Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Here's one I just made for a friends' Tanfoglio Gold Custom. It attaches to the right side only so that the top end can be taken off without removing the slide racker. BR, Perttupp
  2. Once I had some friends shooting with my guns and struggling to hit a 8" plate at 100 meters with an AR-15... I took my 9mm and put one round in the magazine, chambered it and while saying something like "oh come on, it's not that hard" squeezed the trigger and hit the plate. One of those lucky hits that silenced the crowd and dropped some jaws Come to think of it, that wasn't even the furthest pistol shot I've made. It was at a pepper popper from a 150 metes away with a CZ Kadet .22. After a practice session with a friend, I challenged him to shoot the popper at 75m and we ended up at the range limit of 150m after a while. At 100m we could still hit maybe 8/10. Challenging yourself to try the "impossible" is fun!
  3. I'm not a GM, but I'd like to think I have a pretty snappy trigger finger if it needs to be. Here's a video of a hoser stage at a competition last summer. Fastest splits are .10-.11. Once or twice I've managed to get the timer to show 0.09 but I don't really think it matters. Just shoot as fast as you can hit and take the time out of everywhere else but the shooting. http://perttupp.kuvat.fi/kuvat/BE/FILE0024.MOV BR, Perttupp

  5. Thanks! One thing came to mind, if someone is looking to purchase the Kimber conversion kit (upper only): test before buying, if it fits your frame rails. I've tried the Kimber with a couple of different guns and so far my (loose-railed?) Armscor has been the only one which it fits, rather nicely I might add. STI rails seem to be too wide. And I wouldn't recommend cutting the Kimber slide unless you can also reanodize it... Hmm, maybe I'll have to try a couple different single stack guns of my friends' next. Would've liked to use it on top of my new open gun though... BR, Perttupp
  6. My Kimber Rimfire conversion on top of my standard division frame (Armscor 9mm, replica of a Para-Ord. P18.9 wide frame. And yes, it probably could use rebluing...). Because of the difference in the magazine locking with Para/STI mags, I couldn't use the STI conversion magazines. I didn't let that bother me much, though - took some crappy mec-gar magazines, cut the feed lips away and fit the single stack .22 magazine in the wide tube The bottom end spring cap has a set screw which centers the single stack magazine to the floor plate of the wide magazine. I also tinkered with the internals to get the capacity up to 15 rounds. I have zero regrets with the purchase, it takes 20 seconds to swap uppers and the Kimber shoots a nice <1" group at 25 meters (~27.3yds) with CCI/Federal Standard Velocity ammo. I haven't bothered trying any match ammo, I'm happy with the accuracy already Oh, and perhaps the best thing is that the whole slide cycles so I can rack it from the front like I'm used to with the "full size" upper. The recoil is also more like normal, compared to the other conversions where only a portion of the slide moves.
  7. Finally, my 9-major project is ready! First build - learned a lot, cursed a lot STI frame, slide, trubor barrel and a bunch of small parts from various manufacturers (EGW, Ed Brown, SVI, STI) and a lot of hours on the tools. Oh, and the C-More mount I made myself from a solid block, because, well... I could. My hands have rather strong opinions on how a gun is supposed to feel in them ergonomics wise, so I really don't show any mercy to nice quality parts or designs if they don't feel right for me. For example the STI frame/beaver angle is too shallow in my opinion so I carved it deeper to get a higher grip. And the Ed Brown wide thumb safeties had a nasty sharp radius in the rear so it too got to taste my Dremel... and don't even get me started on the grip! Here in Finland we have to license all our firearms and I didn't want the make of my gun to be "STI" in the license card - after all, I made it, not them! (granted, from their parts) Some years ago a friend struggled with finding a suitable gun and frustrated, said "Someone should start making pistols in Finland and the gun shop's name should be Perkele Arms." Later, I happened to ask him for a suggestion what I'd call my new open pistol so he replied "It's Perkele Arms, there are no other options!" I believe if any Finnish word is known everywhere, that's the one So, ladies and gentlemen, here it is - Perkele Arms 2011 More pics of the project (with Finnish captions) here, if interested: http://jumi.lut.fi/~ppiirone/kuvat/2011-04_Ouppeni/ BR, Perttupp
  8. A friend of mine has a Trubor blank with no ports cut into it and the rifling extends all the way through the comp. I have a T-2 Trubor barrel which was crowned already, but the blank needs a little bit more work.
  9. Oh, ok. It looked like it could've been a Trubor blank but after a more thorough second look it just seemed like it as you had cut the first port into the barrel steel also. Now I (think I) see it's a cone comp on a thin barrel. I would've appreciated tips on reaming and crowning a Trubor, though Anyway, nice build! BR, Perttupp
  10. Wow, you really took the excess weight out of the back of the slide, looks awesome. What did it end up weighing at? I did my 9-major project with a sort of a similar approach with a ball end mill cutting along the length of the slide but only at the front of the slide, without punching any additional holes into it. Also, did you make the comp out of a TruBor blank? How did you ream the rifling out of the comp and crown the end of the barrel? BR, Perttupp
  11. One good solution in my opinion is to keep the consistency with white no-shoot papers and metals, then paint the scoring metal targets yellow or blue to have a clear contrast with the back berm and hc/ns colors. Both yellow and blue also work decently with red dots and black iron sights. At club matches we sometimes also use black paint for scoring metal targets, but then we don't have any black hard cover mixing things up. In the end, so long as the difference between the shoot and no-shoot targets is clear, I'm happy!
  12. Hi! I use the Contour's "Profile Mount" with my ContourHD and MSA Sordin earmuffs. It's a nice low profile mount and you can buy it either left or right sided, but it requires earmuffs that have a flat surface on the side. Before they got the profile mount out, I had the goggle strap mount jury rigged with zip ties to the (rigid plastic) headband. Later I glued the flat surface mount directly to the side of my earmuffs. Be creative, there's a solution to everything HTH, BR, Perttupp
  13. Greetings from Finland! What a day it was on Sunday - first an excellent level 2 pistol match, then the amazing ice hockey world championship finale and a crushing victory against our dear enemy, Sweden! I've browsed the BE forums for some time now, but never posted so here goes nothing. A couple of minutes of shooting fun In the video I'm shooting an Armscor 9mm in standard division. Hoping to get my 9-major open project completed soon, maybe I'll post a couple of pics of that here as well. perttupp.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Mikkeli+Practical+XIX/Mikkeli_XIX.mp4 BR, Perttupp
