  1. I am getting back into the shooting sports after about a 6 year layoff due to family priorities and will be running a G34 or an XDM in 5" and plan to shoot Production and 3Gun. I previously shot Limited and reloaded for an Edge in .40 major and am thinking I would like to start my 9mm venture with some of the same types of components- coated bullets, and clean burning powder (I previously used Precisions over N320). I am looking for thoughts on what coated bullets and what powders would be good for getting back into it. I dont have the time right now to order a bunch of samples and tweak it over the chrono with multiple trips to the range to work up the perfect load. I will adjust it to my gun but am really just looking for some help on a good starting point. Thanks in advance.
  2. Is it legal in production? Anybody running one?
  3. I use a little One Shot prior to running the cases through the press and have never worried about tumbling it off. No problems to date
  4. I bought a Stag 3G upper and then discount shopped for the parts and assembled the lower over the next few weeks. Ended up with a trigger and stock I like better than what comes with the complete Stag and was a little less expensive as well.
  5. That is correct- it is a Stag 3G and was purchased as an unrestricted model so it sounds as if a barrel vise, heat and a wrench may be the ticket. Good info and thanks again
  6. After reading a couple of recent posts on the 3G, it appears the comp is welded on? I have one and was planning on installing a Miculek as a replacement. I was hoping it was as simple as placing the barrel in a barrel vise, adding heat and removing..... Anyone have some advice on removing the stock comp? I would prefer to remove it myself but before I start cutting or grinding, I would appreciate hearing from you folks that have done this. Thanks in advance
  7. Used Ramshot Comp to make .40 major and was happy with it but had a chance to try N320 and it seemed like most of the hive was a fan of it. Got good performance from the N320 out of my Edge but it is snappier and more expensive so I am headed back to the RC
  8. Hmmm..... I love any excuse to get a new tool and that looks pretty slick. Thanks!
  9. For those of you that have lowered the case feeder, what did you use to make the cuts? Hacksaw? Dremel? Chopsaw? I see the OP used a pipe cutter but I don't have access to one so looking for other options. Thanks
  10. It just arrived yesterday and I plan to unbox and set it up this weekend. I will be loading .40 on it and already have a 550 that I am comfortable with but plan to switch that over to .223/556. Since this is my first experience with a 650, are there any tips or recommendations you could pass along? I bought the DVD from Dillon and had no issues setting up the 550 but figured those of you with more time on the 650 could share a little wisdom. Anything specific to watch out for? Thanks in advance- J
  11. Huge Jack Reacher fan and have read every book in the series..... Cruise cast as JR disgusts me and will not be watching this one....
  12. Thanks for the replies- interestingly enough I already had the VLTOR tube and the Tubbs spring queued up on my Midway wishlist to go along with a DPMS rifle buffer. Any recommendations for something different on the buffer? I appreciate the info and explanation on how buffer weight factors in to the equation.
  13. I am currently building out a Spike's stripped lower and will match it with a Stag 3G upper. My plan is to use a PRS or UBR stock and would like some thoughts on the buffer, tube and spring assembly. I think I am headed towards using the rifle buffer, but am not real sure and was looking for some guidance on matching up the assembly with this stock and upper. Thanks in advance on any specific recommendations that would work well- J
  14. I am installing a Hi-Viz fiber optic sight on my M2 shotgun and just removed the old (aftermarket F/O) sight I installed a couple of years ago. There is a dried smear of old Loc-Tite on the vent rib that I would like to remove prior to installing the new sight. A quick internet search indicates a variety of solvents and solutions to remove the adhesive but I am concerned about them damaging the finish on my black Benelli. Any suggestions on something to remove the residue without harming my blaster are greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. J BTW- it's Blue Loc-Tite
  15. I am going to pick up an upper receiver vice (action) block to work on my AR and a review of the available options on Midway and Brownells indicate there are several to choose from. Are they all the same and which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
  16. I am looking at Dawson's line of CRP (Competition Ready Pistols) STI Edges and am wondering how realistic it is to expect it to run right out of the box. I understand there will likely be some time spent matching my reloads and mags to the gun but for the most part, should it be reliable and not need additional work to make it consistently function? I have already seen a couple of stock STIs choke out of the box prior to getting sent off for work to make them run. The CRP really looks like a great deal, has the upgrades I would likely add anyway, and I love the idea of buying from a reputable forum dealer, but if I drop $2K on a blaster (no mags) and then need to have work done on it, I am starting to approach the custom gun price range...... Thanks in advance for the advice
  17. I am considering adding a case feeder to my 550B and have limited height above the press (built-in shelf above my relaoding bench). Could someone please advise how much higher the top of the case feeder is above the top of the powder reservoir when installed? Or if you have a strong mount, provide a total height of the case feeder above your bench? Thanks in advance.
  18. I have an older, out of warranty, P16-40 with a factory rear adjustable sight. The windage adjustment screw cap (cap on the left side of the rear sight if your are aiming it) flew off recently and I could not find it. I still have the windage adjustment screw but there is now a hole on the left side of the sight. I called Para and they advised me the rear sight is "outsourced" and they could not send me a replacement screw and their only option would be for me to send the gun back for complete sight installation. I am not interested in going that route so would anyone know an alternative source where I could possibly order a new sight screw? Thanks in advance.
  19. I have a Para P16 that has a fiberoptic front sight that has loosened up. Even after stripping, I don't see a set screw or any way to tighten it. Any help or guidance would be appreciated- thanks
  20. Is Salient offering the M1 builds or do they perform their magic when the customer sends the gun to them? Thanks
  21. I have a Dawson Precision on my P16 and have been happy with it

    P16 40 Mags

I picked up an older P16 awhile back that was already setup for Limited and it came with three high cap mags with what I believe are DP basepads (a light blue color and aluminum). I have had some work done on the gun and it is running pretty well right now but I would like to pick up a few more mags. It looks like DP carries the basepads but not the mag tubes. Should I plan on ordering the tubes from Para and pick-up the basepads from DP or is there somewhere I else I should look at getting the complete mags? Is it likely they will run right out of the box or will I have to get them tuned? Thanks in advance
  23. I am interested in finding an M2 with a 21" barrel in black and have looked at several of the auction and classified sites for a used one. It appears most of the M2s out there are new and have the longer barrels. Any suggestions on where to look for a used M2 or a new one already configured for 3 gun? Thanks in advance
  24. I appreciate all the good info and that is exactly what I was looking for. All this prompts a follow-up question about the right handed shotgun and the safety. I have never reversed a safety on a shotgun and have typically been OK shooting a right handed gun with the original safety. However, I would probably look at reversing the safety in this case. For those that have done this, what gun are you running and was it difficult to find a lefthanded safety?
