  1. The full custom gun I got early this year was worth every penny. I picked every part in that gun, so that it became exactly what I wanted. Serrations, checkering, and how much trigger undercut, everything. However, almost all I shoot is SS, and spent over a year shooting a semi custom figuring out how I wanted a gun set up. If you can stand the wait and have been fertilizing your money tree, go full custom and you won't be sorry. If you just want to dabble in SS, a production or semi custom should easily get you by.
  2. First of all I would like to thank all the RO's, Kirk, Misty, Rob, and anyone else who worked hard all weekend. Big thanks to the sponsors as well, prize table was outstanding. I enjoyed some stages more than others but all of them were fun. I also enjoy seeing all the people I have met over the past couple years, that is half the fun for me. When I first got a look at 7 I knew it would start some discussion. Do I think it was difficult? Very. But that doesn't mean I think it shouldn't have been in the match. It just showed a lot of people they weren't very good at something that got put in a stage. It was not impossible, some shooters proved that. If it won or lost your match for you, welcome to what we as competitors have to accept and move on to do better next time. Come to think of it, I know there was a swinging bridge with pistol at Ozark (last year?) and a moving platform of some sort with rifle at CMMG (the past 2 years?) so, hard as it may be, we should have seen this coming....
  3. In college a certain someone messed with my pickup one time (you know how hard flour is to clear out of you HVAC ductwork) so in retaliation was in order. He drove a little 2 wheel drive ranger. Loaded it down with tractor weights one night and proceded to chain his axle to his frame. Remove tractor weights and you get a pretty solid suspension.
  4. Fantastic match. Great stages and lots of rounds. Thanks to everyone who made this match happen.
  5. Until they try 200 yd flashers shooting from the hip...
  6. I shoot my 3 gun pistol in limited minor for a few weeks before a major 3 gun to get back in sync with it since I usually shoot SS major. Minor is where accuracy counts, I like the challenge of it, some others may too. It makes me focus a little more on gettings A's, which is good practice for whatever your shooting.
  7. My SX3 has seen thousands of rounds without problem. I replaced the piston last fall, but I had a major coming up and I didn't want to risk it breaking during that. I love the gun, it fits me. If you like the gun, set it up and shoot it.
  8. Had mine undercut yesterday. Makes a big difference in feel and the way it shoots for me.
  9. Yeah, that was me......the other Chad. That was a helluva surprise. Still managed to spin it in two. Would have loved to have shot that one again!! I didn't want to out you, figured you could do it yourself if you wanted. You musta got a little to used to those light trap loads...
  10. Thanks to Ken, Larry, all RO's and the young men helping paint and setup on each stage. I enjoyed this match a lot, have shot it 2 years before and I must say it was nice to be able to keep everything dry this year. I liked the challenge of the shotgun and pistol targets damn near sharing the same target stand, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was kind of a "what choke do you dare run" for the shotgun part of the match to me. My shotgun saw everything from cylinder for stage 9 to full on 1 and 2. I can't really think of any complaints about the match. (except my inability to hit anything with a rifle) The penalties, flying clays, 4" plates that spin sideways (I didn't see it once), 1 hit in B not counting, was the same for everyone. If it had been different, stage times might have been lower, but they would have been lower for everyone. Chad, sorry about your scope, I heard about it and now I got to see it. Nice job sucking it up and moving on. I did also see one shooter get surprised by his turkey loads and almost fell off the platform on the spinner stage. If you have it on video, yes, thats me laughing in the backround.

    DQ?

I am sure they are training for an upcoming hollywood action film....
  12. Check the single stack photo thread in the gallery section of the forum. I know there are some in there.
  13. 124 gr precisions over roughly 4.3 of 231. Don't remember the exact charge weight or OAL, would have to look at my notes. I put them through the chrono again yesterday, 1050 to 1100fps.
