  1. I've got one, but in .45. The gun shoots lasers as far as I'm concerned. It does take several thousand rounds to "break in", as the lockup and slide to frame and barrel fit is extremely tight. I have had some reliability issues, mainly with bad reloads but I think the gun was damaged by them somehow. It spent 6 months getting "fixed" by Irv and I had it hardchromed. When it came back it was shiny and just as unreliable even with factory loaded ammo. All in all I'm quite disappointed, with the money I spent it and the time its spent in Irv's hands I expect it to run like a champ. Just now I decided to send it over to Benny Hill and have him tune it for reliability.
  2. Well I spoke with Benny a few hours ago, he seemed willing to help. I just got back from FedEx so hopefully in a few weeks I'll have something working.
  3. I've been shooting a few local events, mainly steel with a few USPSA in there. But with all the problems I've encountered in terms of technique, reloading, and equipment I figured I would "document" so to speak everything I learn and try. So far here are my setups: Glock 35: Lone Wolf Barrel Glockworx Fulcrum Trigger Glockworx Titanium Striker Arredondo Basepads giving 20+1 Sevigny Sights BarSto 45 2011 "The Irv": Built by Irv Stone himself! .45 Ramped Bull Barrel Bomar sights w/ Fiber optic front Each platform has its benefits and drawbacks. The 2011 of course has a natural pointing angle, a sweet and crisp single action trigger, and added weight which help control recoil. The G35 is nowhere near the tack driver the Irv is, but it runs and runs and runs.....plus parts are cheap and easily upgraded by any novice. Funny side story, my father has a Colt Combat which he bought for a Richard Heine project but Heine got out of the business so to speak. Instead he met Terry Tussey which turned the gun into one of his full signature models. I will admit that out of the dozens of handguns I have shot this one out tack drives anything I have ever shot, and is more reliable than any service gun I have ever used (Sigs, Glocks, M&P). Long story short he nicknamed his the "Hussey", he wanted a Heine and got a Tussey. He asked what my .45's nickname will be and being the creative type I am came up with the Irv. So the Irv it has remained ever since. Its got a ring to it when you're out on the range and you need to either praise or despise the gun depending on what the circumstances dictate. Currently this gun is having several extraction problems which I am fairly positive resulted from abuse while I was learning how to reload. The Hussey will literally feed and fire just about everything you can swing at it, the only failure out of several thousands of rounds was from a primer stuck in sideways. The Irv on the other hand is much more particular, and subsequently reloads for the Hussey would fire fine while the Irv would jam, misfire, and double feed consistently (my fault entirely!). I was able to get away with some hideously sloppy reloads for the Hussey such as loading long, loading short, roll-crimping, over crimping, under crimping....you name it I've done it at some point and the gun fed and fired them without a hiccup. For this reason I thought reloading rounds was more or less an "eye ball" measure process, with the exception being powder throw. I really want to spend the next couple year chasing after Grandmaster, and just be the overall best shooter I can be. Here is a list of items that I am currently working on to better myself, and I hope the list grows: 1) Overall athleticism - Former sprinter, wrestler, footballer. With a left knee I've blown 3 times I've lost all athletic ability, but am slowing regaining it back. 2) Dry fire. There is a website I go to that has several drills 3) Presentation/reloading drills. These are mainly done with the above. 4) Static range practice. I normally go once a week or so and fire about 2-300 rounds at various distances, speeds. I've been trying to duplicate Matt Burkett's timing drill. 5) Going to as many events as I can. I think it would be a good thing to keep a list upfront of issues located in other threads, whether pending or resolved: The Irv: Ejection Problems
  4. Its weird, this gun will feed lots of ammo (HPs, LSWC, LRN, 185gr, 200gr, 230gr)...its ejection though has always left much to be desired though. I'll be giving him a ring, mainly from responses like this! Do you happen to shoot Limited or Limited-10?
  5. It will only kick rounds out if I rack it slowly. I have a 15lb recoil spring, no shockbuffs. After installing the new ejector I'm fairly certain my extractor is the culprit. Tomorrow I'll be calling Terry Tussey and Benny Hill, I might try and get an aftec installed as well as a full reliability job.
  6. So I'm googling right now, but if someone could chime in real quick and let me know if there are any special checks/ tuning that needs to be done I'd appreciate it. This is the Ejector I'm using.
  7. There wasn't a pin, its drilled but all I see is light. I took a mini torch to it and the old ejector popped right out. The brazos is in there now
  8. Thanks, maybe I'll try it out myself. I see the hole where the ejector normally gets pinned but all I see is light. I'm guessing I'll need to heat it up, put the ejector in a vise, and wiggle the frame to get it off?
  9. Hey guys, I've been having a serious problem lately with my 2011. Right now its single shot at its best, and when I fire a round the brass is held into the extractor and never gets kicked out. Would simply swapping ejectors out help? I have a ejector from brazos sitting on my desk, but would rather not throw it in myself. What really gets me is Irv Stone had this gun for 6 months for a hardchrome job and said it was working fine and shipped it back to me. I've tried my ammo, and factory ammo with the same problem. I've also tried different hands, different, mags, and different shooters but this gun is unshootable. Would a guru like Benny Hill or Terry Tussey be able to get this running like a champ? EDIT: I've also tried retensioning the extractor, but that doesn't seem to help either.
  10. Reloading is another addiction already! My friends didn't understand why on earth I would reload, until they shot the match with me and went through half of their year supply of factory ammo . I did have an adrenaline dump my first few stages which caused poor grip & trigger control. It actually took another 3 shooters going after me before my nerves calmed down.
  11. Hey Everyone, I'm just reporting in after shooting my first ever USPSA match this weekend. First and foremost I had a blast and learned A TON! Everyone was very helpful, walking me through the stage and giving me pointers on how to attack certain areas of a stage. I think I was 23 out of 36, and the great thing is there was noticeable improvement after each stage I went through. My very first stage started with a Texas Star! I had only ever seen one on youtube up until this weekend and it was quite the challenge. I should have some videos and I think I'll be posting a range diary to keep track of progress/lessons learned. The only negative thing that happened was a giant pepper popper falling down smashing my big toe when I was resetting steel behind it (OUCH!). Anyways, I just thought I'd share a little after my first event...and let everyone know I'm here and I'm hooked!
  12. I needed one! Now I absolutely hate shooting my g35 which makes me feel dirty because of how well its served me!
  13. After 4,000 rds of unique I learned never to try a new powder in bulk again! I've made up several batches of duds trying to work up a load, maybe about 1000 in total...but thats just haste on my end. Now I stick with the Lee Handloader for making new loads, within 10 rds I've found the velocity I want, the next 10 helps with deciding if its still what I want, and after that I make about 30 and pound them out with drills. If all is good I make up about 500, making very sure I pay attention to the notes I took at the range!
  14. I noticed a similar problem while reloading 9mm for the first time, it turns out I didn't lower the drop into the press enough. At first I thought it was inconsistent "knock", but once I managed to get the case up as far as I can my measurements were dead on 3 out of 4 drops everytime. I was using Bullseye fwiw.
  15. Thanks for the advice guys! I definitely appreciate it!

