Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had the same concerns with mine...a compact 10MM, so I converted it to .40S&W and that's when the slide cracked.
  2. On mine, the slide cracked at the point where the slide gets bigger to house the recoil spring. Sent it in and in a couple of weeks, it was back with a blued slide on it, which is fine, but does the "wonder finish" contribute to these failures?
  3. Keep it up! I got started running 35 years ago and never looked back. After a couple of years, I settled in on 52 miles a week on a 7 days a week schedule and only recently, at the age of 75 had to back off to a walking regimen.
  4. Have you tried Universal? It burns clean and should give the 180 grainer the needed velocity.
  5. Thanks guys, but the follower is not the problem, it is the spring that protrudes over the guide rail inside the magazine body that gets hung up. After the first round is loaded, there is no problem.
  6. The magazines for my .40 cal Tanfoglio compact are producing a problem for me. The magazine/follower spring hangs up on the guide rail inside the magazine body making insertion of the first cartridge difficult. I know this is not a big deal, but it irritates me. Is there a cure for this problem,,,thanks for any thoughts on this.
  7. Well I got the Witness back today and it has the blue slide....which is fine with me. What is the story about the Wonder finish slides? Why were they dis-continued?
  8. OK guys, I didn't know about the EAA section....thanks
  9. Today, at the range, I was shooting my .40 S&W Witness and when I got done I could not rack the slide back. At home on the bench I found out why; the slide was cracked just at the juncture of the guide rod housing and the rest of the slide. The reload I was shooting was not a hot load at all but since I only shoot reloads, My thought is that any warrantee would be voided. Where can I buy a new slide for the Witness compact in the Wonder finish? Ant help would be appreciated......Joel
  10. Does anyone here know what size Uncle Mikes holster fits a Witness Compact .40 S&W pistol?
  11. I have a Tanfoglio Witness Compact in .40 S&W and I would like to buy a paddle holster for it. I am thinking Uncle Mikes. Do any of you guys know what size fits it?
  12. I have a Witness Compact in .40 S&W caliber. Recently I bought 2 magazines from Glen Zanders and was distressed to find that I had a lot of trouble getting the follower to depress enough to load the first round, but I got them loaded. Went to the range and enerything went fine except that the slide locked open without chambering the last round. The round was about 1/2 way out of the Magazine when the slid locked open. I took the magazine apart and turned the spring(s) around 180 degrees so that it was not pushing so hard on the front of the follower. Now they work perfectly and loads a lot easier too. Question: Has this problem occurred with anyone else? Did they get assembled wrong? All I know is that it works now, but I would feel better if I knew what the score is on this....thanks.
  13. Thanks for that....I will be back. In the mean time, I am considering making a spacer as you described but with the angle machined on it to match the angle in the frame. I am considering making it out of drill rod which is pretty tough even before heat treating. Do you think that is a good idea? What angle are you referring to? The front and back surfaces of the spacer should be parallel. I made mine out of some mild steel tubing. It doesn't need to be very hard or fancy. The bull barrel guns have a spring plug made out of aluminum... I am referring to the angle in the frame that engages the cone on the guide rod that Mr. Hennimg sells. If I just made a spacer like you discribe and machined the same angle that is on that rod, then placed the spacer between the spring and the head of my existing rod, wouldn't it have a similar effect?
