Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I do use case lube, but maybe I'll try a little lube on the powder drop die. I adjusted the powder hopper which allows the return spring to clear, and I moved the bullet feeder off the case feeder. We'll see how the next reload session goes.
  2. I have some questions for the collective wisdom of this forum. Hopefully this is posted in the correct subforum. I have a 1050 Super and just added a MBF. I'm loading SNS 147gr flat nose. When I watch the MBF fill the tube everything works as it should, but when I begin reloading I start to experience occasional flips. I suspect it is the movement of the unit caused by the "sticking" that happens when pulling the powder drop expansion die out of the case. Not sure how to smooth out that action so it isn't so sticky. Any suggestions? My second question has to do with MBF bullet drop die. I was using the Double Alpha Dropper-Tensioning Spring Assembly and was having all sorts of issues. I figured out it was the Spring Assembly fouling on the powder drop. Removed the Spring Assembly and had fewer issues, but does anyone know if there is a trick to installing the Spring Assembly that allows it to work with a 1050?
  3. I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. The space side to side is flexible depending upon how far apart you space the two pieces.
  4. I have a Dillon Strong Mount I picked up several years ago hoping it would work with my 550B. It didn't. The holes front to back on the top of each of the two brackets are 3 5/16 inches center to center. Each bracket has 4 holes in the side. Does anyone know for which machine this mount was manufactured?
  5. Looking for some load data for 230 grain Zero HPs using VV N310. Target power factor is 170.
  6. The thumb safeties also differ from those used on the Shadow.
  7. In case you think loading the JHP to 1.214 seems short you might want to take a look at this....
  8. Based solely on my own experience I find that I obtain more consistent results with N320 if there is less vacant space in the case. The longer the OAL the greater the deviation. I've been using 230grain Berrys, Zero FMJ, and Zero HPs. The Zero HPs are loaded to an OAL of 1.214 and have been the most consistent. My results can be found in this thread... http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=177953&hl=%2Bleftee#entry1966618 Marv Z, if you want to decrease the charge, I suggest you shorten the OAL.
  9. For those who may be curious. Here are the results when I rolled 5 230 grain Zero JHP's using the same Dillon settings. 5.1 grains of N320, but an OAL of 1.214. 1) 751.0 -17.0 2) 779.2 11.2 3) 783.6 15.6 4) 771.2 3.2 5) 754.8 -13.2 High: 783.6 Low: 751.0 E.S.: 32.6 Ave.: 768.0 S.D.: 13.0 95%: ±20.1 And here are 5 rounds of 230 grain Zero FMJ's with an OAL of 1.266: 1) 690.1 -37.3 2) 713.5 -13.9 3) 784.2 56.8 4) 736.0 8.6 5) 713.2 -14.2 High: 784.2 Low: 690.1 E.S.: 94.1 Ave.: 727.4 S.D.: 31.9 95%: ±49.6
  10. Okay, tinkered with some settings. Tad more crimp, and upped the load to 5.1 grains of N320. OAL remained 1.260. Here were the results with 230 grain Berry's and CCI SPPs. 1) 719.9 -16.5 2) 725.1 -11.3 3) 771.0 34.6 4) 736.5 0.1 5) 729.6 -6.8 High: 771.0 Low: 719.9 E.S.: 51.1 Ave.: 736.4 S.D.: 18.1 95%: ±28.2
  11. Interesting theory. I'll adjust the crimp and see if it helps. Do you have a crimp measurement you can share? I don't measure stuff like that. I just do it by feel. On a progressive machine, it's pretty easy to lose track of that feel. I had very consistent results with both clays and n320 last year when I was loading on a single-stage, however, so that's what got me thinking. I don't believe it's a concern with 9mm or 40 because those rounds operate at much higher pressures, but 45 is a pretty low-pressure round, so it seems plausible that lack of crimp could lead to inconsistent combustion. I seriously had like no crimp tho. I'll check tonight or tomorrow. I'll measure and also pull a bullet to see if has any indication of a crimp.

  13. Yesterday I tested some 230 grain RN Berry's loaded with 5.0 grains of VV N320. OAL was 1.260. The results are quite unsatisfactory. 1) 676.5 -32.3 2) 713.2 4.4 3) 751.1 42.3 4) 691.5 -17.3 5) 711.9 3.1 High: 751.1 Low: 676.5 E.S.: 74.6 Ave.: 708.8 S.D.: 25.1 95%: ±39.0 I tipped the barrel upward prior to each shot. My 9mm loads were quite consistent, so I'm beginning to think that N320 doesn't ignite consistently unless it's more compressed. Does anyone have any recipes for a more consistent result? I'd like to find a more consistent 168-170 PF. Thanks.
