  1. Flexmoney...when I am ready to make a part purchase, I usually hit all the usual places...ie, Midway, Brownells, Numrich, even Gunbroker (got some killer deals on part here)...if they are a no go, I just call up Ruger parts department, tell them what I am looking for and they have shipped them to me (if they are in stock). With that said...again, I have never purchased a frame (doubt they would sell one anyway), nor have I ever purchased a barrel or complete trigger guard assembly. But, springs, pins, hammers, hammer dogs, etc. I have sometime over the past 2 or 3 years purchased them.
  2. Also...about the whole "stingy" about the spare parts thing. I have purchased from Ruger, just about every part for my Security Six that you could think of...other than the frame itself In fact, I have completely rebuilt two Security Sixes...rescuing them from be rusted piles of junk
  3. Flexmoney & Toolguy...thanks for the responses...I really appreciate it
  4. Can you achieve the same desired affect by bobbing the hammer on a Ruger GP100 and/or Security Six?
  5. Absolutely agree with Rotorwrench...with that said, I would add "The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide" by Walt Kuleck to your list of reference material
  6. I have to go by there soon to buy some carry ammo anyway... Actually, they might have some other option that I've overlooked, too... But they're not going to have the psuedo-tacklebox option, which is what I was thinking about with Cabela's... That's a good point...they may not have the configuration you are looking for. Another idea/option might be to swing by a HobbyLobby or Michael's Craft store...they have a number of tackle-box like storage options available. Just not sure how "tough/robust" they might be
  7. Dave...you might try taking a trip down to GT's. They carry an assortment of the Pelican type of cases in a variety of sizes/shapes (at least they did the last time I was down there). And it's certainly closer than Cabela's
  8. When trying to figure out a good load for 38 special (revolver)...I tried several different powders and ran into the same issue every time...excess unburnt powder. Except for TG...really leaves nothing behind And I am running lead...haven't really had an issue yet with my first 1500 rounds.
  9. A quick trip to Home Depot or Lowe's...found a "damaged" kitchen/bathroom cabinet for $35 (two door and drawer model). Then went to the counter top section...found a scratch and dent top for $25 that was 5 ft...which provided plenty of overhang to mount the press. Purchased a few screws/mounting hardware...and I was out the door with a reloading bench (some assembly required, batteries not included) for well under a $100. Works great...with plenty of storage!
  10. I agree with all the comments regarding the stock sights that Glock insist on using. With that said, after trying several different combinations...I have found (at least for me) the best combination to be Dawson fiber optic front with a stock rear sight. Again, it's all really personal preference
  11. Thanks guys...these are all fantastic recommendations and things to consider. I definitely with "test" out the rounds I have loaded up, to ensure reliability of igniting. Love the thought of "learning to count to 6". Shooting Production...you are correct about needing to be "strategic" with stage approach/plan. Having 6 shots will definitely create new challenges! Again...thanks to everyone...I am getting excited
  12. Actually, that is a good point. The round I loaded up were definitely round nose...however, I was actually considering looking at or considering Wad-Cutters for my next batch. With said, I ended deciding that may not be such a good idea from a loading perspectived. Round nose has to be easier/faster to "find" the proper orientation to the cylinder during a reload situation. Regardless...thanks to you...and to all the others that have replied. Some good stuff here!
  13. That's a very good point! Actually, I have shot and loaded .38/.357 for a number of years...but, primarily for "plinking" and just target practive...never for running/gunning a stage. With that said, I may just have a bunch of "practice" rounds if they don't work out
  14. Thanks for the insight, Bubber. I typically shoot out of central Texas (Austin area). Primarily out at the Austin Rifle Club (ARC) and Best of the West ranges.
  15. Started shooting USPSA about 2 years ago...strictly as a "hobby." Have classified in Production, Limited, and Single Stack divisions...figured this year I would give the Revolver a try! My personality is that I typically "walk" a little different path...so, even after spending the last several weeks looking at the 150 pages of posts out on the Revolver forum and just about everyone going with S&W...I have decided to go with a Ruger Security Six With that said, the cylinder and moon clips should be arriving from TK's this week...I have a Woff Spring set on it's way...an Austin Moon Clip Server has been ordered...internal trigger/components have been polished to a mirror finish...I purchased a Safariland holster...and I have pre-loaded 1000 .38spl rounds. Anything I am forgetting???...and last minute advice (other than get a S&W) that the esteemed revolver shooters might have for a newbie?
  16. +1 on Tripp magazines. I just ordered a couple more from their website about a month ago.
  17. Keep it simple...shoot it and then make changes along the way. Over time, you will find out what you like and don't like. For example, I have tried several different sight combinations (and a couple hundred dollars later)...my favorite ended up being stock rear and dawson fiber optic front. My vote would be to invest in ammo, good holster, mag pouches, and shoot the crap out of it!
  18. I have been MB now for about a year...gone through ~4000 125gr 9mm with absolutely no issues. As far as the company itself...always nice/pleasant to work with. Talked to them a couple of times, when I had a few questions...and my order always arrives within days of placing it.
  19. +1 for Missouri Bullet Company. Great communication, great customer service, and speedy to ship/deliver.
  20. Really, a multi-gun match the day prior in Parma? Darn it...not enough time to plan/arrange for bringing the rifle and shotgun with me. I would have really enjoyed a multigun match prior to the big Glock Match.
  21. +1 for Loki Weapons systems. Give Erik a call...they will walk you through the process. Just received my complete Upper from them...outstanding workmanship and great customer service!
  22. One vote for Eric at Loki Weapons Systems
  23. A stack of cheap paper plates have always been my favorite targets
  24. Watching this thread with some interest...as I just picked up a 1911 in 9mm this week. Looking to shoot SS and was wondering if there are any "restrictions" around the type/size/weight of the magwell that can be used. Thanks!
  25. Welcome Jerry! I actually spent a good majority of my childhood (and some adulthood) in the Boise area...so, I know it quite well. About 8 years, we moved to the Austin, Texas area (for work). Started shooting USPSA at local matches around here about year and a half go. It can be very addictive Maybe we will bump into each other, one of these at the range...I plan on shooting a couple of matches this year in Idaho (along with visiting family). Anyway...lots of great information and very knowledgeable folks out on this forum...it's a great place to learn and share. Keep your powder dry and shoot straight, my friend...cheers!
