  1. Geek ... if you're looking for .223 bargains, you should frequent AR15.com in the ammunition forum. Those guys are up to speed on prices and availablity of just about everything. You should be able to find AE223, PMC, or UMC, USA, or Ultramax in the $3-3.25 per box in 1000 round cases if you look around.
  2. I might die in the process, but given how long I've gone "without," it would be noteworthy demise. It might frighten the faint of heart and would easily disturb all but the most jaded of adults. And Young Master Jake ... you have no need to be shopping around, even in Fantasy Land. I'm still considering putting a small curse on you, but the feeling is waning.
  3. I've shot a couple of thousand rounds of S&B .223 with zero problems. It's reliable, as accurate as most comparable bargain ball ammo. I only use it for punching paper, though, because even though the box claims it's M193-spec ammo, the jacket is copper-washed steel. That means it won't fragment at any velocity (if you're concerned about terminal ballistics). It should easily make minor PF in a 14.5 inch gun. Another concern is that it might not be a good idea to use on steel, especially where it's dry and brush fires are a potential hazard. The steel jacket can make some impressive sparks on a steel plate, especially at night! I don't think it will actually damage any steel target rated for rifle fire, though, but it's something to consider. I've shot a ton of S&B .45ACP. It's my 230gr ball of choice when the price is comparable to other stuff. Reliable and again, as accurate as any other similar 230gr ball ammo. I've shot a few hundred rounds of S&B 9mm with zero problems as well. For what you get (for the pistol ammo), it's hard to find a better bargain. The .223 is good for what it is. Whose class are you doing? I'll be in a Pat Rogers and a (repeat of) Louis Awerbuck this summer.
  4. Would you believe they were White Castles?
  5. I'll try to let you know the next time he's in your area. I looked at his web site a few days ago, and it had no personal appearances listed.
  6. DPMS sells new 20rd mags for $19.95.
  7. I could be wrong ... I only used the trust Mk I eyeball and no precision measuring tools!
  8. I think I exhausted my reserves of false bravado on the 22 pounder discussion!
  9. Dude, you're totally a better shooter than he is!
  10. This weekend ... No rain or snow predicted! It'll be a three gun extravaganza! As soon as design some stages!
  11. You guys are the first group I've seen that narrow the front specifically to get more light on either side. The reason I narrow the front sight is so it won't obscure as much of the target at 25 anf 50 yards. For focusing on the front sight, I wonder if the smallest ghost ring/aperture rear might help. I suggest this because when you switch apertures on an AR, the front sight post and/or a red dot will always look sharper and more in focus when you use the smaller aperture.

I don't know about Bul, but they're already doing them for Para. The .45 mags hold 13 and are just a little shorter than factory Para mags. Hmmm ... I wonder if Entreprise will start making their guns again, now that magazines aren't a problem.
  13. We should have that made into a postcard and mass mail them to PETA, the Brady Group, and a variety of other troublesome organizations.
  14. Oof! <rhino goes down on one knee, the virtual wind having been knocked from him by a solid gut punch> I can't argue with the truth. I can't move fast enough to be a threat to win major matches, but if I practiced all the time I spend online, I'd be able to shoot most classifiers as well as anyone else. Decisions ... decisions ... Hey, a guy has to go with his strengths.
  15. I have an idea. Why not get a 9mm barrel with a bushing fitted in addition to whatever kind of .38 super barrel you're going to have fit? You can then use the 9mm for IDPA and practice on the cheap, but when you need to drive some tacks, go with your home brewed loads and the .38 barrel. You'd have the best of both worlds.
  16. I don't know if it's accurate to say an alloy frame "can't" be fit to a slide, but I do think whatever fit you get won't last as long. In the case of my carry gun, the first 14,000 rounds I put through it made it pretty loose. I think the problem is that the surface of the alloy frame (an Aluminum oxide from the anodizing) is very abrasive, and it wears away at the steel of the slide. I could be wrong, but that's the way it looks to me. Rails would solve the problem. You'd have steel-on-steel contact, and with proper lubrication, it should last a long time.
  17. I've met two people in my life that I know for certain could kill me with their bare hands. One was Louis, and the other was Dick Marcinko. I fear them.
  18. If you're going to reload (which the original message indicated was a "yes"), then the super wins hands down. You'll have few reliabilty problems both with the gun and the magazines. If you don't reload, the cheap 9mm ammo makes the 9mm 1911 a winner. That's why I chose it.

    Bul-M5

As Cousin BulM540 mentioned, the current Kimber frames are not Bul Transmark products. Although, it is my understanding that they use the same magazines.
  20. I think both! After seeing "Reservoir Dogs," he convinced me that he was not acting!
  21. Maybe he got ahold of one of the South American frogs I've been prone to licking lately?
  22. Okay, I voted for the boy. My natural inclination was to vote for the photo featuring the hottest chick, but for once I did the right thing and displayed some loyalty for the team. Good luck to young Master Suber! It's an excellent photo and I'm sure it captures quite a few very happy memories. Heck, I should have entered if I'd known about it ... I could have done a photo of me with my SWFA-acquired EOTech on Mary Alice while we decimate hordes of spikey-haired mutant cannibals and an assorted zombie or two.
  23. You could hammer and peen her fingers until they are longer ... then you won't have to tamper with that "Glock Perfection."
