Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Wow! Lots'o info!! Thanks guys. As I have said before, this is one amazing source of info!!! I'm gonna go shoot again later today! This sporting clays stuff can be seriously addictive!!!
  2. The fact that there is nowhere left around my area to participate in the two shooting sports that I have competed in and worked at long enough to be competitive in (Indoor Archery & Smallbore Silhouette). The fact that the shooting sports that are still being held around my area are so expensive to get started in. The whole my ____ is obviously better than your ____ (fill in the blanks) attitude that is so common in the world today. ps Erik, My 66 was shot with an AA Class shooter basically telling me "the clay will be coming from there and going this fast/slow and you need to use this choke" etc. I would not wanna think what my score would have been if I had shot the course all on my own!
  3. Irishlad, He designed the course, runs the proshop, and shoots it several times a week! He is Very good, though. He shoots AA Class. I would have shot a substantially lower score, I believe, if I had done it without his help! Brian, First I need to buy an XL 650, Then I'll think about an SL 900! I will definitly buy both through your sight, too!
  4. I'm finding that this is not a book I can read with the TV on and my wife talking to me! If I find a nice quiet place and think about what I am reading, I know I will definitly learn alot from it!

    Seeing

Sorry to dredge up a really Old thread here, but this thread is Amazing. I had some Major trouble on low, fast passing shots today and when I asked Jack (the guy I was shooting with) how much he lead the clays he answered "I don't pay any attention to my lead. I just see the bird and execute the shot." Confused the h*ll out of me at the time, but it kinda makes sense, now! It is amazing how much you can learn here by just scanning the old threads! ps: benos, is their a shooting sport that you have tried that you didn't excel in!
  6. I had the day off today, so I took my new shotgun and some borrowed choke tubes and shot my first ever round of Sporting Clays. I got lucky in that one of the guys that works at the range is an AA Class shooter and shot the round with me giving advice/critique along the way. My score? 66. Not bad I guess. I think it would have been Much lower had I shot it without his help! His score? 94!! I was impressed but he was actually a little dissapointed! I think it helps that he designed the course and has shot it literally hundreds of times!! It is a very addictive sport! If it weren't so expensive, I could see me getting seriously involved in it! Guess I will need a shotshell reloading setup now!
  7. "Your friend is falling behind, since you have his" Nah. He has several copies. He wouldn't loan me the autographed one! The funny part is that I didn't ask to borrow it, he offered it after shooting a practice round with me! Think he was trying to imply something?
  8. I borrowed a copy of Brian's book and started reading it today and the first thought that comes to mind is HUH??!!! Is it normal to have to read everything two or three times for it to Start making sense or am I really as dumb as my wife tells everyone? I can see I am gonna have to buy my own copy since this is obviously one of those read it then re-read it then start over books!
  9. I agree completely with HTR's assessment. I have been using Quick Load for several months and really think it is infinitly superior to the RCBS Load program. NECO's websight is at http://www.neconos.com/.
  10. MAME was a Lot better before some of the companies who still own the rights to some of these old games started filing lawsuits to prevent them from being distributed without paying royalties! I still use it alot, though! Like almost anything else, you can still find the game ROM's if you are willing to look for them! As for my favorite Video Game... Unreal Tournament. It's the only one I have played enough to be good at!

    Shooters

"The gentleman next to us took notice and offered his Ruger .22 for her to shoot." I had this exact same experience the first time my wife (girlfriend at the time) went to the range with me. She didn't care for the recoil of my .45 and a guy in the next range stall pulled a Browning Buckmark .22 and a small ammo can of .22 ammo out of his bag and offered it to her to shoot as long as she wanted. Afterward he wouldn't accept any money for the ammo she used. He said he was just doing his part to help the sport! 12. Went to a local range to try out my new shotgun today and the owner wondered out to watch. He noticed that my misses were consistently missed in the same general direction and mentioned that I probaly had a fit problem with the stock. The kid he had running the traps commented that he shot a newer version of the same gun and suggested that I try adjusting the stock. (I didn't even know it was adjustable!) The owner offered his workbench and tools and we adjusted it a few times untill it was right. No charge, no hassle, just a fun day at the range with good people! Other than giving me a hard time about shooting Skeet with an IM choked 28" barrel!! (It's what came with the gun!)
  13. Thanks again Eric. I went and shot today and was having trouble missing low and left until the guy running the traps pointed out the adjustability of the stock to me. We fiddled with it for a while and once we got it where it was right I felt like I had taken lessons or something! Clays were turning to dust all over the place! He was actually impressed I could hit Anything with a 28" barrel and IM choke!
  14. I know that within limits, it is possible to cut a barrel off and thread it for screw in chokes since my Nephew had to do so after he plugged his barrel with mud then fired it! oops! I think it would have actually been cheaper to buy a new barrel, though. He was just in too big a hurry to wait for one to be ordered since it was the middle of Quail season and noone had one in stock. Don't know what the actual cost was, though.
  15. Hello everyone. I hope you New Year started out as good as mine! I received my shotgun today and it looks New to me! I wish I took care of things the way my brother obviously does! It has a 28" Barrel, a Synthetic stock and forearm, and a Matte finish. The barrel looks LONG! I may pick up a shorter one someday when the $$$ situation clears up. I hope to go shoot it later today to see how it handles! The gas system sounds kinda cool, too. It vents some of the gas out of the front of the forearm to lessen felt recoil and to allow it to shoot rounds from light target loads to heavy magnums without any real difference. Can you tell I'm psyched!!! It cam with only one choke tube, since he kept the rest for use in his curren gun, So I need to get some for it. The one it came with is an OEM flush mount IM tube. I plan to buy extended so I don't have to mess with a tube wrench. I plan to use it for pretty much everything. Duck and Pheasant hunting, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. Any recommendations as to what choke tubes I need? As always, Thanks!! Oh, for those of you who might not have read my earlier posts on the subject, it is a Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard Synthetic Model. (Edited by TommyC at 10:59 am on Jan. 4, 2003)
