  1. I had the same concerns with mine...a compact 10MM, so I converted it to .40S&W and that's when the slide cracked.
  2. On mine, the slide cracked at the point where the slide gets bigger to house the recoil spring. Sent it in and in a couple of weeks, it was back with a blued slide on it, which is fine, but does the "wonder finish" contribute to these failures?
  3. Keep it up! I got started running 35 years ago and never looked back. After a couple of years, I settled in on 52 miles a week on a 7 days a week schedule and only recently, at the age of 75 had to back off to a walking regimen.
  4. Have you tried Universal? It burns clean and should give the 180 grainer the needed velocity.
  5. Thanks guys, but the follower is not the problem, it is the spring that protrudes over the guide rail inside the magazine body that gets hung up. After the first round is loaded, there is no problem.
  6. The magazines for my .40 cal Tanfoglio compact are producing a problem for me. The magazine/follower spring hangs up on the guide rail inside the magazine body making insertion of the first cartridge difficult. I know this is not a big deal, but it irritates me. Is there a cure for this problem,,,thanks for any thoughts on this.
  7. Well I got the Witness back today and it has the blue slide....which is fine with me. What is the story about the Wonder finish slides? Why were they dis-continued?
  8. OK guys, I didn't know about the EAA section....thanks
  9. Today, at the range, I was shooting my .40 S&W Witness and when I got done I could not rack the slide back. At home on the bench I found out why; the slide was cracked just at the juncture of the guide rod housing and the rest of the slide. The reload I was shooting was not a hot load at all but since I only shoot reloads, My thought is that any warrantee would be voided. Where can I buy a new slide for the Witness compact in the Wonder finish? Ant help would be appreciated......Joel
  10. Does anyone here know what size Uncle Mikes holster fits a Witness Compact .40 S&W pistol?
  11. I have a Tanfoglio Witness Compact in .40 S&W and I would like to buy a paddle holster for it. I am thinking Uncle Mikes. Do any of you guys know what size fits it?
  12. I have a Witness Compact in .40 S&W caliber. Recently I bought 2 magazines from Glen Zanders and was distressed to find that I had a lot of trouble getting the follower to depress enough to load the first round, but I got them loaded. Went to the range and enerything went fine except that the slide locked open without chambering the last round. The round was about 1/2 way out of the Magazine when the slid locked open. I took the magazine apart and turned the spring(s) around 180 degrees so that it was not pushing so hard on the front of the follower. Now they work perfectly and loads a lot easier too. Question: Has this problem occurred with anyone else? Did they get assembled wrong? All I know is that it works now, but I would feel better if I knew what the score is on this....thanks.
  13. Thanks for that....I will be back. In the mean time, I am considering making a spacer as you described but with the angle machined on it to match the angle in the frame. I am considering making it out of drill rod which is pretty tough even before heat treating. Do you think that is a good idea? What angle are you referring to? The front and back surfaces of the spacer should be parallel. I made mine out of some mild steel tubing. It doesn't need to be very hard or fancy. The bull barrel guns have a spring plug made out of aluminum... I am referring to the angle in the frame that engages the cone on the guide rod that Mr. Hennimg sells. If I just made a spacer like you discribe and machined the same angle that is on that rod, then placed the spacer between the spring and the head of my existing rod, wouldn't it have a similar effect?

  15. Your slide will most likely crack unless you get the proper amount of recoil reduction. The 20# Wolff spring isn't enough in most cases, so I suggest that people get a Springco Recoil reducer (which is a 2-stage guiderod). However they don't make it for the compacts. The solution that is "close" to acceptable is to make a spacer about 1/4-3/8" who's outer diameter is slightly larger than the spring, and who's inner diameter will go over the guide rod. You can't use too thick of a spacer or else it will make the spring bind, which will then cause your guidrod to start peening the metal where it seats. If you use this kind of spacer with a 20# spring it should work for medium 10mm loads. Anything hot will still make the slide hit the frame. Also, since you can't get the Sprinco rod, I would suggest you get the Henning guiderod and cut it down for your short slide. http://www.henningshootsguns.com/shop/upperparts.html Nealio...thanks for the info and the link, which explains the problem quite well indeed. My gun is a 10 MM Compact model for which I have purchased a 40 S&W barrel. When I shoot 40 S&W ammo in it, there seems to be no problem with beating the gun up since it was set up originally for 10MM ammo. It functions perfectly fine as a 40 S&W, so I kinda think I am just gonna leave it that way and sell the 10MM barrel. There is a full size 10MM auto Tanfoglio available and I think I will just buy that one and order one of the guide rods for it so that when I shoot the higher powered 10MM stuff I will be more appropriately equipped. Thanks again....
  16. I have a Witness Compact in 10MM that whacks the slide pretty bad when I shoot it with factory loads or with equivalent hand loads. I am wondering if there are heavier recoil springs available that I could buy to fix this problem. Does anyone here have any info on that please?
  17. I bought a 10MM Auto Witness Compact, and after firing it, decided that the full bore 10 was a little much in the compact. I bought a 40 S&W barrel and kept the 10MM magazine and it works just fine for me. I load the ammo to 1.135 OAL. I was not sure if I would get away with using the 10MM magazine or not, but after 100 rounds with zero feeding or ejection problems, I am pretty much convinced that the barrel is all I need for this conversion. This little gun is MUCH more fun to shoot as a 40, than it was as a 10MM. And the brass is MUCH easier to find and a LOT cheaper to boot. I went from just liking this gun, to loving it....:-)
  18. I have been thinking about getting a 22 conversion kit for my 10MM witness compact, but after accessing this site http://www.eaacorp.c...rsion-kits.html I am not at all certain that the conversion kit listed witt work on my gun. Do any of you guys have knowledge on this ?
  19. I happen to have A 10MM Tanfoglio Witness in what they call the compact frame (3.6" bbl). I happen to know where I can get a .40 S&W slide/bbl that is off a target model (4.something bbl) for a good price. Would a longer barrel and slide work on this gun?
  20. I have a Tanfoglio model GT380XE in 380 caliber. It looks to be in fine shape but I can't find any information on it. Anybody here familiar with this model?
  21. since the ammo shoots as expected in another gun, I think we can eliminate the ammo as the problem. There is something about this particular bbl in his gun that is causing the problem.....my guess would be that the bore is oversize and the lead bullets are not generating enough pressure for complete combustion of the powder.
  22. I would like to buy a Bianchi inside the waistband holster model 100 for my witness compact 10MM, but I cannot figure which size to buy. Do any of you know which size fits this gun?
  23. Does anyone here know what it actually takes to convert a Witness from 10MM to 40 S&W? I inquired to Tanfoglio and they said it takes the whole nine yards (slide, barrel, springs and magazine). Somehow, I have trouble understanding why the slide would need to be replaced too.....headspace perhaps?
