Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. A local GM is sponsored by Montana Gold. He told me that the owner of MG went to brass because he couldn't find a supplier of sheet copper material that would guarantee a consistency of material thickness within his specifications. The brass supplier would.
  2. After having this problem and finding the solution, I wrote up the reassembly instructions and posted at http://www.1911forum.com/forums/showthread...3348#post273348 . I hope it helps others.
  3. Made zero progress talking to Para sales management (Manager of Quality & VP Sales). This was the VP's reply to my request for an Armorer's manual: -----Original Message----- From: John Westerfield [mailto:parajohnw@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 12:29 PM To: Dunn, Jim Subject: Re: Assembly of P14-45 LDA Dear Sir, Our Armorer's Manual is still in production and will not be completed for some weeks yet. The draft we have been using to teach the course is not suitable for distribution. Furthermore, at this time we plan to distribute the manual only to those law enforcement armorer's and practicing gunsmiths who have attended our training course. Please advise me of your location and I will try to steer you to someone who can reassemble your pistol corrrectly and safely. We recommend only field stripping of the pistol for owner level cleaning and that you have a competent, trained, gunsmith do an annual detailed cleaning, or oftener if you are a frequent shooter. We storngly urge you not to try to alter any surfaces in your LDA. If the trigger is not functioning properly, you may return it to us and take advantage of our limited lifetime service policy. Respectfully Yours John D. Westerfield VP of Sales Para, Mfg. Inc. ============================= However, before being rebuffed by their mgmt, I did call someone recommended in this thread. In short order he was able to explain on the phone how to reassemble. Thanks to all !!!
  4. I just bought a Para 14-45 LDA. Trigger was worse than expected so I thought I'd take it apart and polish contact points. About a dozen little parts fell out that I can barely see, let alone figure out how to get back together. At this point I don't care about a better trigger, I just want to get it back together properly. Anybody have any documentation on a complete reassembly of the 14-45 LDA?
  5. I decided to rechronograph and found that what I thought was actually 200 fps below PF165, turned out to be PF190.0! I learned that I needed to turn the chronograph so I'm shooting 90 degrees to the sun. It turns out my 9.7 gr of WW571 was good at PF172.
  6. Brian- I didn't notice any muzzel flash. It probably would have gone up with the blast from the brake if there was any. However, 12.9 AA#9 shot real soft and was very consistent. I had previously chrony'd 10.2 WW571 with 124fmj at 170 major but when I made a new batch and checked it it was 200fps low (the 12.9 AA#9 was right on). I bumped it up to 10.5, maybe 11 and the velocity didn't go up much so I stopped. Jeff, your web site listing for 38super was my primary reference, that is why I was hesitant to go above 10.5 to make major. It looks like it might take 12 or 12.5 gr of WW571 for 170pf. What charge did you use with WW571 with 124gr fmj? You don't list it in your compilation. Thanks,
  7. I just bought a Para P14-45 LDA with some chewed up hicap mags that need repair. What replacement tubes will fit, which are best and what's the best price & source? Thanks.
  8. Although discontinued, I have about 3# of WW571 powerd. This is a fairly slow powder, and is supposed to be identical to Hodgdon HS7. I have seen other posts indicating major loads with 10-10.5 gr WW571 with 124 gr FMJ bullets. I tried these loads and I chrono'd at 200fps < 165major in my 5" hybridcomp SV shooting 38 supercomp with Montana Gold 124FMJ. I can make major with 12.9gr AA#9. WW571 is a fairly slow powder, very close to AA#9. I don't feel comfortable increasing the charge to make major. Does anybody have experience with this powder/load? Do you think it might be OK to increase charge as required?
  9. I have fired thousands of rounds of lead bullets through Glocks. Mostly .45 but also .40 & 9mm. I feel that the mirrored bore in Glocks are LESS susceptible to leading than conventionally rifled barrels. However, once leading starts in a Glock, it does seem to build up faster. I clean my Glocks every 300-400 rounds and have had no problem. I cast my own bullets so my bullets are softer and may lead more than commercial lead. After getting the equipment, bullets are essentially free (except for LOTS of time).
