  1. Thanks all. Sounds like there's consensus that I need to rack-n-load with possibly dropping one in the chamber. For those of you dropping one in the chamber, how do you not screw with the rest of your loads? I'm running Taccom double deuces that I like to pull 4 from(but can pull 2) - do you just pull 2 and drop a shell or do you have a separate caddy for those instances or something else? Again - I've tried practicing pulling 4 and putting 1 round in the chamber, but it ends up being a cluster in the end as I can't keep the other 3 shells in alignment for loading into the tube. Maybe I just need more practice.
  2. Looking for some guidance. I started shooting Heavy Metal this year and am running a SuperNova with an 11 round tube. I've run into an issue now twice where I need to load from a hammer down condition and having difficulty as the gun 'unlocks' just enough for the bolt to interfere with the carrier and won't allow shells to be loaded. I'm attempting to dual or quad load from the strong hand with the stock pinned by my head. Scenario 1: Shoot 9 poppers on the left side - reload(per stage requirements) - shoot 9 poppers on the right side Scenario 2: Shotgun staged hammer down on an empty chamber loaded to division capacity need to run to gun and engage 10 targets(none overlap enough to get a 2 fer) For #1 after clearing the left side and fumbling for a bit trying to keep the action closed I ended up cycling the gun(empty), loading, and then cycling again to get a live round in. Obviously not ideal. I've practiced trying to drop one in the chamber and load the other 3 but that is not working for me. For #2 my plan was to load 2 as I approach the gun, which I was eventually able to do, but lost a few seconds as I thought I had the pump all the way forward but either I didn't or it crept on me. I've read up on the Arvid grind - which I have no problem doing - but it sounds as though others have run into feeding issues. The gun has been reliable so far so I would prefer not to introduce unnecessary reliability concerns especially if there is a software solution.
  3. 3. Taran and Arredondo are other options, but the Arredondo will not work with the SSS mag well 4. http://www.benstoegerproshop.com/S-W-M-P-Grip-Tape-Standard-Full-Size-Pistol-p/mp-gt.htm 3 for $10 shipped, heck of a deal.
  4. Both the Safariland 5197/5198 series and the 5.11 Thumbdrive work.
  5. To keep out of Open you would need to run offset irons for the close-in hoser stuff. I tried it once with a 2-8 and never went back. I'm sure with practice it works fine - but at least initially for me shooting the offset irons was one of the most un-ergonomic, uncomfortable, and non-intuitive ways to run - so much so that I preferred the lack of FOV shooting the scope at 2x than using them. The matches I attend don't get out much past 100 yards, so a dot actually works best for me. If I went to a match where most shots were smaller targets over 100 I might reconsider but as is the 2-8 sits in the unused scope bin.
  6. Me too. The Taccom guys are heavily involved in NSSF Rimfire(formerly Ruger Rimfire) and are really familiar with what works and doesn't with the platform. Note the changes they make to the conversion bolt: welded back plate, enhanced extractor and firing pin. Plus they came out with the reliability plug to assure the bolt is properly seated. I'm pretty sure they have the lightest upper - if that's what you're going after - as well as 3-gun analogs.
  7. M&P Compact 22 $249.99 http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/firearms/handguns/smith-wesson/m-p-22/s-w-m-p22-compact-22lr.html 1/2 price grip tape: http://www.benstoegerproshop.com/S-W-M-P-Grip-Tape-Standard-Full-Size-Pistol-p/mp-gt.htm http://www.benstoegerproshop.com/S-W-M-P-Compact-Magazine-Basepad-Grip-Tape-p/mp-compact-bp.htm
  8. I'm sure you could - probably more effort than it's worth. Anything can be done if you have enough time, skill, and/or money.
  9. Yep, works fine. Do a search for WE Big Bird as I assume there are trademark issues - you can get magazines for either green gas or CO2. The trigger is a bit smoother and and mine releases all the way at the end of the pull - but it's a decent analog and works with all the gear
  10. They also run fine in my Pro under standard conditions. But if the gun gets cold(under 40 F) or too dirty it'll occasionally(1 in 20) not fully cycle - so I definitely wouldn't want to try anything lighter. Not so much in my new VM. Though by the comments here I'm hopeful that the VM will run them after it's more broken in.
