shipping me a new replacement unit and a return label to return the broken one to them. My unit was well out of warranty, and they still replaced it, no questions asked. I was impressed !!! This is a great product made by a company that stands behind what it sells. If you are in the market, don't hesitate to buy one.
  6. Unfortunately, the holiday season often brings out the worst in people. This happens every year.
  7. Like pointed out in prior posts, unless the specific model is on the production approved list, you cannot use it in production. Also, in limited, you would be shooting minor even if you were making power factor because you need at least a .40 for major.
  8. SSS makes a brass magwell that can be ordered from their website. They have it in a black finish, but it chips under use as well. If you are worries about chips, they should have them unfinished in brass as well.
  9. I am using a Leupold VX-1 1-4 shotgun scope on my AR, and it works very well. I have a buddy using a similar Leupold AR specific 1-4 scope which is very similar. The shotgun scope is $200, the AR scope is a little more. I have recently read a good review of a Leatherwood Hi-Lux on this forum, but I have no experience with that scope. All are in the $200 to $300 neighborhood. How do you like the VX-1? As I consider scope options, I was thinking it not a bad deal to get one and have the custom shop add a BDC reticle to match my load and maybe change the paralax. That's not much more than $300 for the whole kit, if I go that route. I like the VX-1, optics are very clear. My only complaint is the zoom adjustment ring is a stiff. I have read other posts on this forum about someone changing the reticle in this scope to a BDC, and price was right around $279, if I remember correctly. Local matches here are only out to 200 yds., and the VX-1 works very well at that range. Not a true 1x when on that setting, though.

  11. Dave, My production gun is a 4" 5906 PC, if u wanna try it out sometime after a match, let me know.
  12. +1... Wind will move the lighter bullets more than the heavier .308. If wind wasn't a variable, the .223 would be good out to 700 yds.
  13. <Sig2009>You lost me there Bud! You were the one that brought up the accuracy issue at 25 yards when you said: "So I guess you don't care about accuracy out to 25 yards?". Then you go on to agree with with ck1 while taking an unnecessary jab at him. Where did I agree with him and jab him. Forget it. You guys must be new shooters. Let me try to explain. When you have adjustable sights on a gun you have the ability to change elevation and windage when shooting out to longer distances. If the gun shoots high or low or left or right you can adjust your point of impact. What is so hard to understand. With fixed sights you can't do that! I can't believe on a shooting forum I have school people on what adjustable sights are! How are 2" groups shot from fixed sights any less accurate than 2" groups shot from adjustable sights ??? If a gun with fixed sights can hit dead on with tight groups with the load you use, is there any reason to have adjustable sights ???
  14. You don't need a empty mag to release the striker, if you have long enough fingers. Rules say that the trigger must be pulled on an empty chamber. My gun has a decocker and I still have to pull the trigger to drop the hammer / striker at the end of the stage.
  15. I had this problem only the first couple times I loaded the mags up. I found a tip on this forum to firmly smack the base of the magazine while holding the mag straight up and down. I usually did this as I was loading the magazine, at the point where no more rounds would go in. Sometimes, I had to unload the mag and start over. As soon as I was able to load it up all the way a couple of times, I did not experience any loading problems again. I usually hit the magazine into my thigh or onto a wooden table. It doesn't need to be hit too hard. Hope this helps
  16. I thought I read something here about the Nevco's not being made anymore ??? I have Toylors, and I like them a lot.
  17. At club level matches, who else will GM, M, and A shooters shoot with ??? At our local matches, we frequently have lots of new shooters. If you put all the best in one squad and all the rest in another, I imagine this would bog things down even more with fast squads waiting till slow squads clear the stages. I agree with spreading everyone out as much as possible. Also, I frequently see really good shooters offering words of advice and encouragement to less experienced shooters, which is a good thing for the sport. Part of the fun of our sport is being able to shoot with truly great shooters in the same matches. If you play golf, what are the odds you can play the same match as Tiger Woods......

    Is this legal

I believe you will find that unless the gun you are converting is on the production list, anything you do to it will not make it legal for production. Converting your single action gun to a DA/SA still will not change it from what it was originally manufactured as. In the eyes of the USPSA, the SA model will always be an SA model, even if it is converted and contains exactly the same parts as an approved model.
  19. I put one of the CAA grips with interchangeable front and backstraps on mine, and I gotta say I really like it. I have big hands and with both large inserts, it fits pretty nice.
  20. I had an XD-9 Tactical that I was shooting in production, and I really liked it. It was even better with a Powder River Precision trigger job. I thought it was great..... except I am left handed and I found the slide release to be unfriendly for left handed shooters. Not a big deal for USPSA, but for me it became an issue in IDPA where I shot the gun to slide lock more often. I would probably still be using it if it wasn't for that slide release. This was an issue for me, and may not be an issue for everyone else. That is the reason I don't shoot an XD anymore.
  21. I agree that new shooters should be allowed to use a .22 to run through stages for no score for the first match to see if they like it. But, to allow a shooter to run every match with a .22 for financial reasons probably shouldn't be allowed. There are ways to play this game inexpensively, but sorry to say not on a .22 budget. Your local golf course wouldn't let you play with a baseball bat and a tennis raquet because that is all you can afford. Lots of hobbies are expensive, and ours is one of them.
  22. My grandfather was William Williams...... I also worked with two women with the last names of Bangs and Fuchs..... most unfortunate.
  23. I agree, Princess Bride is hilarious. I watch Office Space every time it comes on TV. Am I the only one that thinks this movie could be a documentary ? Everytime I get a new useless report to fill out at work, I refer to it as a TPS report...... and everyone gets the joke ! Must be a popular flick.
  24. Most of the matches I have seen advertised have better registration fees for early registration. I would also hate to drive a loooooong way to a match hoping for a walk on slot.
  25. For what it's worth, I installed the PRP easy fit match trigger in an XD. It wasn't difficult, but it wasn't fast either. I took my time and I believe I had a good result, much better than factory. The most difficult thing was fitting the overtravel stop, which wasn't difficult at all, just time consuming.
