  1. I switched to green (from red) and my eyes seem to like it better. I also like to burn the end to get a big green dot (one that fills up the rear notch) and I have had good luck with it so far. In practice, it is fun to do mis-alignment drills and see where the shot lands in the A zone--> (from a lost thread here {flex can you help?}). I prefer to watch the small green dot bouncing up and down as opposed to the red which seemed to wash out on far targets for me anyway.. Thanks for all the help. Does anybody know what color TGO uses?
  2. Several years ago I was really into the whole power lifting/weight training thing, you know the whole 18" arms, 600#+ deadlifts etc.etc. I now prefer a lean flexible body and I don't even lift weights anymore,(I just hit the speed bag). I especially liked the hand grip exercises, as when I was a little kid I remember my Grandfather taking walnuts and crushing them with 1 hand and he could take 3/8" spikes and bend them in half. I find that having a strong grip lets me hold any pistol with a rock-solid vice-like grip while being totally relaxed with no tension if that makes sense....LOL Here is a couple of links you should check out. https://secure.amazon-networks.com/secure-h...ml/forearm.html The power forearm routine is a real a$$ kicker and will build your hands/wrists/forearms like nothing else. http://www.ironmind.com/ There is alot of great grip tools on this sight. I have not done any of the grip exercises for about 10 years now but I still have a pretty decent grip.
  3. Hi Dave You are still an awesome shooter. Quite sandbagging dude and just accept the fact that you are a master class shooter, don't fight it.... I have seen your single stack and you are a perfect example of "it is the shooter and not the gun", don't get me wrong here as I am not knocking your blaster, but what did you pay for your 1911, a buck two fifty?...hehe That thing looks as crude as John Brownings original proto-types...LOL (no flames intended really, love 'ya man)... Wilson 10 rounders is what I will go with then, and I will buy them from Brian, our wunderbar host. The knee is swollen, painful & I can barely walk. But I will be back...LOL
  4. I have an STI Edge and I also put a short trigger in. I have really big hands and a short stubby index finger and this is what I did---> *Pinning the safety helps(drill and tap an allen set screw so that the mainspring housing holds it securely. *I took a file and cut down that annoying ridge on both sides (yellow circle)that really helped. *I carefully sanded a space below the top grip screw(red circle) so the side of my index finger has a little more clearance (go easy in this area). * you can also take a file (or dremmel) and relieve the area in the blue circle (I use a file and take my time because once you remove too much material it is too late). *I also took a file and put a chamfer (broke the edge) in the area above the trigger guard on the frame. *I also took an arkansas stone and blended the area where the beaver tail grip meets the frame After doing these simple mods it made a huge difference in how my Edge feels hope this helps.
  5. I did a search which did not answer my query. Matt Burkett told me that he favors green whilst Mike Voight says he likes the red/orange color for the fiber optic sight. It may be that the open shooters favor the red/orange because that is the color of the dot in an open gun. What color do you like and why. What color does the human eye see the quickest? I personally have had good hits with both colors and just plain black sights. What do you like to look at and why? Thanks for your help. bird
  6. Thanks to everyone for the help. Maybe I should try 1 mag each from the different manufactures and see what works, but that seems like a huge hassle and expense, but it does makes the most sense. I could just down-load my Grams tuned hi-caps to 10 and shoot my wide body .40 STI and not worry about it. I guess I like the romantic thingy about shooting L10 with a single stack .45, you know a Mans gun....LOL. The purist in me and all that... If the Tripp mags are truly the cats meow then I will spend the scratch to avoid the match/mags not working blues... dave cutts, as a L10 shooting god, what do you use? bird
  7. I recently purchased a .45 single-stack 1911 that I will take possession of in a few weeks. I have done a bit of research on the www and the top 3 have been: *metalform *wilson *cmc power mags What works in the real world of competition with the single stack 1911 .45? Any comments positive or negative are most welcome. Thnks bird
  8. Is this horse dead yet? I would also give the guy an "A" for effort. It seems to me that he didn't gain any advantage and probably tanked the classifier. Picking the fly $h!t out of the pepper is ok but I give this person style points for thinking fast on his feet (awareness, shooting in the moment, and all the things that Brian talks about in his book). The course description has holes that anyone can shoot through, as does any course description. Personally I have seen really good shooters frequently grand bag classifiers all day 'til they get it right. You know the Legit "B" shooters that have the "M" card. So what, it's all a game and clearly this person didn't gain any advantage.
