  1. From an accuracy standpoint, I can tell you that out of the thousands of rounds, 12 different powders and 8 different bullet combinations (lead and FMJ) I have shot out of a Ransom rest with my 3 9mm pistols, WSF and Silouhette powders are the most accurate powders with Titegroup in 3 place at PF ranges from 133-135. In my Ransom Rest trails N320 came in near the bottom in accuracy. So for me cheap, easily obtainable accurate powders is what I will continue to use and I just do not why everyone is so hell bent on using N320

  2. Nice test....cheers.gif

but... I would have liked to seen a mag full of WWB and/or Federal store bought shot somewhere in the test to see how much difference there is....

To me it appeared the Solo was a little less smokey..

Here is Donnie's youtube video and he shoots WWB at the end for a comparison.

  3. Todd: What was your conclusion while firing? None of them seemed all that bad and none were all that clean. Personally, I just don't notice my smoke, but I do notice the smoke from the person next me.

All the lubes with Parafin really smoked alot with the TG. The Carnuba Red lube is the best I have tried so far. It keeps my barrels nice and shiny with very little sooty waxy build up in the gun. The smoke does not bother me much either. I did the test because of a discussion that was going on at the time.

  4. I tested it in my CZ 85 and my 5" 1911 with a 124g LRN and a 124g Bayou Bullet. The information I got was that 3.4g was max and at that charge weight I was only producing 120 PF out of my guns loaded to 1.10 OAL. I started seeing primers flattening going above that and the accuracy sucked. Now Silhoutte is another matter. I have gotten great results with that Ramshot powder in all my guns.

  5. TG, American Select, 231, Power Pistol, WSF, Unique, Universal, 4756, N310, N320, N340, Competition, Zip, Silhoutte, Solo 1000, WSt, Accurate #2 and #5, Green Dot.

With proper load development they all work. Use what you can get cheaply and shoot it. It also depends on what type of recoil impulse you like. I stick with TG because I made a good deal on a bunch of it.

  6. Personally, I would just order a thinner sight for it. You could do it with a hand file though if you have patience. I saw Laura this morning and she had said you had ordered a 6lb spring. I think that will be too light and will be sluggish, and you surely will feel a sharp slam when the slide hits the frame. Talk to Paul Mills and Darrel Louque. They are running the same gun with approx the same loads you are. I believe Paul has a 10 lb in his.

  7. Am I the only TG lover on this forum? Lets not give Jayson just blanket statements about TG being a bad powder.

Fact - Uncoated lead bullets will smoke with ANY powder. The amount of smoke produced is related to the powder but also a large part of what the bullet lube is made of.

Fact - TG works very well and can be very accurate with proper load developement. I have loads worked up for my 9mm pistols with TG that will shoot 3/4" at 20yds from a Ransom Rest.

Fact - TG causes no more leading than an other powder. Leading is a result of poor bullet fit to the barrel and to some part the hardeness of the lead and the bullet lube.

Jayson - After shooting more than 50k rounds through my three 9mm pistols using TG it is my go to powder for all of my pistol reloading. If that is what you can get than usae it with confidence. With proper load developement it works fine in MINOR PF ranges.

This is NOT a powder for MAJOR though.

  8. Velocity is key reason why you see no rifle ammo that is lead, regardless of the velocity of the round. The fact it spends more time in the barrel, having more friction, which will lead to more leading, is the reason.

I have to disagree with this statement. Plenty of information on just this subject over on the the castboolits forum. Many loads for high powered rifles over 2400 FPS, with cast bullets, are discussed there. Sizing and the correct bullet lube are the key.
