  1. Great match. I worked stage 5 with a great group and learned a lot from the top shooters. Most impressive were the junior shooters! And the prize table! I finished 140ish in TO and still got a handgun from the prize table. Looking forward to next year. Thanks to all the sponsors!
  2. How long have you had that Nordic tube on there? I notice it doesnt have a recessed area for a clamp on it. Thanks, Hadley O. The tube is a first generation nordic tube from my 930, maybe 2-3 years old. I used it to get one more shell over the +5 I ordered for the 1301 because I didn't want the +7.
  3. My 1301 with a +6 nordic, 24"barrel. shot just a few slugs after work at 25 and 75 yards, IM choke Shot some win light 1145 at plates, recoil about the same as my 930 but the gun is lighter. can't wait to shoot the FNH match with it.
  4. I new to the Beretta/Benelli operation but you are starting with the hammer cocked and bolt closed correct? I also learned that the Nordic MX extension tube cap end threads are the same diameter and the coupling end so the tube is reversable. My Mossberg 930 Nordic tube has smaller diameter threads on the cap end. I see some guys looking for +1, +2 caps but I think there different between the original Nordic and the MX. Beretta claims it comes shipped with a cyl choke(edit, my mistake shipped with IC), I'll need to check/mic mine.
  5. Ok, got it, I didn't know about the button. Empty chamber start was looking a little dicy without knowing about/using the button!
  6. Just got mine today, installed a +6 nordic which holds 10 slugs or 11 shot. Coming from a 930 I need to figure out the loading thing, especially empty chamber start. Same as benelli? Which I don' have a clue about either.

  8. See post #15 by KurtM, still might not matter much between 21" to 24".
  9. It might not be important in our game but I do remember post where a very knowlgeble shooter said the pattern from a longer barrel would be "better" with the same choke. I think it was kurtM but I could be wrong, maybe he or another "real shotgun shooter" will comment. My above comments are just hearsay until confirmed. my 1301, 24" arrives tomorrow! for me instaling a +5 made the 24 my choice since the is already light comared to my 930 turkey.
  10. See post #2of this thread for pics with +5.
  11. Just read the directions for my new 1301 nordic mx ext. Says to start at 16", no minimum listed. Says spring lenght critcal to semi-auto function. My 930 worked for a couple of years at 9" and I tested it down to 4", no problems. I'll be starting at 10".
  12. Dan, Beretta atvertises 5+1, for those that can only load 9, what length is your spring? thanks
  13. Rounds? Maybe 1500-2000? Just a guess. Issues? - The hammer end of the firing pin mushrooms over time, replaced it once and now beginning to mushroom again. This may be something that stops and may not affect the function in the future. - Until I cleaned the gas rings properly it would light strike, haven't had any light strikes since the first year shooting the gun. - It might be the humidity here but if I don't clean and oil the piston, rings, and mag tube immediately after shooting it forms rust very quickly. I store it in a metal gun safe with a electric heating rod. All other guns in the cabnet are rust free. - My biggest complaint is lack of availability of replacement parts. It would be nice to replace all springs and piston rings each season. - I would say the build quality is less than I expected. I own a 20ga Mosberg 500 maybe from 1972? It was a cheap gun at the time but compared to the 930 it looks like a swiss watch. I just recently dissasembled and cleand the 500 pump and the internal parts machining is just much better than the 930.
  14. Jumping ship on the 930, ordered a Beretta 1301 yesterday. My 930 Turkey has worked well for the past 3(?) years after I figured out how to clean it. Just think it's time to upgrade to a better, lighter gun. The 930 will become my backup.
  15. Ordered one yesterday, +5 extension and choke tubes on the way. Working the FNH match and hope to have it ready to shoot there if I can run some rounds through it and find POI for slugs. My 930 turkey will become my backup. Just time to upgrade and improve reliability and longevity.
  16. I always read the rules, force of habit (nuclear power thing). After some further thought from my first post; in only shooting 3 major matches so far I have seen the rules change from those posted once during the match and once within maybe a week or so before the match concerning shotgun capacity. The first time was my first major match and I don't remember the details. The second time the rules were posted maybe 2-3 months before the match (8+1max,8 in the tube max) but changed (8+1,8 in the tube at the buzzer) within maybe 2 weeks of the match. So after shooting half the match I was a shooter load 2 after the buzzer, I asked the RO and he said sure it's OK. After being burned twice I always read the rules the night before the match and I am “that guy” who always asks about shotgun loading/capacity limits on each shotgun stage when it is not clear in the stage brief. I’m never going to win a major match, I don’t care what the rules are for a given match, I just want them to be the same and enforced the same for all shooters.
