Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks to everyone who answered. I ordered 3 of the Blade tech doubles with tec loc. Ron
  2. I finally purchased a cr speedbelt and want to mount less expensive verticle double single stack mag pouches. It seems like the thick belt might be a challenge to use beltloop type holders. My leather ones sure won't work very well. Anyone have experiance with this setup?
  3. There are some good articles on bifocal pistol sight problems, noline will cause you to bob your head around. When you bend forward you are looking over the top of the bifocal. What I have are single vision lens. The lens are my distance vision on my non-dominant eye and the same on my dominant +.75 diapter. You only need enought to clear the front sight. The less that works the better. My optometrist had never made these before, but he sure understood the concept. He ordered them tinted yellow and I furnished some frames. $80. They are great.
  4. I have a 10/22 for use on steel and critters. Any input on type and brand of red dot appreciated. Tube vs. Open?
  5. 3.5g wst, 147g rnfp with OAL of 1.13 produced stovepiping in my Springfield 1911 9mm. The same pistol is handling 124g with 4.0 231 pretty well with oal of 1.12 and. That later load won't make minor. I am going to try 3.8g on the wst with some at 1.12 and a batch at 1.13. There is sure conflicting data on this powder.
  6. I appreciate the advice. I returned it and ordered a Caspian. The element is is .6 instead of .4. I will probably still try to make a larger dot. I love the Novak which is almost .8 , but they don't make it for the Heinie/sti dovetail. thanks again
  7. I am looking for a accurate 9mm load that makes minor in 5 inch govt using 147 gr lrn with WST powder. I appreciate any help.
  8. I have a couple of 1911 pistols and a conversion that all have the Dawson fiber optic front. I have another one that is my favorite, with a Novak fiber optic that has the large element <.8 While I don't know that the others could go that large, I have been tempted to drill the Dawsons out and install .6 elements. Has anyone had experience3 with this modification? thanks.
  9. I am looking for a plain black fixed rear sight for my 1911 Colt with a Novak cut. I use this pistol for USPSA. I purchased a Hienie Ultra low mount which is a nice looking sight, but apparently too low to pair with a F.O. front. I installed an old front sight for milling and am still filling for POA. I am down to .160 and still over 3" low POA. I guess I will end up about .140 or even less. I want a normal height sight to end up about .180 on my front which is a Wilson cut. I was looking at Ed Brown fixed or a taller Hienie rear. What ever I get, I will probably try to fit an old front sight to determine height, before I order the front fiber optic. I don't understand why they have so many different front dovetails for 1911s or why a manufacturer wouldn't know the exact front sight height to pair with his rear sight. Any recommendations?
  10. I have shot about 500 rounds through my Colt super .38 turned Wilson 9mm ramped. The pistol runs great with the oringinal colt super mags or with the Wilson Combat 9mms. Accuracy seems great and firing the light recoil 9mms seems to have improved my shooting with my Kimber .45. The Colt definately shoots smaller groups than my Glock 34, which has a much lighter trigger than any of my 1911s.
  11. I believe that the Kimber tactical 9mm uses a ramped barrel. If so, you would have to have the frame modified according to which type of cut that they use on their barrel. If you want to be able to switch the kimber back to .45, you might get a Fusion or Caspian upper with a non ramped barrel. I just had a Colt Super .38 converted by Wilson. They use a ramped barrel in 9mm also. Shooting a 9mm 1911 has sure improved my shooting with my Kimber .45
  12. Thanks for all the input. I went for a ramped Wilson barrel and should have the pistol ready in a couple of weeks. As for trading the Colt for a Kimber, it won't happen.
  13. The fiber optic is not good indoors, but can't be beat in direct sunlight. You have the best of both worlds with the Laser Grips and F.O.
  14. I have a Colt .38 Super 1911 that I am wanting to convert to 9mm. The almost new Colt has been modified so I have no qualms about converting it. I shoot enough that .38 super would get expensive, wvwn with reloading. I am already setup to load 9mm ammo and it is sure cheap, easy, and comfortable for an old guy to shoot. I have been advised to get a ramped barrel for reliability. I don't believe that losing the use of the stock .38 colt barrel is a big deal. I am sure interested in learning as much as I can before taking this step, so I have several questions: 1) is ramped the way to go in a 9mm 1911? 2) Stainless vs. ordinance steel? 3) I am looking at Schumann, Kart, Nowlin, and Wilson in the ramped barrels. I am in Arkansas so I would probably let Wilson do the conversion, if I went with their ramped Match Barrel. Does anyone have experience with their barrels? I wonder who makes them? 4) Nowlin is about the same distance but I am not sure they are presently doing smith work? Any info or suggestions are welcome. Ron Hall
