  1. So I am running a 300+ shooter match with 4 stages of rifle and I want to have 8 of these targets per stage. That means I have to make at least 9,600 pf these out of 19,200 clay birds, store and transport them to the match without any breakage... Seems unrealistic.
  2. So I wanted to take up Jesse's challenge and put some noodle to this. Would it be possible to run 150 shooters (2011 FB3G size) through a LR rifle stage in one day. If you assume a 180 second par time with 30 seconds on either side to make ready/clear each shooter, 150 shooters takes 10 hours. You double that for a match like the TX multigun (300) shooters, and you are up to 20 hours. That assumes every shooter is on time, every shooter is ready, gun in hand when it is their turn to shoot. You would need to have 3.5+ times the RO staff so you could have rotating ROs by shooter. For example, RO1 would follow ShooterA, once finished RO2 would start ShooterB while RO1 cleared and scored ShooterA. RO1 would then prep ShooterC and so on... Even with the extra staff, the toll on the ROs would be significant. Reducing the Par time to 120 seconds only saves you a couple hours making it barely doable. Another option might be to only run the long range stage from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This would provide a 5 hour window of relatively consistent lighting, eliminate most early fog and possibly provide a bit more consistency in weather conditions. You would still not get all shooters through the stage in single day, thus introducing weather back into the mix. You would also need to probably run it as an all steel stage since you cannot afford any scoring/taping time. How you accomplish this would require a level of precision not typically seen in major matches. All stages would need to run at or ahead of schedule. You would probably need to set and enforce strict penalties for not being on time for a stage or your turn to shoot. Given a squad would have a narrow window to shoot the LR stage, there might even be an automatic Stage DQ if the shooter is not ready within 30 seconds of their start time. If we don't want to go this draconian, we could also agree in advance under what conditions the stage would be thrown out. So if there were high enough winds on a particular day, the stage is gone. The match director could set forth certain criteria for particular stages or circumstances that when met eliminate the stage from the scores. Shooters would still have the option to run the stage, but not for score. If memory serves, we experienced the extreme version of this at Blue Ridge where the entire match was halted. Now there was an interesting comment made earlier about an open shooter specifically squading with the other top shooters in his division to minimize variables throughout the match. Match staff could take this a step further and enforce/offer flighted squading. This would create squading based on past performance. Taken to the logical conclusion we could find ourselves shooting classifiers, which was discussed at length after RM3G two years ago (not favorably). If it was made voluntary, then the match staff has the issue of determining how to build these divisional super squads. How do you pick who makes the cut and does not? You also have to gauge the impact to the sport by not enabling the Tac Ops shooter to see how irons or open can be run by a top shooter, or never allowing a new shooter to get the experience and knowledge by following Daniel Horner for an entire match. Thoughts?
  3. This is an interesting discussion. Granted, I am only starting to crack the top 40% on my best day, but I am not bothered by the weather. It falls under the category of things I cannot control. From a Match Administration/Stage Design/Rules perspective, weather cannot be controlled. Thinking about the ranges which host many of the major matches, there typically isn't space to have three worthwhile long-range stages. My understanding of the increase penalty for LR targets was to prevent competitors from just skipping those targets and taking the penalty. As has been pointed out above, the things we can control are: Target Size Contrasting Target Backing Target Placement to Minimize Lighting/Shadow Issues Painting Targets at Regular Intervals To my knowledge, none of these are covered in the IMGA rules. Even if they were, since most of the matches we all attend are 'Outlaw' matches there may never be consistent application. Even if these were agreed to for all matches, there are escalating implications to the match staff requirements and expense. Maybe we need to address the 800lb gorilla in the corner...is this still an issue at a "club-level" match when there isn't a prize table. If this is all driven by the impact to finish higher and to pick prizes of higher value earlier, then maybe we should rethink the prize table concept.
  4. http://fb3gun.com/Scores.html Thanks to Jim, Sheldon, Sandra and all the ROs/staff who made this match possible! Despite the conditions, everything was smooth and a blast to shoot. Cannot wait for next year.
  5. Time to pull together the Christmas list and wanted to see if there what 3Gun gear people were looking to get...
  6. Wish I could be there cause this sounds like a great match. Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!