  9. Brian, where is your new book? Maybe you should give us the "spoken word" based on how IPSC has evolved into the 21st century. -Matt (no last name necessary) seems to have the modern practical shooting market cornered with his dvd's. It would be nice to "hear" from you, afterall, wasn't it you and tgo that changed modern practical shooting as we all know it? Always learning.. bird Hi davecutts dad.
  10. 73. Think about every little thing while practicing. 74. Don't think at all during the match ---->trust. 75. Drink alot of water. 76. Stretch. 77. Think positive thoughts 78. Leave your Ego at home 79. Learn something new at every match. 80. Have fun, you are not at work.
  11. Maybe with the proper exposure, IPSC can rise above Synchronized Swimming when it comes to TV coverage. Believe it or not the market is there: Top Five Categories for Sports Equipment Sales -- (Wholesale Values) 1. Exercise machines $1.755 billion 2. Firearms/hunting $1.487 billion 3. Golf $1.335 billion 4. Camping $1.225 billion 5. Fishing $1.200 billion Source: SGMA Recreation Market Report 2002 IMO there are alot of people out there that would enjoy this and OLN and Jim may be the right combo. I know many people that own and enjoy firearms but most are reluctant to even talk about it (or even to admit that they belong to the NRA-or not). It seems to me that a gay man with aids has more respect in this country than firearm enthusiasts have. Sorry for the rant.
  12. I do not like video games but my kids love them. (the last video game I played was pong). solidsnake. I bought my son the guncon thing you were talking about yesterday. This was the 1st modern video game that I have ever played and even though I don't think it is anything like real shooting, it did give my eyes quite a workout..(I did beat all 3 of my kids for what that is worth.). The funny thing is that after playing for a few hours my wife showed me a sticker on the box that said "Not for sale in California". I bought the damn thing in California for $50.00 (2 guns, game and all the cords etc)... Go figure.. I now have a deal with my kids, for every hour they read a book, daddy will play 1/2 hr on the guncon thing with them. win win
  13. 10ring. What kind of gun are you shooting? When I shoot my HK.45 I find that I have to get a piece of the rear grip with my left hand, with my STI .40 I don't. Another thing that has worked for me is to use your left hand fingers as a hinge and press your left heel into the side grip panel (which also serves to push the gun into the right hand when I don't quite get that perfect right hand grip from the holster). I had the same left hand grip slipping problem until I though of the left hand as a sort-of hinge and press thing if that makes sense.
  14. Of course this is a "posed Picture". Would you expect anything less from Nyle? I think that Robs PJ pattern would make a great backdrop design for team ancient, team be, team ghost...? In my humble opinion TGO's 12yr old PJ pattern is better than Todd Jarrets green sweat pant thingy... Nice pix Brian
  15. I guess I am once again the odd man out as I prefer to do my reloads with empty mags. I find that my natural adrenaline during a match makes me seat my mags proper. I do 90% of my dry-fire mag changes in slow motion over a davenport in my garage with my eyes closed. I find the trick is to pause at the magwell before inserting the new mag. Ultra slow motion is very hard to do but it makes me pay attention to every single little detail.
  16. Thanks for all the help guys. I will check out Choline. I just it hope it don't jump start his sex drive too much. He already has a girlfriend.