    CZ TS Mag Rebuilds

Does anyone know of where to buy mag rebuilds for a CZ Tactical Sport in .40? I've been searching for a few days now with no luck
  17. I am using a STI mag. I've always wondered if a Para mag will fit into a STI grip frame with a little work, 18 reloadable .45 ACP is amazing. Yes, an Para mag will fit in an STI, but, not right. Back in 2004, I had two open guns, and was shooting my STI at a match and having jams with my "big stick". I had a gunsmith take a look, and he laughed and said I was using a Para mag. Yup, I got them mixed up. Do you think there was any way to get that mag to work? I'll be ordering a stock p1445 mag and play with it to see if it works. If it doesn't then it was an interesting experiment for me, if it does then I'll be happy that it did Yes, I am still using the grams follower with an 11-coil spring. I did gradually shave some material off the bottom of the follower though, and everything still works as it should at least with hand cycling. I will be heading down to the range this week to test it out with some live rounds. It is a beast loading that 16 round mag though! I'm not sure I noticed any immediate obvious difference with widening the tube using a vice, and the big results came with tuning the spring and shaving off a tiny bit on my follower (it was that last shave that allowed the 16th round pop in!).

  19. I did just a touch using a vice, in all honesty I think tuning the spring helped the greatest...strange because I had no faith in that particular step.
  20. So yesterday I got a little bored and wanted to see how many .45 rounds I can stuff in a 140mm tube with Grams spring/follower and a Dawson SNL pad. I originally got 14 in reloadable, with two getting 15 reloadable. I bought the Dawson mag tuning kit and went to work after a quick trip to my HW store for a vice. Sure enough I was able to get 15 reloadable in a few mags and able to stuff a 16th round on another...which I guess isn't too bad since I plan on playing in LTD. The crappy part is a bubble wrapped all my mags to send out for tuning prior, and grabbed a few to test things out on. Well in haste between moving/vacation I threw away my box in a cleaning session that still had 2 mags in it! Now I don't quite know what to feel...
  21. try 1911store.com I plan on picking some mainsprings up there myself.
  22. I've been trying to work a light load up for my Limited-10 STI in .45 with a BBL. I believe my recoil spring is just tooo stiff as it is and I'm not sure what it is rated it. Just as a reference, it took 5.4 grains of Unique with 200gr LSWC just to cycle the slide reliably! I would like to drop this load down to get my pistol to cycle. Are there any recommendations on spring brand/weight I should use?
  23. Sorry if this has been covered, but I've been searching for about an hour with little luck (weak search-fu?) Can a stock Para mag tube be modified (reasonably) to fit a S_I frame?
