Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks. I should have asked Vince instead of Bill, I guess. Don
  2. I do not have the course handy. I have requested it, but have not received it yet. If I get it soon I will get it to you. Don
  3. You should do fine. I shot in front of a friend and got my letter. I then took phase 1, for the same reason you are. If you get the 540 during phase 1, you have automatically met the qualification for phase 1 and 2 - PRESSURE IS OFF and your scores go way up. All of the instructors were told that phase 1 would be the 4 100's out of 7 attempts, so that is what we spread to get officers ready. I did not find out that we were sticking with PPC until a meeting CLEET had with us in February - it was supposed to be January, but snow kept shutting it down. You might check yourself on the Smith backup course (needed for ALP phase) once in a while also. I don't think it is very hard - just different from the norm, but I have seen some instructors struggle with it. Don
  4. Sitting was the worst for me. I have a rather "round" profile and was not able to get into "standard" sitting positions. A lot of experimenting and breath control got me through. The rules on the autos are varied (maybe the best term I can think of). It is the first time they are allowed and, I imagine, some rules will be modified before the next group of candidates participate (2011). The staff feels very strongly that the revolver is needed as a foundation for the proper progression through the varios phases of the program. The Council does not care what the staff or other instructors have to say about the matter - they want wheelguns gone. I am hoping to get to come up for several days of phase 1 and 2. I hope to see you there (with a 540 long before the Friday of that week). Don
  5. Hell, I'm just glad to see someone planning on using the wheelgun to go through. Since the course was modified, it seems thta all the guys I have talked to plan on using bottom feeders. I have yet to find a bottom feeder that performs better than my wheelgun for PPC. Good luck. Get that 540 out of the way on the first relay! Don
  6. I just recently joined the forum at a friend's suggestion. I cannot believe all of the information that is available here - and from friendly/helpful folks to boot! I was referred here due to some reloading questions I had, but am really interested in trying one of the shooting sports I keep reading about. I am really looking forward to my time here. Don
