What kind of ammo? What kind of upper?
-
This thread mentions a free floated barrel for three-gun, and I've seen this mentioned elsewhere as well. Presuming that you aren't using a sling as part of your shooting platform and will not be putting tension on the front of the barrel causing it to flex why would you need a free floated barrel? I takes a lot to move the barrel such as the leverage of having a sling mount at or beyond the gas block so I wouldn't think that resting the barrel on a support of some kind would be a reason since it wouldn't result in flexing the barrel. I order off ebay all the time and never worry. Just make sure the seller has 100% satisfied customer and at least 10 ratings or with over 1000 I go down to 99% satusfaction rating.

Am I wrong in thinking...

I've hired and fired many many people over my career and it sounds to me like you did the right thing. He needs to be accountable for his decisions. Up until now it sounds like he's relied on you taking care of him. -
Around the 2004 elections I remember reading that Tim Leatherman (Leatherman's owner) supported Kerry and was anti-gun. That's enough for me to scratch them from my list.

HC Shooter, If your computer is a desktop buy a video card off ebay with an HDMI output. Jeff

I'm new to shooting a Glock so this may be a stupid question but isn't this an issue with only the first shot since you only release the trigger to reset for follow up shots? Jeff

first time loading lake city brass have a question about volume

I quit using the Dillon super swage and bought a primer pocket truer from Sinclair. 10% of the cost and better IMO. Jeff BTW I single stage so I don't know but what part of a 1050 swages? -
I've never tried dry lube of any kind but as long as you tumble after you should be OK. I cut and pasted a lube tip I got awhile ago and posted here. I've used this for 20,000+ round and never had a problem: I use 16 oz of 99% Isoproply Alcohol ($1.79) from Safeway and 4 oz of pure lanolin ($4.99) from EBay. Mix it all up in a 32oz spray bottle and you'll have enoungh lube to last 5,000 cases for less than $7.00. I clean my sixing die with a shot of carb cleaner every couple of hundered rounds to prevent any buildup as well. Jeff

Longer barrel length gives you two things IMO. Velocity and sight radius. If you use you front post the most important being sight radius. I have a 17" 1:7 with rifle length gas so that I can use the front post since I started off thinking I could shoot irons. I have since switched to a 1-4x optic however. From shooting other rifle sports I know many people there install whats called a 'bloop tube' to support the front sight being extended out beyond actual barrel length but I don't recall ever seeing them in 3 gun. Maybe too delicate? You don't have to go big $$$ for this either. I had my gunsmith build my upper from a 1:7 wilson stainless 20" cut to 17", a Rock River upper, etc. No float tube as I don't think it's needed if you aren't using a sling that puts stress on the barrel when you shoot. New to reloading need help with rifle rounds

Case guage. -
A 1:9 will stabilize 69smk. Generally anything that can load to mag length can be shot out of a 1:9. Jeff

How durable is a custom finish? I like having something distinctive but am also not one to baby a gun so much that it doesn't at least get it's good share of rubbing and wear. Jeff

I wouldn't go that far (with the Lapua). Most GM long range shooters don't even use it. I would go buy some once fired lake city, a primer pocket uniformer (to remove the crimp) and a bushing die (to get consistant neck tension). The LC brass and the new die will still be a bunch less money than the Lapua and you won't be holding everyone up while you'r looking for the last 2 pieces of Lapua in the grass.

I started Consulting company about 5 years ago and have been holding fairly well so far during this economy............ We consult on streamlining the entire business process from end to end so in a slow economy we have saved several small to medium businesses that may have otherwise gone under. Jeff -
New to 223 reloads - Crimp or not
jmurch replied to Cotys's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I use all the same headstamp and a bushing die to get consistent neck tension but I can see why you would want a crimp on mixed brass. Jeff -
New to 223 reloads - Crimp or not
jmurch replied to Cotys's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I've loaded over 20,000 rounds 223 using LC, 77HPBT, Rem 7 1/2, 24.5 Varget. No crimp and never had any problems. -
I would be interested to hear theories on why the diameter of the case head would increase. I'm trying to think of anything. I guess really really hot loads that cause the primer cup to push laterally on the walls of the primer pocket??? If it was that hot I would guess that the case would either be stuck in the chamber or have a chunk rippied off when it tried to extract..... I agree with the previous poster one shot will likely get you a stuck case unless you use lots of it. Jeff

If the unfired brass fits the case gauge and the sized brass doesn't I can't think of any other reason than shoulder setback. I can't imagine any way that the case head diameter could grow. Just keep adjusting the sizing die down until the case head drops below the guage and then adjust it back up. Is the sizing die and the case clean? A tip for lube since you'r new to reloading that I'm sure you can find elsewhere as well. I use 16 oz of 99% Isoproply Alcohol ($1.79) from Safeway and 4 oz of pure lanolin ($4.99) from EBay. Mix it all up in a 32oz spray bottle and you'll have enoungh lube to last 5,000 cases for less than $7.00. Get wubi. Just google it. It will install ubuntu dual boot within windows but it will install it as a windows app so that when you dont want it anymore you just uninstall it. I use it almost exclusivly since XP was out. Faster and more stable than Vista or W7. Jeff

Buy a .223 case gauge. Jeff
