Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I tried that after a couple SF buddies told me about it. For me, it didn't make a bit of difference.
  2. I wear whatever I wear the rest of the week. Most of the time, that's some sort of hiker or trail runner, and they're usually made by The North Face because I get a ridiculous hook up on 'em. One of the young dudes that shoots with our club when he's around runs shorts, flip flops and an IWB holster, and a SIG most of the time. The gummint pays for most of his ammo and he's still very flexible, which means he does pretty well.
  3. There's an older gentleman at the local club that shoots his carry gun, a G26. He's been competing for a couple years with that gun-his carry gun-and with his carry holster, an IWB rig. He's about cut his times in half since he started. He's probably never going to win, but that's not why he's competing. He, like many in the club, uses the match as a test of skills to see if there's something that comes up that he can work on when he's practicing. There's nothing wrong with going to the limit of the rules to gain as much advantage as possible, but there's also nothing wrong with using your carry gun and carry gear. Just two different philosophies on competition.
  4. I think you'll need a ruling. The MnP is available from the factory in models with and without the sear block. The only way to tell from the outside is that those that were built without it say "Firearm capable of being fired without magazine in place" or words to that effect.
  5. what advantage is there to grip tape on the base pad? Seems a complicated way to number magazines that can be done with a paint pen.
  6. That's going to have to be defined to make any sense. On a hunting rifle or shotgun, the rubber butt pad is to help mitigate recoil. On a 5.56 AR, and probably most if not all other rifles in that class, the pad is to keep the butt of the stock from sliding around the shooter's shoulder. I also find it interesting that muzzle brakes are ruled against while most of the gunfighters I know that are allowed to change their muzzle device often go to one of a handful of brake designs unless their primary job is doing room entries. Brakes are NO FUN indoors and even less fun as the rooms get smaller. Still and all, I'm really quite pleased to see an acknowledgement of multi gun and shooter's desires to shoot it, and within the IDPA framework. It not only widens the appeal of IDPA, it shows that the leadership is interested in pushing it forward.

    RTF G34

The Gen 4 34/35 will be out this year, but the RTF2 guns are only available through MIL/LE dealers now. Glock took them off the civilian program because people complained about the aggressive grip eating their cover garments. I don't remember if the G34 or 35 were offered with this frame; I don't think so, but I'm far from certain about that.
  8. The Vickers release basically splits the difference in length between the Glock stock part and the release from the G34/35. I have the extended Glock release in my G17, and it was too long. I filed it back to about the length of the Vickers. As previously stated, it's ESP legal, but not SSP legal.
  9. I've installed about 20 sets of Warrens (between my guns and customer's guns) on Glocks and have never had to fit the rear sight. They have, on occasion, required a very light coat of oil or some extra leverage on the sight tool (I believe ours is the MGW) to get 'em in, but never anything more than some extra muscle and never any damage to the sights, the tool or the slide. According to our scientific calculations, the sight pusher is 483.342% easier to use than a punch and hammer. For one or two sets a year, it may not be worth getting the sight pusher, but for more than that (perhaps the local club has a lot of Glock owners as members) it would be. Most of the shops around here charge $25 to put the sights in. You can certainly offset the cost of the tool by charging a bit to put sights in. I've also found than a wee bit of oil on the "drive shaft" makes that tool work considerably better. If it's feeling crunchy, give it a touch of lube. It'll help tremendously.
  10. Add a 4) striker fired pistols have consistent triggers and they're generally easier to master than a DA/SA is. Beyond that, "better" is subjective. I find a Glock easier to run than any other gun I have, although I shoot my 1911 a little less poorly. In terms of shooting matches, shoot what ya got. It doesn't make a lot of sense to dump a lot of money into a new platform and support gear for it just to compete with right off the bat. Its your money to do with what you wish, but run what ya got for a while till ya get some experience.

    Procedural?

This situation is exactly why I changed the base plates on my MnP mags to the flat compact versions. With the stock pads on them, I pulled a reload and my trailing fingers hooked the base plate of the second mag in the pouch. It should have been a procedural penalty, and I had no idea it happened until the stage was finished, but the SO chose not to assess it. In the end, it didn't make a difference one way or the other in my score for that match, but it could at some point.
  12. Great trade! I've scored some deals, but not quite like that one. Good on ya, DR58! I've been running Sevigny Competitions with the FO front for a while now. I was planning to try both colors of FO, but I've misplaced my green. I recently bought 80 inches of the red FO, so I guess I'm stickin' with that for a while. Helpful hint: check your local modeling/hobby shops for .040" fiber optic rod. It'll prolly be considerably less than what is costs to get it through firearms-related sources.
  13. I'm confused as to what that means. Are they saying that a magnifier is not an optic, so a red dot sight and a magnifier is just one optic? Glad to see IDPA acknowledging that there are other guns than just pistols and revolvers. Three gun seems to be growing in leaps and bounds; it's good to see IDPA noticing that.
  14. Its not just contractors and Iraqi PoPo that are using the G19 operationally. Until the Gen 4 is proven a winner to the level of the Gen 3, I don't really want one. I'd REALLY like to see the RTF2 frame on the 34/35, but I doubt that'll happen, now that Glock has stopped offering them to the civilian market. They're still available to MIL/LE.
