Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I am curious to hear about your set up, mount you use, where you put it, where you zero and what your rational is. Here is my tragic tale: I use to put my JPoint on my scope( NF 2.5X10, NPR2) at 12 oclock , useing a JP scope mount for 30mm tube and zero at 100 yards. But I found most of the time I wanted to use it was on closer targets and I would have to hold real high, and that made me slower. I changed zero to 35 yards, with better results, but since my MRD is so high above my bore if I had some wide open targets at 50 yards that would be best taken with the MRD I would have to hold low. SO im going to put it off set on the rail with the JP mount and zero at 15 (for busting them clay birds up close) but should still hiy close to dot out to 60 yards, so I hope. I am curious to hear about your set up, mount you use, where you put it, where you zero and what your rational is. Here is my tragic tale:
  2. AS for your AR 10, extraction problems with 308/762 ARs and surplus (soft brass) are at national crisis levels. If the chamber is tight, the problem is magnified. I had this problem on a dpms, and did all kinds of stuff. Finally got a full set gauges measured the chamber and it was min 308 length, I re-reamed it to near max 7.62 and polished. It had a 16" barrel with a short gas system, pluged that hole moved port to mid length., so pressure would be lower when extracting. It is also important to keep chamber clean especially after shooting soft brass. It would not hurt to use a stronger extractor spring, but better to create a situation where less force is required to get the brass out of chamber. So consider checking your chamber out, but some simpler things to try first. 1. Increase buffer weight to delay unlocking, intent being to have extraction occur at lower pressure, in the hope the brass is not stuck to the chamber wall with as much force as it was a microsecond earlier. 2. Stronger buffer spring, same reason as above. 3. Polish the chamber, to reduce friction.
  3. Check to make sure you have "J HOOK" spring in the hammer. It is a small spring shaped like a J in the bottom center of the hammer, that keeps it aligned with the hammer pin. With out you have the problem you describe, the disconector will hold it back after first shots but hammer falls when you release the trigger and is not caught by sear.
  4. another option which will take a little research is anneal, the mag tube to make it less flexible.
  5. Hey, mbaccolyte, will your mags hold more than 12 rounds? Mine work ok with just 12, but have a witness hole marked 14. The gun was advertised as holding 15. Just got back from the range have about 200 rounds threw it at this point, feeds everything, hollow points, truncated cone, handles everything from mild 10, to buffalo big bore heavy loads. Its obvious the mag has a strong/long spring. And the follower has a long skirt on it, that keeps it from tilting. I think these combine to make for reliable feeding, along with properly dimensioned mag lips, and smooth surface inside of the tube, to include the inner edge of the mag lips. The options for a fix that are on my short list. 1. Disassemble and re-size the body, (may lose capacity) 2. Get a base pad that gives a little more volume 3. Shorten Spring 4. Get a smaller follower. 5. Open up the inside bottom of magwell, the area that it is rubbing on when swelled. First step will be to take some measurements and get the actual size difference along the length of the tube.
  6. Hey Skydiver, who is Cha Lee, did he ever come with a solution?
  7. If nothing appears to be mechanically broken, check to see if there is a bulge in the barrel. Another possibility is small metal fragments from pierced primers. I built a 9X23 STI and had this issue, turns out it was the ammo, and I did not pick up on pierced primers right away. The little pieces of frag got every where inside the gun and caused all kinds of issues, good luck
  8. I just got a Witness Stock II in 10 MM, and some additional mags, all the mags are the K-10 type. I shot 50 rounds so far and the gun runs great. The only issue is, the mags "swell" when loaded with more than 12 to 13 rounds. As in they will not drop free with more than 12 rounds and are difficult to insert with this number of rounds. They 'Shrink" back to size when you remove rounds, such that the total number is 10 or 11 and will than drop free and insert smooth. Is this normal? Is there a fix? I did load one up and observed where it was rubbing, than squished it in a padded vice ever so slightly, and it would than insert smooth and drop free fully loaded. But once I removed the rounds and reloaded it went back to expanding. I suppose I could bring a vice with me to matches and simply squish my magazines before each stage, but I do not want to be "that guy" who is not helping to reset because he has alot of gear issues.
  9. You might want to play around with aperture size, it can also affect focus/ speed of focus for aging eyes. I think I am a few years ahead of you and finally threw in the towel and put a red dot on everything. blind in open class gunfrog