  14. Please show me exactly where in the rulebook the specific penalty for leaving the start box is defined. We can't mold the rules to fit our belief of what is right or wrong, should or shouldn't be allowed, what should be penalized and how. The rules are pretty specific on the when, how, and how many when it comes to penalties. A big clue is that if the offense warranted a DQ, it wouldn't be in chapter 8. It would be in chapter 10...... 10.3.1- "A competitor who commits a safety infraction or any other prohibited activity..." Does 8.3.1.1 not define a prohibited action? He did not ask permission, I watched the video several times over, nothing was said between the two. He just walked away. I agree the RO should have stopped him. I see shooters here and there who need something from their bag or need to get rid of something after make ready. Don't know if I've ever seen another shooter refuse to help out with whatever they need.
  15. Any pics of both the mag pouch and holster? Also, is there any way to cant the 773s out some? I don't have any pics right now. If I remember when I get home I will take one and post it. To cant them out I would just use a shorter spacer on the bottom and cut angles on the spacers. If you do this though you have to make sure you don't violate the 2" rule.
  16. As that RO I would have not let him leave the box. It doesn't look like the shooter said anything to the RO, just turned and walked away. The only reason we know where the shooter went is because it shows it in the video. What if it didn't? If a shooter says nothing, how would any RO know where they are going with a loaded gun? In my mind, by the rulebook, that is a DQ for leaving the start location. 8.3.1.1
  17. Turns out lighter mainsprings did not help. What I found was the extractor was contacting the inside of the hole and filing off a little behind the hook allowed it to move inward more to get more contact with the brass. Still not throwing it as far as other guns, but its better than it was.
  18. I assume you mean firing pin stop, that is rounded quite a bit. The loads have been through the chrono recent enough to know they are that power factor. I am going to try the lighter mainspring today if I get a chance. I am still wondering if anyone has any idea why it would eject a loaded round several feet when I rack the slide by hand, but doing the same with just a piece of brass puts it at my feet.
  19. If it matters, here are the basic specs. STI 2011 9mm 5", Bull barrel, Ed brown internals, 11 lb recoil spring, 19 lb main spring. Gun has had several thousand rounds through it and has been 100% reliable with anything I feed it. The problem is the empty brass barely comes out of the gun, it'll land within a foot or so of where I am standing. Racking the slide by hand will send a loaded round a good distance, but a piece of brass by hand does the same as when fired. I tested it with an 8 lb recoil spring, thinking a faster slide would help, but it was no different. My ejector is not broken, my extractor tension is good, ammo is about 132 PF, and everything seems to line up properly when I check cycling by hand. As soon as I get time I was thinking of trying a lighter mainspring. I am usually not one to mess with something that works, but I guess I never noticed it until now, and it's bugging me. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
  20. That's a good laugh for the morning! Although there are a few disturbing images in that video...
  21. They were in the nuts and bolts drawer in the hardware section. I think they were just labeled nylon spacers. I got the ones with a half inch outside diameter to make the pouches a little more stable. The screws were either #8 or #10, best to bring one along and match it up.
  22. Here our stage count is usually dictated by how many bays the club has. 4-5 is normal, for weekday and weekend matches, difference being the weekend matches usually have more difficult stages because there is more setup time. Later in the year the few clubs holding weeknight matches will reduce the number of stages or make them shorter so we get done before dark.
  23. I hit the home depot drawers for nylon spacers and the screws. I just took one of the screws with to find the same thread. Spaced the mag pouches out 3/4 and the holster out 1/2.
  24. Ah yes, mass media. Piece bits and pieces together to make it look how they want to, and not tell the full story. I don't know the full stories of the 2 injuries/death from this "malfunction" that they mention in these videos, but anyone else note that one of laws of gun handling was not being followed. Never point your gun at anything your not willing to destroy.
  25. An AK will work just fine. Seen several people using them before. The best shotgun is one you already have. That way you can get a taste of 3 gun and upgrade later. If you don't have a shotgun already, just about any pump or auto will work fine. You might even be able to find someone willing to borrow you one for the match.