  17. EricW, If you are refering to my book, it is bascially a re-hash of go rin no sho, with a little Sesame Street bird seed thrown in.. Big birds book of the five rings...hehe. Seriously, My youngest Son ( 9 yrs old and is extremely bright) has ADD/ADHD and ritalin, etc. left him with the feeling of: "Dad, I see my friends outside playing and my mind wants to go outside and play but my body won't let me, do I have to keep taking my medicine?" Suffice to say my son is no longer taking any drugs, and he is now bouncing off the walls. Brian, Do you think "sports link focus trainer" will help my Son? If so then the $350.00 is well worth it. My Wifes sanity may depend upon it. Sorry for the non-ipsc drift and my son cannot sit still enough to read any book. Brian, please advise. thanks. bird
  18. Me thinks that muscle memory and just doing it forever for 25+ years along with the fact that you don't really think about it may have something to do with it....hehe Being of Teutonic Heritage and being evovled 1 step above the "fur on my back" evolutionary ladder, this is not really an issue for me. (after all you cannot grow grass on a playground)...hehe But When I do have the rare occasion to cleanse my face of filamentous projections' I choose a straight razor and I find the mirror does help aid in this process.. For what it is worth the straight razor does prevent me from performing any wasted motions, as my juglar vein is important to me and it does give me a close shave and the chicks really seem to dig it...hehe With the advent of the modern electric razor I no longer have the need to learn how to shave properly. Using the electric razor seems like cheating.... Please don't ask me about how I tie my shoes. If I had to think while I tie my Nike land sharks or my Ferragamos', I would not be able to because I have never really thought about it while I did it. I hope I can tie my shoes tomorrow. Does anyone sell a scope for shaving or for tying your shoes? I may need to buy one because I don't have the time to learn how to do it properly... ;-) you lot.. what. don't stop. give it all you got you lot. what. don't stop yeah.. bird
  19. Right on Eric, IPSC is the only Global brotherhood that the practical shooter has. Personally it is comforting to me to know that there are Alot of people in the World that relish our good 'ol USA 2nd Ammendemnt right, for what that is worth. IPSC has taught me more about myself then just front sight squeeze thingy... Hi davecutts mom
  20. Stewart, IPSC withdrawal for me is only having the time to shoot 1 match in Jan due to family obligations and my 1st match was plagued with new gun problems and my 2nd match was "blown away", literally. IPSC was started in the USA and IMO is the premier, ultimate (insert your own superlatives here) practical shooting sport in the World, (didn't the USA shootists dominate the latest World shoot?). Maybe you should withdraw from this board and go to Tlock Galk for all your "I like to talk about shooting instead of really shooting" needs. hi davecutts mom...

  22. illtmprdman, Buy Brians book yesterday, read it, memorize it, internalize it, then read it again over and over forever,as it is all there... Todd Jarret has spent millions of hours perfecting his grip through live and mostly dry-firing (up to, and over 6 hrs per day). commitment Buy Todd's video (Brian you should really sell this), and watch it over and over. Todd explains things in such simple terms that you will almost laugh at how easy it is to shoot a pistol. The whole video seems like a "cliff note" to Brians book. The way Todd explains his "grip" is straight out of Brians book,(as is everything on the video). Buy Brians book and TJ's video, dry fire ALOT and once you go to the range don't think, just shoot. Live fire is not the time to work out all the grip, stance etc. as that is done during the dry-firing. Once you go hot and shoot, don't think about anything and just watch the sights and your body will make the necessary adjustments, (provided you did your homework/dry-firing etc)... Dry-fire is for working out all the sorted details and live fire is all about vision and watching the sights and calling the shots. I am still a newBE to this sport but that is the path that I am on...
  23. Hey my Wife has one of those in her...... nevermind...hehe Word of warning: Don't get your dogs addicted to beggin strips, you know the bacon snacks. I have 2 basenjis and that is their "crack"...hehe.. That is cool Eric as I too love the smell of .22 brick ammo in the morning but what is REALLY cool is that my father-in-law found out that I shoot Ipsick and my wifey told him that it does indeed involve a firearm of sorts... He gave us 6 vintage WWII German Lugers (most of them were a Black Widow, whatever that means), and to pass them along to our many children someday... Wow, they look really new and most of them have this crooked cross thingy and one has a leather officers holster...hehe They are sleeping in my gun safe along with a vintage WWI mauser .22 that REALLY shoots accurate... Good stuff.... bird

    The Music Man

Well, I don't know much about bands but I do know that you can't make a living selling big Trombones... (tactical or not...hehe). I remember it as well..... As part of my early musical training I had a choice between listening to Mitch Miller records or the Music Man, as that is all my Mom had in her limited collection and my Dad was tone deaf. Guess which one I listened to?? (I really gave mitch an honest try..). I didn't have a radio and the TV only had 3 stations. 1. News 2. News 3. The Indian test pattern I watched the Indian test pattern and listened to the music man.... Fond memories...... As a side not though I was the 1st chair Sax man all through school including "band camp"...hehe Say what you will about "band camp", but all the girls loved the sax. if you know what I mean.... All those hours marching made walking/running whilst shooting seem like 2nd nature...... Thanks Eric, I not only hear the trombones but I can see their sight lift and return on the music page....