  8. Cheers Bro! The Spring match isn't good for my work schedule but we will see how it pans out. We'd love to have you guys join us for some of our clubs 3 gun matches here in OKC. It's only a 3 hour drive. Here is the link to our clubs web site. OKC Gun Club Website I will start posting the match dates on dfwshooters.org forum and on this forum as well. Here are some videos of the past matches we shot. OKC Gun Club 3 Gun May 2010 OKC Gun Club 3 Gun January 2010 OKC Gun Club 3 Gun October 2009 Pretty good matches with lots of shooting and we have a 300 yard long range bay now. For $20 the are tough to beat and a great place to test your gear because we shoot a lot of rounds in our 5-6 stages. We have also been doing some 150+ round action rifle matches lately too. Lots of fun! OKC Gun Club Action Rifle Match +1 on the OKC matches. I have shot with up there a couple times and it is well worth the trip from N. Texas!
  9. Jason - The link is bad... I was able to get the others from JThompson. However, 2009 Classifiers no Shots failed to extract.
  10. Let's keep it simple and go with what is already working. 3 Gunners will be classified once a year at the RM3G competition. There will be two classifications available: Expert or Not. Expert classification will be awarded to those finishing in the top 25% of their division. Expert classification will be personally awarded by John Paul of JP Precision Rifles. Classification will be good for one year in which recipient will know they have accomplished something special, and that 75% of the 3 Gun community has them in their sights! Benefits of Expert classification include answering questions about gear, stage breakdown and working with new shooters. Special attention should be paid to Juniors to ensure the future of the sport. A special Grand Master designation is available to those earning master classification for 5 continuous years. In addition to all the benefits of the master classification, Grand Masters are responsible for completing one of the following tasks annually: 1. Host/MD/RM/Start a major match 2. Host/MD/RM/Start a junior 3 Gun camp 3. Host/MD/RM/Start a local 3 Gun clinic Failure to complete any of the above will cause the loss of the Grand Master classification.
  11. I have a Benelli M1S90 I am very happy with. It has the Dave's Metal Works bolt release and extension tube. Definitely go with a ribbed field model. Briley extended chokes in Light Modified seem to be popular although I still shoot IC. I have made three additional modifications to mine: 1. I used a file and sand paper to open up the loading area. Do a search and you can photos showing what to do. You can also send it out to have it done. 2. I did have Benny Hill at Triangle lighten my bolt 3. I also had him modify the bolt to permit the carrier load. I have only had one issue with my shotgun (Knock on wood, loudly) which was a low primer on a Federal slug. Hence an ammo problem and not the gun. What ever you decide to get, make sure to buy 8+ dummy rounds and start practicing your loading. If you don't know better, start learning to load weak handed. Get some shell caddies (I prefer Mountain Man Engineering 4 Shell caddies) and practice. There are some great videos done by the AMU and I think the Noveske team did some as well. Again quick search should find them. Feel free to ask any other questions!

    226 holster

I mainly use the 5.11/Bladetech holster, but I also have a raven phantom for when running my x300. Either one is a great holster.
  13. Thoughts and prayers to you and her family.
  14. Looks like the links are bad again. Anyone have them archived?
  15. St John, USVI. No shooting, not sure about the fishing but a great vacation place. House rentals can be cheaper that time of year...
  16. Big fan of the Mountain Man Engineering caddies. Indestructible. I run different colors for slug/buck and bird.
  17. If you are open to an alternate, the DMW version works great for me: http://www.davesmetalworks.com/ben12.htm. The curved handle makes it easy for me to charge the shotgun from underneath.
  18. Welcome to the forum! PM me and I can give you the lowdown on some of the local shooting related to 3gun. Unfortunately it is hard to get all three guns in one match without a drive...

    Sig 226 Grip Angle

Definitely not like a glock. I have the same problem with the occasional pick up glock...
  20. This may be a starting point for what you are describing: http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=456 Since it is designed for crew served weapons, I am sure it can taken the abuse of a pistol. It would need to be downsized to fit in the grips of a pistol and some advancements to the timing... If you could add GPS as well as the accelerometer, you would have almost a black box for the pistol. Imagine being to download and replay a COF for analysis. Better yet, it could be an investigative tool for law enforcement..