  17. If you are using a DOT or reticle to range targets during a 3 gun stage you are already toast. Range them with a rangefinder before you shoot.
  18. Just an observation from a new shooter (2 major matches last year), if this is for 3 gun and you will be shooting out to 300, 400, possibly 500yds, then a simplified BDC reticle is a better choice than a reticle marked in MOA or mils. Speed is what you are looking for and a BDC that works with your rifle and load are what most successful (tactical optics) 3 gun shooters use. I am struggling right now with choosing to use my Leupold CQT 1-3 with a very simple BDC (CM-R2, 200 zero) over my Leupold Mark AR 3-9 Mil/Mil (with 45 degree irons). If/when I buy a new scope it will have a simple BDC reticle such as the Vortex JM-1/Leupold CM-R2. Even the Vortex EBR-556 would be too busy for me. If shooting the best you can in 3-gun is your goal, review what the pros are using. On the other hand I shoot with a very proficient shooter who uses a higher power scope (3-9 I think) and knows his holds and I would never be able to out shoot him. Also some very good iron sight shooters use a 300 zero and just use holds for each distance. Speed with hits is the goal.
  19. My thought is that if you don't know the rules your are just there for the fun of it and don't care about the outcome or any negative thing(s) that happen as a result of you not knowing the rules. A "competitor" on the other hand knows the rules and the consequences of not complying with them. Being a competitor doesn't mean you need to finish in a certain place, just that you care enough to plan, prepare, practice and try to improve.
  20. I used the SG3 until switchig to the jp about a month ago. Sg3 is not adjustable, significant pretravel and creep compared to jp (adjustable). Sg3 has the potential to double when pretravel is reduced with a grip setscrew especially with a loose grip on the gun such as bench shooting. Just an opinion but SG3 and jp use the stock hammer and if the sear surface isn't smooth they will have a poor feel, creep. As I understand it, most stock hammers/sears are only surface hardened so working/smoothing them is? So I think a trigger that includes a hammer/ upgrading the hammer when installing those that don't include the hammer would be the best plan.
  21. Surely I can hit them if those iron sight guys can right? Not so much!
  22. So I assume you came to the conclusion that the piston in sticking by: - assembling the gun without the forend and hold the barrel in place. - cycle the piston by hand, it should snap back to the full forward position (your post indicates yours does not) - try twisting the barrel to see if there is a sweet spot where the piston returns freely. If there is a sweet spot you may be able to clean, polish and reassemble with the sweet spot in mind and improve the function. As far as polishing the mag tube, I believe the ring to mag tube clearance/seal (piston ring ID) is just as important ring to cylinder (piston ring OD) so I would not seek to open either of these clearances too much.
  23. Stupid question, After looking at the stages, the two that have long range rifle say 75 to 350yds. Stage 1 seems to have long range rifle but no distance range listed. Any idea of the max rifle distance and target MOA? Seems last year there was a MGM flasher at maybe 425? I know all stages are subject to change, just trying to get an idea besides "be able to hit 2 MOA out to 500yds". In other words, is there an MOA goal for stage setup like 4 MOA? Trying to deciede on sight/optic setup. Thanks, David E.
  24. I have the ports on my 930 covered with shim stock jb weld and use a nordic mag tube clamp to cover it. I was a welder back in the day and I might consider tig welding them with a copper backer as previously mentioned but mine has not moved going on 3 years including a significant number of slugs through a lm choke. Back in the day to beconsidered a "welder"you had to be able to tig a beer can back together (steel) and nicu weld cast iron. If you find a "welder" they could weld them no problem.
  25. I've shot 4 major matches in the past 2 years and several local matches coming from about 8 years of pistol shooting. I am a competitive shooter not just there for the fun of it. I run 10+1, 140mm, and a 48rd AR mag if needed, $400 optic. I don't think equipment or lack of the latest and greatest gear keeps a new shooter from competing but the fear of poor performance does (especially type As). Many use the excuse that they don't have x,y,z equipment when they really just don't have the desire to compete and not perform well (back up their mouth). I think 3 gunners coming from another competitive shooting background won't let the poor performance aspect stop them and realize the difference in score is influenced much more by practice than going from a $2,000 3-gun gear setup to a $6,000 gear setup. I would have no problem with TO being 15/16/17rd pistol, 8+1 and 30rd. It would have the potential to do two things: 1. Remove the excuses for new shooters (don’t think it would really matter, their decision to compete is not dependent on their gear), 2. Allow new shooters to do a more direct comparison of their performance to the better shooters in the same class. Like I said I shoot 10+1 when allowed and considered 12+1 but would be just as happy with 8+1 if that were the rule.
