  1. Well after a break to prepare for and shoot the Carolina Cup, and to avoid as much as possible the July and August heat, prop construction for the "Blade-Tech U. S. East Coast Championship" will resume next week. More new walls to build and target stands to rehab and build, and fine tuning the stages will be the order of the day for the next few weeks. One or two watered down/partial stages may be tested in this months regular IDPA matches. (I'm not sure about that though). With no targets beyond 15 yards accuracy at speed will take the shooter a long way in this match (doesn't it always). A well prepared shooter will have his/her complete game fine tuned, take some extra time on the practice range for some SHO and WHO, you're going to need it. Throw in some shooting on the move and you should be good to go. Apps have been coming in bunches lately but there is still room for yours. If you want to work the match make sure to indicate that on your app, or call Dean or Bev and let them know. The app is on the website www.caswellranch.com Facebook www.facebook.com/CR.PistolRifleRange?pnref=lhc All good matches have good sponsors and we have some of the biggest and best, we thank them all!!! 5. I’m back, with an update. A little more info on the stages, I’ve mentioned three of the key stages in the match, another is the truck stage. Standing at the front of the truck engage 6 targets with 2 body shots and 1 head shot with the first target at “bad breath” distance, the others are shot down either side and through the windshield and back window. The distance isn’t the problem the angles are. Another is the evil twin of the dreaded “Fuel Depot” only this time the barrels provide the cover and the targets are mostly behind the wall. Many good shooters took 30 to 50 seconds to shoot this one in its first incarnation. 9 targets with the possibility of seeing the same one from more than one location (this can really mess with your round/target count during the shooting (don’t ask me how I know). The stage I mentioned in my first post with the flash, swinger, static and 2 swinging no shoots has been made easier (I think) by eliminating the head shots on all the targets, instead all you have to do is put 4 rounds on each (wait a minute, now I’ve got 8 chances to hit the no shoots instead of 6). Two of the targets at the end of the wall have been eliminated to put the round count for this stage at 16. We have a stage that combines shooting on the move with low cover, and another stage is a house with a four way intersection and a round wall. Plan on shooting free style, strong hand only, weak hand only, backing up, moving sideways and sitting down (if you do a little dry fire while squatting that might not be a bad idea). On one stage you’ll pick up your gun from a table and load it before shooting, on another the gun will be in your hand loaded with 6 rounds. The others draw from the holster. 12 mandatory head shots, 6 of them weak hand only. I was going to give an extended weather report but who the heck knows maybe if we all close our eyes and click our heels together three times the sun will shine, as they say on TV it’s only weird if it doesn’t work. Only three days remain to get a spot in the match. http://caswellranch.com/ https://www.facebook.com/CR.PistolRifleRange?ref=profile Rowdstar don’t forget the sunshine and warmth you promised. Van
  6. The NC State match is only 17 days away and Mother Nature is proving to be a mother f….. The average high for us this time of year is in the low to mid 50’s with an average high of 53 in mid-February, recently most days have been 10 to 35 degrees below average, not conducive to building props and generally making ready for the match. I sure hope the weather improves, nevertheless we will prevail and the match will happen, we might not get everything done we wanted to but rest assured it won’t affect the stages at all, maybe some of the “eye candy”. The weather gave us a break earlier this week and we got a key stage set up, you’re gonna’' love this one. Standing on a triggering box looking through a window on the beep step off, draw and shoot the first three targets using cover with 2 to the body and 1 to the head, simple right? Did I mention the first target is a flash, the second is a swinger and the third is a static? Still not too bad until you throw in a double swinger with 2 non threats in front of the target swinger, all moving at different speeds, oh yeah at least one of the swinging non threats passes in front of the static target. If you’re still have bullets left after that move down the wall and engage 3 more targets using cover with 2 to the body and 1 to the head for 18 rounds. Lots of hard shots on this one, good luck. He has an 18 round standards stage that will have you shooting free style, strong hand only, and weak hand only. Just for old times’ sake the match includes a stage with a moving reload (yes it’s legal). The dastardly round wall will return for another 18 rounder in bay 1 (hint-every movement forward puts you behind a different piece of cover). This one has 2 movers also but they’re easy (yeah right). For those of you that are going to have tax issues this April he mentioned something about a jail stage with bars and handcuffs. As the build continues I’ll drop in with more updates We still could use a few more good SO’s, this is a great opportunity to shoot a high level match just before the S&W Indoor Nationals for not much more than travel expenses. Give Dean or Bev a call, their info is on the website. Bev’s cell # 919-805-0352 http://caswellranch.com/contact-us/
  7. Rowdy, the shooter list should be out in a week. As for stages practice fundamentals, tight shots, distance, weak hand shooting and you'll be in good shape. Van
  8. The N. C. State match is less than a month away and things are shaping up, the stages are set and prop construction is underway. Of course a little fine tuning of target and no shoot placement won’t happen until the day before the SO’s shoot on the 14th. Local shooters will have two matches this month to get some last minute practice. Applications are coming in daily (a couple from California) as people’s plans for the match season are firming up and thoughts of qualifying for this year’s National Championship take shape. Accumulating points for the Nationals can be an expensive proposition, working a sanctioned match can save you a high dollar match fee. If you would like to work this match give Dean a call at 919-805-0370. Check out the website: http://caswellranch.com/ Or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CR.PistolRifleRange?ref=profile Rowdy, looking forward to having you shoot with us, bring lots of sun and warmth. 9. Viewed from the back of the gun the left side comes off first.