  11. I was cheap enough so I picked one up with another order. For the life of me I can't figure out what it's buffering as I can't feel a difference in having it in and not. Unlike the 1911 buffer which sits on the guide rod, this one sits in the frame(not anywhere on the slide) right above the trigger guard. Haven't had a chance to send anything downrange since install - so I'll take a look after a few hundred rounds. But as of right now it seems useless.
  12. I worked up a load with Berry's plated 115gr over 3.7 gr Clays(126PF@1100 FPS, another tenth will get you to 130PF) and was surprised on how light the recoil was. I compared it to an equivalent velocity 231 load and could tell the difference between the two.
  13. Wanted to say thanks for this as well. I went a slightly different route due to tool available, and I ended up purchasing 9mm followers instead of modifying the existing ones, but the end result was the same.
  14. Yeah, to get the co-witness the sights are very tall - so I figured anything that would work with that would give the FO lots of room. Since no-one asked, Uncle Mike's will not work with the CORE - sight channel is not tall enough.
  15. This one?? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/529990/safariland-568-custom-fit-belt-and-paddle-holster-right-hand-glock-17-22-20-21-38-hk-usp9-usp40-usp45-ruger-p-89-sig-sauer-220-226-composite-black I ordered the 5197-819-411 from http://www.holsters.com and it seems to work well(haven't used it in the wild yet) for my 5" CORE model. Also includes an extra mag caddy, for ~$30 shipped it's hard to beat but is belt slide. They do have models with Paddle attachments, just not on sale.
  16. Palmetto State has them on special today for $575: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/mossberg-jerry-miculek-pro-12ga-24-10-shot-85118.html?utm_source=Huge+Savings+on+Three+Great+Daily+Deals&utm_campaign=Constant+Contact&utm_medium=email
  17. Never had this issue, then took the gun apart and all of a sudden the same issue that is being described. When I reassembled I tightened the tube first, then the collar. What worked for me is to unscrew the collar, loosen the tube a little bit and then re-tighten the collar - back to no issues.
  18. Doesn't need to, you're only really concerned about pinching the area where the mag transitions between straight and tapered. The point idea is to try and lengthen the transition groove(from the link above):
  19. It doesn't look substantially different after they are fixed. Just put something(dowel, metal rod, etc) in the grooves that are towards the front of the mag and throw it in a vice. Work slow and progressively increase pressure until all of the rounds feed. You can start to tell the difference on a full mag as there will be a minimal gap between the 1st and 2nd round(reference my link earlier)
  20. Glad to hear it. In all fairness Jim Anglin of Sailors Custom Pistols provided me info on how to tweak the mags. I didn't try it until I ran across the link that documents what needs to be done really well.
  21. I've got 3 of the CDNN mags and none of them feed 9mm past ~12 rounds. Illustration of what Barry is taking about here: http://38super.net/Pages/Para%20Magazines.html Which shows that at least the ones I got are for 38 super. I have some nickel ones that came with my 9mm upper direct from Para and they are the same and have the same issue. . This week I have been tweeking them by taking a 9/64 drill bit in each of the front grooves and throwing them in a vice. Got one of them that will hand cycle all 21 rounds without getting hung up, another one gets hung up on round 19 but cycles the rest. I did contact Para about this and got a response from their web page: With a note that new magazines will be coming "soon" and to keep watching their page(paraproshop.com)
  22. Some popped up on Buds - 22" 9 shot for $599 - free shipping Not enough posts to link directly, put www in before: .budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/79799/Mossberg+930+12Ga.+JERRY+MICULEK+Model+9-SHOT
  23. 3rd on Federal. Never had a need to pay much attention using 1911's, but when I starting reloading for Revolvers it became important. You may not be reloading for Revo's now, but when it comes time you'll be glad you don't have to segregate your loads(not that I would know from personal experience).
  24. A couple of sources - I trust the former more than the latter due to methodology and sample size, but they paint a similar story. Apperently I'm still 'new' and can't post links, stick in a www before the items below. ballisticsbytheinch.com/45auto.html w0ipl.net/Vel-45ACP.htm
  25. Primer? Not super important, but I like to have it if I can.
