Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had a scare like that a week or so back. Using AA#2 and 185 fp Berrys my load was supposed to be 5.2 and the scale verified it but a check on a different scale revealed it to be 8.8! My visual check told me it didn't look right and I'm glad I followed my gut. I don't have a lot of faith in digital scales now and am going to invest in a good deam/balance scale.
  2. I'm a big fan of Ramshot Zip, it burns clean and is cheaper than most. I have had good success using it for 9mm, .357sig and 45acp. A lot depends on what you can find in your local area, around here powder is almost impossible to find so I buy bulk from Powder Valley to help offset the damm hazmat fees. If your going to buy that way then you may as well stock up on primers also again to take advantage of the fee.
  3. No, but I just figured it out. Somehow I had turned screw #14037 which backstops against the primer slide return post. Once adjusted properly she's back to her old self! Sure was a lot of gunk built up!!
  4. I have about 5k thru my 550b and decided it was time to clean the priming system per the advice on this forum. Cleaned with alcohol, lubed with graphite and all runs smoothly except now my primers won't seat! Any ideas?
  5. Check out Precision Delta, there 38spcl bullets run from $68 to $72 per thousand. Buy two thousand and shiping is free. These are plated but they have lead also.
  6. I just used the last of a box of 500 Berrys 115jhps that I use in my HK P7s. Using either 4.5 of Green Dot or 4.2 of AA#2 it makes a great target round that without a chrno feels similar to a WWB factory 115jhp load. Clean and accurate but on the spendy side. I just ordered 1k each of 9mm 124fmj and 45acp 230fmj from Precision Delta and they should be here next week. Prices are great and I have heard nothing but good things about them.
  7. Back in November I picked up a new full size M&P 45 as an early Christmas present to myself, the trigger absolutely sucked and was beyond a doubt the worse I had experienced in over 30+ years of shooting both as an LEO and for fun. Per my gauge it weighed close to 6.75 pounds, had no reset and felt like something was binding. I also have two M&P 9s. a full size and a compact and while there not the best they are getting better with time. I packed it up, called the PC at S&W and the next day FedEx delivered a prepaid shipping label. Off it went and five business days later she came back as a whole different gun! The trigger is now at 4.25 pounds, is nice and smooth and actually has a reset. Being a 1911 type most of my life I can honestly say that the PC came close. Total cost including round trip shipping was $157. They installed a PC sear, rounded off the safety plunger (little ball on the rear of slide when off the gun), polished the feed ramp like a mirror and a few other small "tricks" I'm sure. It was money well spent and with what I spent for the gun (LEO discount) and the PC I'm in it for just under $700. This is an absolute pleasure to shoot now and from what I have heard and read the safety plunger is one of the biggest issues affecting the triggers of the M&Ps. I'm glad to see S&W back in the running for the LE market once again and if I was active again the M&P would be one of my top choices to carry.
  8. Had the same issue this week and what a pain! I must have taken my shell plate apart and cleaned it five or six times before Iremembered that damm little allen screw and the fact I had just switched things around. It will be nice to get back into full swing again vs taking four or five minutes to load a single round!!!
  9. I haved two M&Ps a 9 and a 45 and while the 9 is prone to rust the 45 isn't. Quarterly, I coat all the metal parts with a good lube (I use weaponshield) and let them sit for about 1/2 hour before wiping it off. I also wipe whichever I have carried or handled that day with a silicone cloth before they hit the safe, of course I do this will all my guns. The older M&P mags which appear to be blued were very rust prone and the newer dull gray looking ones seem fine. I live in the PNW and between rain and humdity the cloth and oiling have really helped. If the problem continues contact S&W and see what they suggest also, over at the M&P forum theres a lot of discussion about this. Hope this helped. www.mp-pistol.com
  10. I backordered 5k of Wolf LPs from Grafs and had them within a month. Wideners had PMC but they were spendy like 3x the norm.
  11. FWIW, I have been buying these from Brownells and using them in 1911 builds for a few years. I'm pretty sure that they are just repackaged ISMI chrome silicone but I haven't had a single issue or concern with them. I just received a few of the sear springs today and will just installed one in a full build S&W 1911 platform.
  12. I have quite a few (maybe 1 or 2k) I no longer need as I sold both my 10mms. Contact me at torrejon224@msn.com if you still need some. All once fired.
  13. Here are some links to a few friends of mine that make gunleather I guarantee will knock your socks off!! Mark Garrity of Garritys Gunleather is a full time LEO in the Phoenix metro area and makes some of the finest rigs I have seen. His work with exotic leathers is just unbelieveable. Next up is John Ralston of 5SHot Gunleather in Vancouver Wa. John was a full time engineer before taking the plunge into making holsters full time. He's also a protege of Lou Alessi and that says a lot. Finally, theres Alex Nossar, Alex is from Peru and makes some of the most stunning holsters, belts, mag pouches, etc I have ever laid my eyes on. His rigs are extremely thin and comfortable but will last a lifetime and his work with exotic leathers is just unreal. If your in the market for a new rig, you owe it to yourslef to check these guys out. The wait may be long but when the package arrives you'll feel like a kid on Christmas morning!!