  10. I stopped in at Caswell Ranch today and got the 411 on the East Coast IDPA Championship it’s kinda like this. Sleeping in bed before the workday starts you hear the screams of your wife from the opposite end of a maze of walls and windows, you enter the maze and fight your way thru to rescue her only to wake up and find it was all just a nightmare. Later, on the way to work with your nerves on edge you stop for gas and find gang members have robbed the gas station and have decided your car will make a dandy getaway car. Defend yourself and keep your car. You finally make it to work and stop to pick up the mail when the rival gang from across town thinks they want your mail (and the checks in it) more than you do, you prove them wrong! This is turning out to be the morning from hell so you have your secretary make an appointment with the Doctor to get a prescription for Valium (to help you sleep) and Viagra (in case you can’t), it looks like your luck is changing and you get an appointment for that afternoon. After entering his office you start to sign in only to find the nurse a hostage and his friends ransacking the place for narcotics. Do what you have to and see the Doctor. The gunfight at the Doc’s office bought you a bullet in your strong arm and a cast so you decide to take the rest of the day off and rest at home, but there is no rest for you today as more bad guys are trying to break in it’s a good thing your gun is close, shoot them and get back to watching TV. You emptied the pill bottle last night so today looks like a trip to the strip mall for a refill and a quick visit with the Dr. to get the cast removed (it turned out to be a flesh wound without a broken bone). With your refill in your pocket you notice more unsavory dudes that you don’t want to turn your back on so you back out and bad guys start popping up everywhere, shoot your way out and to safety. Arriving home after the excitement at the strip mall you’re wondering what else could possibly go wrong when an ominous glow in the evening sky proves to be an EMP strike rendering all things electrical useless including your well pump but not the old pickup in the back yard. The Mrs. sends you out to crank up a bucket of water from the well when it all goes bad…..again!! Protect yourself and keep your truck. If ever a man deserved a break it is you, but not today, after saving your truck a family picnic seems like a good idea so out to the side yard you go where you find the crew of the plane responsible for the EMP strike has landed after bailing out of their plane which was shot down after dropping the bomb. Take care of business and finish the potato salad before it spoils. After expending so much ammo lately you decide to go to your outside shop and get your bow and arrows in shape for the evening hunting trip, a noise in the back has you picking up your gun and checking out the window, wouldn’t you know it more bad guys. You know the drill, just do it. The day is almost over when you remember the truck needs gas, so off to the storage depot you go with your gas can in your hand and then it all goes bad. These guys hide in some unexpected places be careful! Dean thinks there are more bad guys to be dispatched but he wouldn’t talk about it, just kept mumbling something about a “remote location”. I’m cleaning my gun just in case. Van
  11. Sept. 14, 2013 at Caswell Ranch There's an app on the website, print, fill it out, include a check, and drop it in the mail. Or call Dean or Bev and let them know or just ask a question. Dean tells me there will be a stage or two with props he has never seen before, and he has seen a lot of stages! This will be a good big match "tune up" for anyone going to the nationals the next week. And a big thanks to Brownells, Dardas Bullets, and Wilson Combat for being match sponsors. caswellranch.com
