Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. We have a group of guys locally (here in Oklahoma) that put on the "High Cap Hose Down" once a year or so just for fun. 60+ round stages. lol. this match is like a regular USPSA match with the volume turned way up. Always a great time! This video is the match winner from the first HCHD.
  2. I started shooting open in USPSA in the last couple of months and am having a blast! I only got the open rig because a buddy was selling it and the deal was too good to pass up, and because it was 9mm major. lol. I switch between the open gun for pistol matches and and .40 limited blaster for 3 gun with no problems. The first thing I noticed when going to open was that all the bells and whistles were not a cure all for bad habits and do not, in and of themselves, make a shooter better. lol. It's taken a few months but I'm finally feeling like an open shooter and feel like I'm as good open as limited. I find that the dark side suits me.
  3. Try J&K Bullet Casters in Moore, Oklahoma. Thay make a great .40 200 grain hardcast bullet and usually have them in stock ready to ship. J&K facebook page.
  4. I will definitely agree with the notion that a speed holster is not vital to 3-gun performance. My use of the SpeedSec is due to the fact that I use the same holster for everything, not necessarily because I think it's extra fast but becuase it fits all of my competetive pistols. I also believe that this is holster is secure otherwise I would not be using it. I am a big fan of similar gear as often as it's possible.
  5. My 3 gun rifle weighs a shade under 7 lbs. with EoTech. This gun is a 16" rifle with light weight Lilja/Nordic barrel, JP comp, JP LMOS, and Clark Carbon HG. It's nothing super fancy but has become my favorite rifle and runs like a champ!
  6. I've had pretty good luck running long 9mm ammo (1.185" AOL) in STI mags in my open gun without spacers in 140mm mags. I would agree with Sarge in that the reliability is not good enough to bet my life on though.
  7. I use a SpeedSec holster for limited and open in both USPSA matches and 3-gun. I get to use one holster for everything I shoot with multiple guns. The thing I like best about this rig is that the gun is locked and not going any place until you actually draw. I unlock the holster on the draw and have had a few occasions where re-holstering hot was required and worked out fine. I find this setup to be solid and also doesn't break the bank. I'm a big fan of keeping gear simple and not changing things anymore than absolutely necessary. Here's a quick picture of this holster at work in a 3-gun match. As you can see I'm a finely tuned athletic machine. lol...
  8. This idea souonds suspiciously like a way to get spousal approval for a match/vacation to me... lol. When you're JT, there are no bad ideas.
  9. I was lucky enough to get to shoot the January 8th match at 3MR. The 3MR crew puts on a great natural terrain match with a good mix of challenges for all three guns. Big thanks to everyone that puts in work on this event!
  10. I was having some similar probelms recently with some new SVI mags. I eventually discovered that the follower was hanging up on the slide stop. After a little sanding on the follower it drops free nicely.
  11. I'm new to open and 9 major and would like some advice... I recently got my first open gun and have shot a couple matches using load data that I got with the gun. I shoot with the previous owner every weekend and have seen this combo in action for a few months now. 124 grain MG FMJ 8.0 grains of True Blue AOL 1.185" Small pistol primers mixed brass After some reading here it looks like this length is possibly a little long. The reason I'm wondering is that I chrono'd this load today and was getting 167 PF (temp was 35-40 degrees) I'm not sure what to expect but this PF seemed a little low. This got me to wondering about the possible temperature sensitivitey of the True Blue. I'm still new enough to open to not really have an opinion as to how much the gun is moving, it's quite a lot differnt than the limited setup I was shooting. lol. Either way I'd really appreciate some opinons on this data and advice on any changes that might help. Thanks in advance, Rusty.
  12. John is one of the most down to earth and hard working guys I've ever known. As others have said, he'd give you the shirt off his back if you neede it. I'm also hoping for a speedy recovery for him. Interesting side note about John. When I first met him he was recovering from and injury to his right arm and had spent a season shooting left handed. lol. I don't they they come tougher than this guy.
  13. Was this at the Old Fort USPSA match? If so, I was on this sqaud and that was the strangest thing I've ever seen a 1911 do. It didn't seem to hinder the shooter but it would've distracted me to no end. lol... In the first match I shot with my current limited gun the two piece guide rod came unscrewed and shot out of the front of the pistol on my last target. Didn't hurt anytihng and the piece of steel I was shooting at fell but it did scare me a little. Seeing pieces of your gun flying downragne is a little wierd.
  14. I would definitely shoot full size, wide open poppers from 1 and 3 at 25 yards. It's confidence thing for me at that distance with steel, they're either hit or not with no doubt.
  15. Something else to consider when trolling CL for a jogging stroller for 3 gun duty... Look for a stroller with a pivoting front wheel. When the cart is fully loaded down and heavy the pivoting front wheel will make turning the cart super easy. A fixed front wheel means pushing the handle down to manuver and will lead to broken a handle at some point, this was what led to the demise of my first cart. lol.
