  1. DPMS .308 Del-ton .223 Tactical Solutions .22
  2. It takes practice, that's all. Just today, in fact, my friend and I were teaching a newbie for his first foray into competitions and this very thing came up. He was seeing double images and didn't know which one to shoot. One trick is to put a piece of scotch tape over your shooting glasses of your non-dominant eye. After a while (a "while" meaning weeks or longer), your brain figures it out and it's second nature.
  3. I carry the little benchmade at work and whenever I go to CA and the big benchmade the rest of the time.
  4. Does the powder checker check for both double charge and no charge, or just one of them?
  5. I had the same problem with my home made kydex holsters where I made the tolerances too tight around the slide. The solution was to open the holster up by reheating around the slide to produce more play. But for a commercially available holster, I'd give the manufacturer a call.
  6. Thanks. Those photos are VERY good. I especially like the glock with the snow falling around it.
  7. Not the typical "shooting" question for this forum, but what shutter speed are you using to catch the shots in Post 88 above? It appears you've caught the bullet in a few of them.
  8. Here's my experience with the factory barrel versus aftermarket. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141892
  9. Technically, acetone does leave a residue, but you're not making semiconductors so it's probably not going to matter. It's also an extremely good solvent and as such can strip off paint and damage some plastics. Isopropyl alcohol is gentler on things and would probably be a better solvent to use.
  10. Very nice work especially for not having any real machining tools. Also nice photography.
  11. Yeah, I don't think I need a C clamp for mine either, except that I hang the dillon bin from the big akro and I'm always grabbing brass from it. Didn't want to disturb it and end up with 200 rounds of ammo scattered across the floor. On a side note, I'm kinda surprised my dillon bin hasn't dumped my empties on the ground yet, but it hasn't moved.
  12. I got them here: http://www.srstactical.com/communications/electronic-ambient-listening-headsets/msa-sordin-supreme-pro*x/75302*x.html Pretty much the only place on line that had the pro x.
  13. Well this is a useful thread for me as a newbie because now I know that each match has a different policy about brass. Like the other guy, I shoot at tuesday night steel where it is expected that 4-5 people waiting in line should pick up brass for the last shooter. But, there are no squads at TNS, you just get in line for the stage, shoot it and head off to the next one. Typically, there are anywhere from 10 to 30 people waiting in line so there are lots of people who can help out, plus since it's steel, there's no scoring or taping.
  14. So Sarge, I just saw your "for sale" ad. Didn't like them? Going back to MSA? I've been following this thread and past threads over the past few years and for what it's worth, I just picked up an MSA Supreme Pro-X. Yesterday was the first time I got to try them other than around the house and annoying the wife. They seem to work pretty well at cutting out loud noises while still allowing a conversation to be had. Obviously, when there's a gunshot, all noise gets attenuated so there were still times where I had to say "What?". They also pick up a lot of extra noise and exaggerates it, like your footsteps on gravel, or the guy sweeping brass 30 feet away. Comfort is excellent, but I sprung for the gel pads and the cloth covers. With other, low profile ear muffs like the Pro Ears Slim, I had a problem with them being too shallow and not sealing well behind my ears. I was worried the same thing would happen with these, but it turns out, I don't have that problem with the MSA's. They seem to do a good job of cutting out harmful noise. After wearing them for a while on the firing line, you don't notice them cutting out noise, until you turn them off, then your whole world goes silent. I ended up paying $308, including shipping.
  15. I use a fairly big bin on my 550 and it works fine. I do use a small C clamp just to make sure it doesn't slide off and spill everywhere.
  16. I just got an iphone 4s and the surefire app crashes immediately so I haven't used it. I also have "Shot Timer" from innovative applications (Taurus Timer) and it doesn't pick up the shot unless I have the phone 1 foot away from the muzzle. In one of the reviews, somebody said the noise cancellation of the 4s is interfering with it.
  17. Definitely too little for major, but the local matches I shoot don't score major or minor so I haven't cared about that. 3.3gr was just something I picked from the low end of the reloading book. One of these days I will shoot a real match so I've been half heartedly trying to decide on a powder to make major.
  18. Is this with or without a round in the chamber? If with, are they factory or reloads?
  19. No, not fitted, but just had the chamber lengthened for my reloads. What happened was the OAL with moly bullets was too long for the chamber and the bullet would run into the end of the chamber, preventing the slide from going all the way home. It would chamber factory copper jacketed bullets just fine, but not the moly bullets for some reason. If you search around on various forums, you'll see that it's very common for people to send their barrel back to LW with a few dummy reloads and they would rechamber it for free. However, earlier in the year, I emailed them and they must have changed their policy because they said it would cost $20 so I just gave it to the local gunsmith.
  20. Thanks. The LW has about 300 rounds but the stock has about 1500-2000 rounds through it. Funny, I've had the LW for about a year, but just recently got around to giving it to the gunsmith to have him work on it so I've only had it working for about a month.
  21. The lights are just right at Rio and yup, I have seen the bullets of .45s going down range. It's really trippy.
  22. I'd just like to share these photos to provide some data points. My load is: 180 gr Bear Creek Moly bullets 3.3 gr of Clays OAL 1.130 - 1.140 (still experimenting) I'm a beginner in all this and just shoot the weekly local steel match where the typical round count is about 120-150 rounds per match. The first picture is a comparison of the lone wolf barrel and the stock glock barrel. At the time of the pictures, the lone wolf had about 300 rounds through it and the Glock had about 130 rounds through it. I really don't know if the "stuff" in the glock barrel is lead or moly build up. The second picture shows how factory rounds sit in the chamber. The third picture shows the accuracy and precision of the barrels. The left target is the lone wolf and the right target is the stock glock. It was an informal shoot out in the desert so I'm guessing the distance was about 15-20 feet. I was shooting slow and steady for accuracy and off hand; nothing to rest on. Ignore the holes outside the orange targets, those weren't part of the test. I can definitely tell the LW has tighter chamber tolerances than the glock because the bullet doesn't rattle around as much. You can also see this difference in the picture above. I also had the LW chamber lengthened for my rounds because the first time I took it out to the range, the bullet would run into the end of the chamber and kept the gun out of battery.
  23. Are you sure it's from an unfired primer and not from one that was deprimed? I've seen that before, where the anvils fall out of the deprimed ones.
