  1. Theres several ways you can improve the fit, as has been mentioned peening, loctite, or the adding of a shim.

Here is a link with some information with links to lots of information.

Or get the book THE COMPETITIVE AR-15 BUILDER'S GUIDE by Zediker

But don't tell anyone because its all a secret.

I've used both green and red locktite without problems. Just takes heat to get them apart.

  2. I may not be a real ninja commando like Chills but parts ain't parts. Yes there are relatively few makers of uppers and lowers and those manufacturers do sell them too many different companies but that does not mean all rifles are equal. For example take a LPK from DPMS or Bushmaster and dump its contents next to one from Colt and if you can't tell the difference it's because you don't want to see it. Does it matter, maybe not, I guess it depends on whats important to you. The areas where the so called upper tier manufacturers get a leg up on their so called lower tier competitors is in quality of components, care of assembly and quality control. Are they perfect, no, just better.

I would bet that more potential shooters of ARs have been turned off of the platform by companies such as Bushmaster with their improperly staked or unstaked bolt carrier keys than you can shake a stick at. Newbie is all proud of his new AR takes it home and after a shooting a mag the thing won't work since the key is loose, he can't figure it out and the guy behind the gun counter doesn't know any more than he does so he sells the rifle and has been badmouthing that unreliable POS AR 15 ever since.

You usually get what you pay for and AR's are no exception. Some of the lower priced guns will run just fine, some won't. The chances of getting a bad gun with the upper tier manufactures is less and they usually have better customer service. So it all boils down to what you expect to get from your rifle and how much are you willing to pay to get it. It does not take a $2500 rifle to be competitive but there's nothing wrong with having one if that's what you want.

I don't own any guns from Noveske, Colt, etc because I build my own. I have been working on these guns since I first attended armorer school in 1981. I use DPMS lowers because I can buy them at the base PX. I use whatever upper Brownells has that interests me. I also know what to look for to make sure they meet my needs. I also always use quality parts.

  3. how about the steel ones, any good?

I don't think the Glock steel sights are much better than the plastic ones. Rounded corners on the rear sight channel and front sight. I like sharp corners on sights. Front sight is too wide for my liking also. Same problem with the Glock night sights.

  4. Those of you that are using the Load 2 technique, what modifications are you making to the loading port of your shotgun? Any different than what I've seen for weak hand relaods? I am shooting a Winchester SX2 and just recieved my belt and want to get my gun set up so I can start practicing. Thanks.

  5. In my G35 I like WSF powder. Usually shoot 180 grn Zero with 5.7 grns OAL 1.130. I tried the Berry 180FPDS plated and they wouldn't feed reliably so never got a load dialed in. Just purchased a box of HSM 180 RN plated and hope to get a load worked up soon using WSF, since its a plated bullet should take less powder.

  6. If you happen to be in the area and would like to join us we will be holding a Special Classifier Match on Aug 14th. Registration starts at 9am and shooting starts at 10. We will be shooting 5 classifiers and shooters will be allowed to classify in two divisions.

    Classifiers:

    03-07 Riverdale Standards

    09-04 Pucker Factor

    09-09 Lightning and Thunder

99-56 On the Upper Pad II

    99-09 Long Range standards.

We will also be holding our monthly match with 4 stages on the 13th. Times are the same.

For more information contact me through the board.

  7. A lot of shooters that have longer OAL such as in a 2011 use Titegroup, N320, etc. If your

magazine restricts your OAL like it does in my Glock (1.135), try WSF. I switched last

fall from Titegroup and preliminary testing showed it to be more consistant. I like the way

it shoots but need to do some more chrono testing when the sun gets high enough after break up

to get my velocities dialed in.

    Where you at in AK?

  8. I have Glock sights on a 22 and Trijicon on a 23. I prefer the Trijicons. They have sharper corners on the rear sight notch and I seem to be able to get a better sight picture when shooting in light, the Glocks seem to be rounded and fuzzier. The finish on the Glock rear sight wears off quickly and I have to blacken them often or I get a lot of glare in light. My near vision isn't what it used to be but and Trijicons just seem to focus better for me. I took a file to the sides of the Glock front and narrowed it a bit and that helped. The inserts on the Trijicons look a litle smaller and more defined than the Glock sights.
